| D&D Auto Service, The Bronx, NY | |
| K.V. of Brooklyn
writes: My car broke down in the middle of the Bruckner expressway. The car began decelerating when I was pressing the gas pedal. AAA does not tow from highways so they sent the local service to tow me to the nearest auto service station. This is how i came into contact with D&D Auto service. I am not from the Bronx and I know nothing about them. I could not afford to have car towed at my expense back to Brooklyn. The company said that my fuel pump malfunctioned as a result of electrical short. They said they would replace the pump for $220 and $150 for labor. They said that they would give me a new pump with a warranty. I told them that the price was outrageous. I could not pay it. They took off $50 and when they called me at work an hour later to say that it was fixed, I paid on credit card because I had no other choice. Two days later the car broke down in the same manner on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway while I had two children in the car. Fortunately, I was much closer to my house. AAA sent another local towing service to take me to the nearest station. On January 9th, my 13 and 10 year old siblings and I were out in the freezing cold for over an hour trying to get a passerby to stop and help and waiting for a tow. The next day the Mobil service station told me that it was the fuel pump. A cheap one was put in that was obviously incompatible with my car. They gave me the number for the Nissan dealer to check, but told me that the price for the new pump, fuel filter and another part altogther would be $192.84. They said that the labor would cost $95. Clearly, I had been cheated by the service station in the Bronx. Even if they had installed a bad pump unintentionally, I feel that they are responsible for jeopardizing my safety and that of the two children in the car. The car ceased functioning in the middle of a busy highway without any warning. I called D&D to ask for a refund. they said that I should have brought the car to them to replace the pump. I explained that I am 16 miles away and could not afford towing to their location. The consequence is that I must pay another service station $311.84 for the needed repairs. The children were scared and so was I. Our lives were put in danger by the service station's negligence. Moreover, I have lost another day of work--$80. I am terrified to drive because My nerves are shot. This is really too much to bear two times in one week. |
