Michelle of Yuba City, CA, writes:

Well I bought a 2001 Kia Rio in October 2000. One week after buying my car my air bag light came on while I was on a road trip. When I got back I called it into the service department and they told me I could only bring it in if the light was on. Well, needless to say the lights came on and off so I never brought it in. Then I got into a accident and was rearended and then pushed into another vehicle and my air bags never deployed. When my car was towed and taken to the service station they told me I wasn't moving therefore my bags didn't deploy. But the guy hit me going 55 mph. So I expected that my bags would go off but they didn't.

After my car was in the shop for 12 weeks being repaired they had some test done and figured out that, indeed, something was wrong with my airbags but they weren't sure if they should have deployed or not because I wasn't moving at the time of the accident. When I got my car back the very next day my engine light and over drive light came on and I again called my service department and they told me a week later was the earliest they could look at my car. I therefore told them to make an appointment for a week from that date. Two days after making my appointment the lights went off and I called again to the service department and they told me never mind since the lights weren't on then maybe it was just settling from the accident. Now three and a half months after getting my car back from the accident, I started driving home and pulled into a parking lot. My car came to a sudden halt and I started rolling backwards. I then had to push my car into a parking space and call a tow truck. If I hadn't gone to a friends house after work that day I probably would have been in a accident. Usually at that time I would be traveling on the freeway or a bridge. So needless to say I am very afraid to drive my car. I have only had my car for 10 months and I only want the company to give me my money back and take their crappy, unreliable car back!!

So much has happened because of this:

1. I have been completly stressed out because this car is my only vehicle and I can't rely on it.

2. I am completely disappointed in my NEW vehicle which I bought so I wouldn't have to worry about repairing it all the time.

3. I am afraid to drive it because it is no longer safe. I can't depend on it not stopping in the middle of the freeway or bridge; my air bags are worthless so I am scared that if I were to get into another accident that they wouldn't save my life like they should.

4. I have missed work because I had no vehicle or I had to speak to the mechanics in person to figure out what was wrong with my vehicle.

5. It cost me a lot of money to keep renting cars because I can't depend on the one I just bought.
