Carolyn of Hillsboro OR (07/31/08) I purchased a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am GT in July 2007 from a local A & B Motors Co. with a little over 86,000 miles on it. Drove to California in Nov. 2007 and the car broke down, didn't want to run. We spent 980.00 to have the fuel pump assembly replaced w/ thermostat. Now in July 2008 we noticed the coolant light comes on and we have to add water or coolant and it is now leaking thru the intake manifold. I called a local dealership and they told me this is a common problem and we would need to replace the gaskets with the new updated ones to prevent the leak. I asked how much that would be and they said over 1000.00 to fix it. I can't afford this have heard there are class action lawsuits going on @ this time and just read one that is going on in California and that we have until Oct. 27, 2008 to file but I don't know who to contact. Please let me know who to contact. Thank you. Virginia of Sugar Land, TX July 30, 2008
Virginia of Sugar Land TX (07/30/08) We own a 2004 Pontiac Montana. At around 80,000 miles we began having issues with it jerking/shaking when first turned on. This happened intermittently and we took it to 3 mechanics, none of whom could figure out why it was happening. The 3rd visit occurred because the car suddenly began overheating. The water pump had broken and had to be replaced on 6/5/2008. Ironically, the jerking stopped.
One month later, on 7/10/2008, we had to replace some brakes and tires. When the tires were being replaced, we learned that the car also needed to have tie rods boots and hub bearings. At the time, the mechanic noticed the A/C we not cooling as well as it should. Now, not even one month later we had a diagnostic done and the A/C has 2 leaks and it will need to be replaced entirely.
This car has become an absolute money pit. Up until June, we hadn't really had any problems with it. I've had 2 foreign cars (both Toyotas) that I had 7 - 10 years and never had the severe issues I've had with this car. The bad part is that we were given a 2003 Pontiac Montana as well and it had its own issues too. Is there any class action suit for these issues?
Greater than 4,000 in actual/projected costs. We have not repaired the A/C and do not want to put one more dime into this lemon. Cindy of Stevenson, AL July 8, 2008
Cindy of Stevenson AL (07/08/08) I own a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am and the dash has folded up due to poor designing and I noticed in every one ive looked at (about 20) they are also folded up, I have contacted Pontiac and suggested a recall on them to have them fixed and they evidently do not back up their product so I would not recommend this model of car to anyone..
Lori of Fremont, CA June 22, 2008
Lori of Fremont CA (06/22/08) My 2002 POntiac Grand Prix was recalled for rocker arm covers catching fire or something so I scheduled an apointment ant took my car in. I needed a oil change as well and explained that my low coolant light would go on and after a while it would go off but the level was fine so they did a diagnistic test that cost me 134.00 for them to tell me that I need to replace my intake manifold gasket and it will cost me over 1100.00. I decided to get another estimate and found out that GM has alot of problems with the intake manifold leaking because of the coolant they tell you to use and that there is a class action law suit. I don't know what I need to do to become part of this law suit or if I can but if this is a defect it should be fixed at the companys expense and all the other damaghe caused from it should be paid by them as well.
