'99 Ford F-150 purchased new. At 66,000 miles one cylinder head had a hole explode thru a spark plug opening. Ford Customer Service (a horrible joke)told me it was out of warranty - too bad. I contacted the then CEO's Office of Bill Ford and told them to fix it at no cost or my buddy the LA TV anchor would have their consumer complaint guy do a story. They paid for the 2000 job at Villa Ford in Orange, CA. This was a manufacturing defect customer service had lied about to me. The technician who did the work said that it was fair ly common.

Russell of Middleville MI (10/17/07)
I purchased a used 1999 Ford Expedition with a 5.4 liter motor. Purchased at 80,000 miles and now has 115,000. I have now had two spark plugs blow out. I was able to tab the first one and its still holding the plug. The first time the plug backed out to the last few threads then blew. I assumed that who ever installed them just didn't torque this one down. The second involved a helicoil with a cost of about 600. I also had the local Ford Dealer install 8 new plugs (another 250) as I though perhaps the last ones install were not torqued down. Now after a little research and seeing your website, this appears to be a manufactures problem vs. human error. Add me to the list of folks that feel this warrants a recall by Ford.
