The Immaculate Honda Airbag Deployment - Part II My wife and two daughters were traveling down a gravel road in our 2005 Honda Odyssey when the side curtain airbags both deployed for no apparent reason. The State Farm Ins. rep has determined that there was no collision or impact of any kind. Honda says its not under warranty so they will not cover anything.

When the airbags deployed the front seatbelts jerked backed and caused bruising and subsequent soreness in the collarbone area to both my wife and oldest daughter. Both daughters were somewhat traumatized by the very loud boom! Believe it or not, the cost to reinstall the airbags is $6,400.

Marissa of El Dorado Hills CA (07/14/08)
In July 2006 my back tire bloew out and I fishtailed onto the side of the road. Then my 1993 Honda Civic flipped over twice. The airbag did not deploy! I have severe neck strain and muscle strain and am under care of a chiropracter and massage therapist. I still have a lot of pain but I am glad I didn't die. Wonder why the airbag didn't deploy though...

Patricia of Shelton CT (04/13/08)
I owned a Honda Civic 2007 and was in an accident on I-95. My car was hit three times-along the side, then the drivers door and finally the front of the car. Not a single airbag deployed. THe car was totaled. I called Honda to tell them that I believed the had a design flaw. They suggested that this was a matter between me and my insurance company. A few days later I was contacted by an independent investigator. (I later found out that he is independant, but he fee was paid by Honda.) He expressed his concern and wanted to have an opportunity to see what happend to the airbags. It also appeared to me that he was trying to do some damage control for Honda. He sent someone out to take a look at the car and a week or so later, I got a call from this person who looked at my car and he said the side airbags didn't go off because it wasn't a direct hit to the side and the front didn't go off because we were not going fast enough. Frankly none of this made any sense- the drivers door was hit directly and we were spun into a tractor trailer-I can't imagine a better reason for them to deploy! As far as going too slow. On the first impact we were going 60 mph the second two impacts happened within seconds of each other. Its all a mystery why Honda isn't taking complaints seriously.

Danielle of La Palma CA (03/11/08)
While in a accident with my 2003 Honda Accord, traveling on the 91 freeway in Southern California, my driver side airbag did not deploy while my passenger airbag did. This accident included a 3 car pile up with me cought in the middle. As I was coming to a stop in traffic the vehicle behind me rear ended me and thrusting me into the vehicle in front of me. Unfortunately, the driverside airbag did NOT deploy while the passenger did. Both the back end and front end are totally destroyed thus a complete total loss of vehicle

Roger of Rogersville TN (02/28/08)
We were in an accident on the interstate where a kady stopped in the fast lane at an on ramp because she thought someone was coming over on her and then our CRV got rear-ended by another vehicle doing apeorximately 60 mph and pushed us into her vehicle and our seat-belts did not hold nor did the airbags deploy. My husband had just returned from overseas with a head and neck and braininjurry and received severe whiplash and broke s jaw tooth out and a week after the accident I was found found to hsve not only whiplash but an aneurysm which rrequired brain surgery. maybe if he safety features would have worked properly neither of us would be going through thid at all and we had children in Hondas also with the SRS lights on but since this accident we have traded them and got safer vehicles. When I called my case rep and told him they marked doen the valuee of our trade-in because of the safety system llgth being on he told me I should have gone to another dealer until I found one that eould give us the price we wanted for our Honda and the safety issue was not mentioned.

Terry of Chagrin Falls OH (02/19/08)
Our Honda Odyssey 2001 recently had two broken front springs. While no Honda SB has been issued to my knowledge, and NHSTA closed their investigation(PE06-007)I thought I should pass along the info .

Etta of Florence AL (02/05/08)
On 12/08/07 I was approaching a narrow, steep and very curvy road. I was driving a 2004 Honda CRV and was driving approximately 30 to 35 mph. The road was wet from a recent rain. As I approached the first steep curve, I applied my brakes and the car began to skid. I tried to correct the skid but the steep incline and wet pavement prevented me from doing so. The car skidded across the road into a high dirt embankment. The first point of impact was the drivers headlight and drivers side of car. The damage was so severe I had to be removed from the car using jaws of life. The only airbag to deploy was the front passenger airbag (the side the sustained the least amount of damage). No other airbags deployed. The road was wet from an earlier rain. As I approached the first steep curve I applied my brakes. I did not press hard, just the normal pressure to slow the car. My car immediately slid to the right and began to accelerate. I applied my brakes again and the car spun around and was completely out of control. I accelerated down the curve, and I tried to bring the car back under control. I slid across the steep curve and hit a high dirt embankment. The left headlight and drivers side hit first.

