Derek of Daphne AL (08/23/08) purchased used yamaha 40 hp 4 stroke outboard motor on ebay for 1575. Item described as very very nice, well cared for, runs well, etc. Paid for shipping 600, controls 400, and so far repairs 350 and prop 150. Item paid for immediately, item not shipped for two weeks and that was only after begging them to ship it.
AJ spoke to me on the phone up until the time he took my payment then he would hang up on me when I would call to ask if the motor was shipped yet. Motor turned out to be 1999 not 2000 as described. Motor was packed so poorly there were huge gashes in motor where it banged up against the shiping container, actually bent the shipping container. No prop and worst of all the motor was DOA.
AJ has no work ethic and no accountability at all. Finally got in touch with AJ a week after motor received and he said that I should be happy with what I got and that I got a 5,000 motor for 1575. I priced them and I could have gotten that same motor new with 3 year warranty, mounted on my boat for 5300. AJ is in another world and his business should not be patronized. Motor still not running correctly, at shop trying something else. Seller would not refund money or pay to ship item back even though grossly misrepresented. Eddy of Somerville, MA August 17, 2008
Eddy of Somerville, MA (08/17/08) I recently went on Craigs list 8/8/08 and their was a 2000 Honda Accord for sale. They were offering 2900 but I was able to negotiate the price to 2500. They said that thru eBay Motors purchase, I would be contacted by email and instructions on how to send the money & the car would get sent to me.Well, I wired the 2900 to a Aaron Smith which was the total cost because of shipping thru Money Gram and faxed the information so that ebay could have the ref # and be able to give the seller the money once I received the car.
They made it all seem real, I even though I was getting an email from eBay.I began to suspect something after I began telling my friends & than I knew I was scamed & out 3000. I don't know if I'll ever get the money back.I feel so stupid & like an idiot,I fell right into their trap!!But so far I have made a complaint to the local police & to the FBI, & Money Gram.
I hope this experience can help others not make the same mistake. I hope that some how I can help catch these criminals. I recently went on Craigs list and saw the same email adress trying to sell another car. I also responded to another person selling a car & it seems to be the same scam. They are selling a car, they make it sound like such a good deal, but begin to tell you a sad story why they need to sell the car. They use the same word likethe car is in good condition, I don't want to sell it but I'm in need of the money, & that eBay will handle the entire purchase & all I need to do is wire the money.
Well this is my story I hope someone out there can learn from my mistake & hope someone can help me recooperate the money I lost. Paula of Carmel, NY July 20, 2008
Paula of Carmel NY (07/20/08) My son bought a motorcycle from Ebay. He was emailed from Ebay to Moneygram wire the funds to an Ebay agent Edward in Houston Texas. The day after the funds were wired he was contacted by Mr M stating the an additional 1000.00 (above the 3600.00 he had wired to him) was required for the time that my son was to inspect the bike. If he did not want the bike all of the funds would be returned.
My son called Ebay and was told this was a scam. The bike was no longer listed on the site. Unfortunately, we do not have the item number that was listed with the bike. We have all the Ebay emails and the emails from the seller and this agent. I called Moneygram and spoke to a wonderful woman who told me the money was not in Texas but was picked up in Ozone Park, NY.
I have tried at least a dozen times to contact Ebay. They are like a bunch of trained clowns. When asking to speak to a supervisor, they will call back, they are on the other line, they were just about to call you etc. Finally (this happened on Monday, July 14) friday at 8:45pm a supervisor (?) Keri returned my call, after five minutes or so the call was dropped. When I called back I was told she was on the phone and I was put on hold long enough for a recording that said they were too busy to answer the call and leave a message. All of the reps are saying they can not go back in the system to give me the item number.
If I did have that number, Ebay would be responsible for returning my son's money. I have contacted the FBI and was told it was not enough money for them to get involved. The police dept in my son's town said the detective was on vacation until Monday July 21. and they didn't thing it too likely he would see the money. How can Ebay post an item for sale, have it turn into something like this and just disregard it? How many other people has this happened to? Isn't this a federal offense? Can you please help us with this problem? My son is devasted by this and it is breaking my heart. What ever you can do or suggest that I do would be greatly appreciated.
My son at 19 years old has lost his savings of 3600.00 and quite frankly is in a deep depression over this. These freaks have all his information, home address, phone number, email. This whole situation scares me to death. Thomas of Wrentham, MA July 8, 2008
Thomas of Wrentham MA (07/08/08) I put an offer on a Ford backhoe in early March 08 but was not the highest bidder so I didn't win the bid...at the end of March e-bay e-mailed me that I had a second chance offer because the winnig bidder couldn't complete the deal I checked the e-bay web-site and it was also in my messages in e-bay soon after I got another e-mail from e-bay stating that the seller didn't have pay-pal and to pay via money-gram the seller also e-mailed me the same information
I was told in an e-mail from e-bay that because the seller couldn't use pay-pal that the transaction was secured and that e-bay was holding 20,000 in an account for the purpose of buyer protection. The e-mails came fast and furious over the weekend of March 30th (I have all the e-mails)and payment was made April 2nd for 4600.00 plus the fee to send the Money I have all the reciepts with dates
the seller discontinued contact with me after the Money was recieved I e-mailed e-bay a few times with no reply requesting my money back through the buyer protection plan and they never contacted me I got there on line costomer service and was told That someone would contact me but that never happened finally I got a-hold of someone from e-bay and was told that because I acted outside of e-bay that nothing could be done, after much debate with the customer service rep I finally hung up, as far as I knew I was acting inside of e-bay
I reported all of this to my local police so there is a record plus I have all the e-mails printed and copies of all the transactions In my opinion e-bay should take responsibility to protect it's e-mails from hackers they are a multi-million dollar company who just doesn't care who it burns an the way to the top
I am out a little less than 4800.00 which for me is alot and a hole lot of stress it's my first and last time using e-bay Don of Winnipeg,Manitoba, OTHER June 21, 2008
Don of Winnipeg,Manitoba OTHER (06/21/08) The seller started the transaction over the e-Bay Vehicle Purchase Program. The seller require the payment to be done through Western Union money tranfer service. e-Bay contacted me and I followed there instructions. I sent 2600.00 plus 60.00 servive fees. I am willing to pay the balance of 2600.00 but I haven't seen the truck I'm buying.
For the last week I'm trying to contact the seller and eBAY BUT i'M not getting any returns on my e-mail. At the monent,I don't have the truck I'm willing to purchase and my 2660.00 e-Bay assured me this isn't a fraud, I believed them. Can anyone help me settle this matter.
