Paul of Salinas bought a 1998 Pontiac GrandAm.  He writes:

Have had problems from day one with vehicle. Day we took it home, had to return following day because there was no oil in engine. engine oil lamp was lit and dip stick showed none.

From April of 1998 to July 1998 had vehicle in service department several times for a/c not cooling. Was of course told several times "cannot duplicate". They replaced hoses, switches, and the compressor by the time they were done in July.

What made the situation worse was that they gave us the runaround, would tell us it's ok and then check it with the thermometor and have it read 91 degrees.

Now on to our latest problem. Brought car in for rubbing noise in steering column. We are now still in our rental one week later and have experienced the following: When they examined the vehicle, they found damage and contacted the factory because the dealer had never seen this problem before.

The facotry told them that it was unsafe to drive and told them how to fix. They since replaced bushings, seals, steering gear two times because they broke off the studs when replacing and found metal in the fluid when draining.

When we test drove the vehicle today, my husband noticed a severe pull to the right which we did not have before. He told the service writer that he wanted the vehicle aligned before we picked it up. The service writer called later and said we needed a caster adjustment but that GM does not give them specs to do this so therefore this is the way the car is and we have to accept this.

We did not! They still have the vehicle and we told them that they need to come up with a conclusion to correcting this.

There is something called the Lemon Law which would seem to apply in this case.  The writer should call the local Bar Association and ask for a referral to an attorney who specialies in Lemon Law cases.
