Firestone will for many years be known for its role in the infamous Ford Explorer/Firestone recall. While the recall has ended, consumers continue to experience tread separation problems with other Firestone tires, as the complaints in this section demonstrate. There's a completely different set of problems with Firestone Service Centers.
Virginia of Fort Lauderdale, FL January 28, 2009
Virginia of Fort Lauderdale FL (01/28/09) I have purchased six tires in the last year from firestone all of them went bald not once was I given replacement tires I had to pay for them to be replaced I have been a customer with firestone for years from brakes, life time Alignment, tires, tires and tires my vehicle was at firestone for oil change and to recheck front and back alignment in which I was told the alignment was fine every visit I'm being to the alignment is ok but the back tires are bald I'm faceing the same problem both of the back tires are slick like the palm of my hand I don't have money to continue paying for tires and they don't last six months. This is not the only location that recharged me for replacing the tires (Firestone on Commercial Blvd east of University Drive Fort Lauderdale Florida, this location did give me a discount on one replacement tire but I feel I should not have been charged the tires was not on the vehicle a good three months at any time.
I was a Approached by law inforcement but received a verbal warning I am not Financially able to buy another set of tires (The death of my mom and not having insurance for her has drained my bank account. Levern of Columbia, SC January 20, 2009
Levern of Columbia SC (01/20/09) the tire thread came off a tire while we was driving down I-20 and caused 3500 worth of damage to our 97 trooper.I took the truck and the tire to the nearest firestone.told the manager the ins. co. totaled out our truck.and hesaid the tire was three years old due to the code on the tire,I said i need them to fix my truck they said know, so what can i do now
2weeks worth of rental car out our pocket, and 3500 worth of damage to our truck caused by a defective tire Keisha of Hapeville, GA December 3, 2008
Keisha of Hapeville GA (12/03/08) I was driving my family back home from Thanksgiving vacation with family in Florida when it began to rain. I noticed that the car began slipping on the road so I moved into the slower right hand lane. I was driving only 55-60mpr when I hydroplaned, fishtailed all over the road, until we spun around and crashed into the guardrail. I then quickly reversed the car and turned around into the emergency land to avoid being hit by oncoming traffic. I drove to the gas station at the next stop awaiting the police.
While we were filing the report with the police, the officer noticed that the car tires were bald. We informed him that we had purchased the tires only 6 months ago and we checked them before we left Georgia. He said that was no way we purchsed those 6 months ago. We informed him that we checked the tires, filled them with the proper air pressure, got an oil change and maintenance on the car before we left town. He wrote me a ticket for the tires stating that this cause the accident and that he would tow us unless we stayed overnight in a hotel and purchased new tires in the morning. We stayed overnight and purchased new tires in the morning.
The tire mechanic was shocked when he saw the tires. After arriving home, I checked the warranty on the tires. We had purchased these tires in June of 2008. We had the brakes and alignment done after these new tires were put on. It says 50,000 mile warranty on the tires and we only used 10,000mls on those tires before they went bald. My beau and I both checked the tires before we left home and the tread was still good.
Due to the crash, the front of my car is damaged, especially the right front side. The hood of the car is damaged and the antanae was torn off the top of the car somehow during the incident. We had to use additional monies to stay in a hotel overnight, food and had to purchase new tires to get home. Luckily we were not physically hurt and did not crash into other cars. Thank goodness the guardrail was there or we would have spun off and flipped into the ditch. I personally am suffering from anxiety right now and am a little paranoid to drive. I just paid off my car a week prior and have had no accidents in my driving history. This accident will not only make my insurance premiums higher, but will diminish the value of my car which is only 3 years old with low milage and looks brand new. I believe this accident was due to the tires that were only 6 months old and pre-maturely worn tread. If I had known that these new tires were worn from so little useage, I would have never driven them in that state. My family could have been killed because of those cheaply made tires. Darin of Colorado Springs, CO September 20, 2008
Darin of Colorado Springs CO (09/20/08) On 09/19/2008 I took my vehicle in to have my tires replaced. My appt was at 12:30 pm and I admit I was 8 minutes late. I informed the owner/manager that I needed to have my veh back by 3pm so I could get to work at 4. I was not contacted until 3:30 pm and they were just talking about my alignment information. I spend over a thousand dollars with these people and told the person who called me the day before and the manager when I needed my vehicle back.
I ended up having to call in late for work which caused me to have to use my vacation time and may lead to disciplinary action as I have had attendance issues in the past. The tires look good and the service was satisfactory outside of this. What made me mad is when I told the person that he has made me late for work and what he was going to do about it he just chuckled and then charged me the thousand dollars for the tires. When I purchase tires again I will go elsewhere!
Late for work, loss of vacation time, possible disciplinary action. Waste of my time which is my most valued asset. Charlene of Deland, FL September 16, 2008
Charlene of Deland FL (09/16/08) while traveling on I95 north through North Casrolina on JUly 4th weekend 2008 in My 1997 Georgie Boy Motorhome, I had a blowout of a Firestone 16 inch tire. It blew out right at the Name Firestone and the tread wrapped around the axel, tore up the side of the Motorhome and left me on the side of the road. I soon found that ALL of my tires, while still having very deep tread on them were Seperating. Being Dumb on this issue, I never thought about checking my Motorhome tires. They all are gong to be replaced (At my cost no doubt) with GOodyear 16 tires. Please everyone, check your tires on your Motorhomes. If it had been a front tire aI may not be here reporting to you all. It appears that it's not just Ford Explorers that are in danger. Charlene In Florida
