My 1999 Ford F-250 Super Duty with 5.4 Triton engine spit out the Number 3 Spark Plug. I was told the only way to repait the problem was to replace the Head with a new one,In order to remove the head and reinstall it properly the Dealership would have to REMOVE the CAB from the truck this repair cost me 3800.00 and Ford Customer Relations refused to even discuss the matter with me, saying there was no Problem with its product!

The spark plug blew out of the second cylinder on the right side of the engine. The vehicle has a little over 53,000 miles on it. I was told that this has been a problem with the ford aluminum heads.

Steven of Rensselaer, NY January 24, 2006

Steven of Rensselaer NY (01/24/06)
My 1998 Ford Expedition blew its first spark plug on the 5.4 v-8 triton engine with 121,000 miles 2 weeks ago. I just received an e-mail from a friend about this site and what others have faced with this ongoing problem (extended warranties). My warranty also did not cover the costs (saying it does not cover "spark plug problems") and now I'm forced to pay out-of-pocket too. This is way too expensive.

I don't know why this would happen to my truck! I've taken very good care of the engine & body. Intense maintenance to "upkeep" my warranty (i.e. oil changes, flushes, injection cleanings, engine maintenance, better parts, regular "check-ups," as well as keeping the truck pristine). My last suv, a 1996 Ford Explorer held up great. With the exception of blowing the transmission at 128,000 miles, the truck didn't have any problems! I didn't get rid of it until it had 157,000 miles.

I had heard about this problem, AFTER buying the truck. Hoped that good service would prevent this defect from affecting my truck... wrong! Spark Plug blew out of my 2001 F-150 SuperCrew pickup. Engine has been factory serviced, and had all plugs replaced at 100K miles, per the service instructions. Unit currently has 111K miles. Just happened today, have been reading about the thousands that have had the same problem for hours! It cost almost 800. to have the plugs changed at the dealer, now I see that it may cost upwards of 3000 for a fix that may occur again!

I was told that my Ford F-350 V10 blew a spark plug through the Cylinder Head which will cost 4,051 to repair. This truck is a 2000 with 87,000 miles. As it turns out I am finding that this is not just an isolated incident with me and that this is a chronic problem with Ford engines. This is outragous and an obvious defect and Ford should compensate me for and the cost of the rental car.
