Susan of Wilmington DE (02/14/09) All I wanted was a quick oil change. No one was in the store when I walked in. After an hour, I voiced a complaint, then they told me that I had a serious safety issue I had a a crack in my tie rod ends. I did not ask for a safety check--but I received a list of items that had to be repaired--totaled 869.44! They charged not for one, but two and the district manager said that it was a computer error and they would have fixed it before I left. Make a long story short I went straight to my mechanic of 30 years and I did not need all that was recommended. What I did get was a nail in my tire in the side. So this tire store looked at everything but my tires? Imagine that! Folks don't go there, you will be used!
I didn't get my repairs there, I saved a whole lot of money, but I did get a nail in my tire. Make sure you question why they are charging for 2 items, when only one is faulty. Peggy of Rochester, NY February 12, 2009
Peggy of Rochester NY (02/12/09) I asked my husband to take my '04 Malibu in for an oil change and to get a yearly inspection sticker. The oil change was done, but they asked my husband to come in the back and look at the car. They stated that the struts were worn on the car and before they could issue the sticker for the inspection, he would need to get new struts and an alignment. They gave my husband an estimate of 582 and said they could put two people on the job and get him out of there in about two hours.
My husband tried to reach me at work. I was away from my desk and he informed them that he could not get ahold of me. Then the serviceman stated that he would issue the inspection sticker, but that we really needed to get the struts fixed. The next day my husband took my Malibu to a GM dealer and asked them to look at the car and, specifically, the struts. They looked and they found the struts to be fine. They only stated that the bearings might need to be replaced in the future, but no need at this time.
If we would of taken Firestone's word and spent the unnecessary money to purchase new struts, we would of spent money on something that didn't need to be repaired. Apparently, Firestone has quite the reputation for finding additional work that the vehicle needs. Very rarely can you get a basic oil change and come out of there with no additional charges. I will never go back to Firestone for anything again. I have learned my lesson. Sean of North Babylon, NY February 9, 2009
Sean of North Babylon NY (02/09/09) I bought a used Min Cooper S from a friend with 2 sets of rims. After hitting a bad pothole I noticed a bend in one of my rims So I decided to swap out the rims with the second set of rims that came with the car. On the second set of rims there was 2 tires mounted and the other 2 rims were bare. I made it perfectly clear that I wanted all 4 tires that were already on the car on the new rims. The 2 old tires on the spare set removed and kept as spare tires.
After getting the car back from Firestone I noticed a shaking in the car that was never there before. I insepcted the tores and right away noticed that my inflation valve caps were missing. I brought the car to another mechanic and he called me into the shop to point out a few things. 1) the centering caps that came with the rims weren't used so the wheels coulnt have been perfectly centered. 2) the tires werent balanced. 3) there was an obious bend in the rim that they should have noticed but didnt tell me about. 4) they only swapped out 2 tires and I am driving with 2 new tires on the left side and 2 old worn down tires on the right side. This means that they did only half the job they agreed to do. lost my valve caps, probably threw away my centering rings, and didnt bother to balance the tires. I paid about 100 and they didnt do the job I paid them to do. Mary of Grapevine, TX December 21, 2008
Mary of Grapevine TX (12/21/08) At Firestone I asked to have a simple tire balance and rotation performed or so I thought. After the work was done and driving out of the parking lot my car pulled severely to the left, and as soon as I got on the freeway I noticed that a severe shaking happened at 40-50 mph and to top it off when I pulled off the highway to check out what might be wrong...my brakes caused my steering wheel to shake even more violently. How can this happen from a tire balance and rotation???
This was the question I asked when I called Firestone to ask why my car was acting this way? They replied that the guy that wrote up the job was gone for lunch and that I should ask him when he got back which should be two to three hours. Because I had an appointment downtown I explained that I could not wait that long and asked if my car was safe to drive and he said I don't know lady...call your husband or boyfriend and ask them
Well, I hung up the phone counted to 10, canceled my appointment and took my car to Discount Tire. They were so nice, looked at my car immediately and told me that my front left tire was 20 lbs low on air was missing any and all balance weights and that someone had just put grease on the front rotors which was causing the car to severely shudder under braking and that if they had not noticed it when they did, it would cause my rotors to be warped. I'm not pointing fingers - oh who am I kidding, yes I am - I think Firestone did this on purpose trying to get a single female to pay, pay, pay.
40.00 to Firestone for a lifetime balance and rotation. And, 60.00 to Discount Tire. Tallie of Columbus, OH December 6, 2008
Tallie of Columbus OH (12/06/08) The service was excellent, as was the service advisor who worked with me. But I noticed that while I waited for my service to be completed, several women came in as customers and your waiting area has nothing geared to women. I recommend that you re-think your waiting room enviornment. Women spend a lot of time and money dealing with car problems, and having something special waiting for them would probably increase your business - recommendations. One suggestion, have a drawing for a free spa visit. Maybe have magazines that women like to read, which includes Time and Newsweek, not just People. Thank you for listening, and I hope you'll think about these recommendations. Mary of Westfield, MA December 1, 2008
