We were lied to by a salesman at Gaplin Ford, who told us that a used 1999 Explorer used is worth $23,000 and that he was giving it to us for $19,000. When he said this, we decided to buy two. Seven weeks later we found out that they are only worth $13,000. They tried to sell me the wrong truck by putting the wrong VIN number on the contract. When I noticed the number was incorrect, they changed it and tried to sell me the correct truck at a higher price. After complaining to the manager, he agreed to give it to us for $19,000. Since I've had my truck, it has had to be repaired six times. It has only been a couple of months. When I brought it in for service the fifth time, I believe that a man at the dealer (we'll call him "Bob")discriminated against me because of my gender.
He tried to tell me I didn't know what kind of warranty I had and that I didn't need to bring in the truck even though it was stalling on me. He denied me service so I left and called to speak to a manager. After massive complaining and yelling they agreed to take my truck for service. They supplied me with a rental car that I kept for two days. They called me to pick up the truck saying it was repaired. I went to get it only to find that it had been driven eight miles, and it was not repaired. I had to return it 15 minutes after picking it up. "Bob" told me I didn't have a problem with the truck and I had to show him what was wrong with it. I started it up and it cut off and finally he agreed to take the truck again to actually fix it this time. I had to demand a manager to compensate me for the $14 I had to pay for the rental car. They supplied me with another rental and took an entire week to fix the truck after recalling faulty ignitions. On top of this there are all these miscellaneous charges they threw in the contract saying they were mandatory but not telling us what they were for.
The car constantly stalled on me and my seven-month-old daughter; I was frightened to go anywhere due to fear that we'd get stuck somewhere. I was in two near accidents due to the car stalling at red lights. I was stressed and crying everyday. And when I attempted to speak to the saleman about his lie of what the car was worth he replied, "I dont care what the car is worth." After complaining about them trying to sale me a car with the wrong Vin number, they gave us two free dinners at the Galpin Restaurant for compensation. I had to take an extra amount of time from work to pick up and deliver the truck, losing money because I'm paid hourly. I'm now terrified to even drive the truck fearing it will cut off with my daughter inside.
