Michael of San Francisco CA (12/28/07)
My 2000 BMW 323i lost reverse. It will not engage and acts like it is in neutral. Everything else on the car works fine. I am very concerned about what repairs are ahead on this. BMW US should recall these cars and fix the problem.

2001 X5, purchased extended warranty to 100K never used it. AT 104K on Christmas Day whole transmission blows driving in the backwoods between Dallas Tx and Texarkana Ark. 3.50/mile to be towed to nearest BMW dealer in Little Rock, Ark (162miles) you do the math!!!.Little Rock was very nice but Transmission Replaced, cost was probably 1/2-1/3 value of vehicle at that point.

My 2000 bmw 323i reverse stopped working all of sudden. I needed to take it in to the mechanic to find out that this is a specific problem with 2000 323i bmw transmissions. I think this is wrong and there should be legal action taken against bmw for denying problematic issues with its vehicles.

Same problem as Mark in Tulsa. My 2002 BMW X5 suddenly went into transmission failsafe program. 84,000 miles on it right now. Dealership said it is cheaper to replace the entire transmission rather than try and diagnose the issue. Only 5-6000. Still in the early stages of doing research. What a beautiful Christmas gift.

Yolanda of Montgomery AL (12/25/07)
Reporting the failure of the transmission on my 2006 325i. My car had only 56,000 miles when the transmision began failing. The dealership stated that the transmission needed to be replaced and would cost me 8,500. I could not understand at first why a car with relatively low mileage and only 2 years old would need a new transmission, until I got on the computer and did some research. I did not know there were so many people having trouble with this. When I tried to approach the managers at the dealership of BMW of Montgomery, they basically told me that it was my responsibilty because the car was no longer under warranty. The dealership failed to tell me that these cars have so many problems with the transmissions. Something should be done to correct this problem during the manufactoring phase. Consumers that have had to pay out thousands of dollars for transmissions that are apparently faulty on BMW cars should also be compensated.
