The Focus is a nice-looking little car. And it replaced the truly execrable Escort. There, we said something good about it. Unfortunately, for way too many owners, that about exhausts the list of compliments. The Focus has so far set a record for safety recalls (would you believe 10?) and it may just be getting started.

It's unfortunate for everyone when an economy car has this many problems. It's especially rough on the poor customers, who presumably are on tight budgets and unable to pour time and money into keeping their supposed economy car running.

Here are a few of the more recent complaints:

Roy of Pigeon Forge TN (04/11/06)
It seems the Ford Focus (2003) has had many problems with the ignition seizing up and having to pay to have it replaced. Our service manager at McNelly-Whaley Ford(Dolly Parton Pkwy.) has said there have been any customers with the same problem.

I would like to know how many customers all over the U.S. have had this problem and why Ford did not do a recall and replace these parts on a recall instead of having the customer pay for the repairs.

This is totally unfair and I will pursue this further if necessary. I was very pleased with the total car package and all my dealerships since we bought the car but this is just ridiculous and we will not buy another Ford car due to the unsatisfactory dealings with the Ford Company and the dealer.

Ignition switch lock-up for the second time. Dealership wanted 655 to fix the first time plus 127 to make a new key. Ford tells me they have had no complaints for this problem.

I bought a brand new 2003 Ford Focus ZTS 3 years ago. Within the first year my auto trunk lock jammed and malfunctions all the time. By the second year my alternator went out and had to be replaced. In my recent third year I'm seeping fluid in the rear cylinders, needing front rotors and pads, rear shoes and springs. I do all the regular maintenance as needed and I only have 41,000 miles on the car. The car exterior and interior are immaculate.

Amy of Bolingbrook IL (03/22/06)
My 2000 Ford Focus had an ignition issue last night. After work, while I was ready to go home, my car key would not start. I called the Ford company in Elmhurst where I normally bring in for services and they ask me to apply WD40 and try it but did not work. This morning, I had my car towed and also a new key cylinder is changed. Apart from that, my husband did a research on line and found that I am not the first person to have this issue. There are alot of unhappy people with this issue on Ford Focus. Infact, the state of California has the cars recalled. Worst of all, even the guy who was towing my car to the nearest FORD Dealer told me that he has towed more than a dozen Ford Focus cars with the same issue. I hope that FORD will look into this issue and come up with a solution.

Ignition has gone out two times on a 2001 Ford Focus SE Wagon that only has 74,635 miles on it.

Ford stands for, F ound O n R oad D ead!!!

I will never buy another one!
