Back in February 2008 I had a cylinder 1 misfire code come on my 2004 Pontiac Grand Am GT. Replaced plug, wire, injector checked the coil and the ignition control module. Brought it to a mechanic and it ended up being the rocker arm bolt being stripped. The problem was fixed. Then in April 2009 a cylinder 5 misfire was being read went through the whole process again and it was the same problem in this cylinder. This time there was damage to the valve cover gasket. This seems to be a problem on the V6 3.4 engines; for it to happen on 2 of the 6 cylinders at 87,000 miles is not OK in my book and GM should be taking care of these issues. I have a 2005 Pontiac Montana. There are numerous things wrong and the list seems to continue everyday.
-Speedometer doesn't work (control cluster needs replaced)
- High pitch whistle especially when at highway speeds (cannot drown out the noise with the radio) this is considered an acceptable engineering problem
- Rear back up warning no longer works (this was probably only 1 yr after purchase)
-Passenger side window no longer rolls down.
I take good care of my vehicle but I just cannot keep up!

Richard of Upper Marlboro MD (04/15/09) I own a 2000 Pontiac Grand AM GT with only 75,000 miles on it. It has had regular scheduled maintenance on it. I kept getting an error light (Low Coolant) I would add coolant and before long the light was on again. I never saw any external leaks. Than I heard about the problem with the coolant and intake gasket on the 3.4 L engines.
I had the engine tested and repaired at a cost over 800. I lost the use of the car for 4 days. Susan of East Liverpool, OH April 14, 2009
Susan of East Liverpool OH (04/14/09) i own a 1998 pontiac grand prix which had no previous problems, everything was kept up on it and on 4-6-2009 i was on my way home from work and it caught on fire in the motor while i was in it. it totalled everything under the hood making it not possible to save.
i had to spend money i didn't have to buy another vehicle because i have to have a car to go back and forth to work. no physical damage, but emotional because i didn't have the money to buy another car and because it was just plain scary. Robert of Silver Spring, MD March 28, 2009
Robert of Silver Spring MD (03/28/09) My 2000 pontiacs transmission had to be rebuilt with 80000 miles on it. After further reviews this seems to be a big problem with these transmissions. The cost was just under 3000. Please help. Thanks,
Gary of Las Vegas, NV March 21, 2009
Gary of Las Vegas NV (03/21/09) 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT complained from day 1 about how the car always ran hot. I am sure by now the radiator is clogged it use to cool down but not no more. I was told it can be changed to regular anti-freeze but the radiator has to be flushed real good. Had an intake gasket replaced at 50,000 miles.
Also when I bought the car the coolant was brown which anti-freeze and dex-cool mixed together i understand this causes gumming in the coolant chambers. Which in turn causes flow restrictions and leads to overheating. But I was told by the dealer president it was OK. When the intake blew I made the flush it and puy new dex-cool in. I suppose thats why they arwe out of business. I have learned 1 thing about buying a car TRUST NO SALESPERSON they will lie to make the sale.
Just frustration and dealers thinking that consumers are stupid. |