Brenda of Sidney NE (12/04/07)
On November 19th, 2007 I was coming home from work alone in my 2006 Honda Civic Ex on a dirt road. I was not speeding and I was wearing my seatbelt. I chose a different route from my normal route and missed the S curve in the road. My car went to the ditch roughly 3 feet deep on the drivers side, hitting the driviers front, rolling the car one time, landing on the wheels and I put the brakes on, put the car in park and turned off the car.

I then got out of the passenger side of the car because the driver side was smashed completely down not allowing me to get out of the car or the window. I could not find my cell phone and went and looked into the field and found where my car rolled and found the phone with the glass from my window. I then called 911 and waited for assistance.

I was transportated to Sidney, Ne where after a catscan they found that I had a broken neck in 2 places C6 and C7. They then transferred me by ambulance to Fort Collins, Colorado where I had surgery to fuse the broken vertebreas. I am now out of work and out of a vehichle for now until I am healed.

I called Honda worried that NONE of the airbags went off, one of the reasons I bought this car was because of the safety rating because I wanted my family to be safe in any event of an accident. Honda after I called them back 2 times finially told me that (Case# N012007-11-2900916) Honda does not design their airbags to go off in the event of a rollover. Funny how when I did my research 1 out of 4 people are killed in a rollover. Why wouldn't that be a safety concern?? So needless to say there is nothing done to fix the situation.

Kathy of San Francisco CA (11/28/07)
I was in a serious car accident ('01 Honda Civic) and my airbags did not deploy. I believe it's a miracle that I survived this accident. A car cut in front of me, I swerved to avoid hitting him-causing my car to go into the center freeway divider-then my car rolled 3-4 times be4 coming to a rest. I kept my car and servicings up to date-no warning to indicate any airbag problem! I feel the airbags should have deployed since my freeway speed was 60-65.

Andrea of Cleveland TN (10/11/07)
On Friday 10/05/07 my 2 children and I was involved in a 5 car pile up. We were on Hwy 75 going home when the two cars in front stopped because of road construction. While coming to a stop the car behind me hit me at 65-70 mph slamming me into car in front. Then car behind him hit him. I was pushed into steering wheel. Were I have chest and neck pain with head aches. My 13 year old son was in passanger seat. Which thank the lord he was not hurt.

When was taken to hospital they asked if air bags where deployed. Stated no.

Even State troopers could not understand why they did not deploy. Several days letter went to see car. Was totalled. Front end of car is pushed all the way back to wind shield. Have talked to several honda dealers and they stated that air bags should have deployed. Called Honda and talked to customer svc rep who could not explain to me why air bags did not deploy. Adv me to contact insurance. Very upset due to reason purchased car was for safety. Am not done with this cause. I feel like I have been lied to when you walk into honda dealership and they have banners stating safety first.

Daniel of Diamond Bar CA (09/12/07)
A few months back, my wife was driving her 2007 Honda Civic Ex in front of me as we were pulling into a restaurant to grab some lunch. She nicked the curb with the front right tire going approximately 5mph which caused the left side curtain bag to deploy as well as the driver seat air bag. These air bags should not have deployed at a speed of 5mph and having no damage done to the vehicle. Honda corporation wont fix it, the dealership the car was purchased from wont fix it. So who will??

Janet of Scranton AR (08/28/07)
My 17 year old son was involved in an auto accident that nearly took his life. the airbags did not deploy on the sides and my son suffered traumatic brain injuries on all parts of his brain, collapsed lung, laserated liver and then needed a blood transfusion b/c he had lost so much 010707. No one has paid a dime, not the insurance or any of the defendants that I have filed claims against that could have prevented all this I need a lawyer for the faulty airbags, and someone that can help me to get what my son deserves b/c he will suffer now for the rest of his life due to negliagence.

Rosemary of Granada Hills CA (08/22/07)
My daughter has a 2006 Honda Civic, my daughter and her boyfriend got in her car, she started it, put it in reverse, had her foot on the brake while her boyfriend was talking to his brother, his brother closed the passenger side door and the airbags went off. Honda first said the airbags went off because the door was shut too hard, then they said it was an immaculate deployment and they don't know why they went off, either way, they are not covering it!!

Larinda of Centreville VA (07/24/07)
We were in a car reck Saturday night. We were hit from behind. We were stopped at a red light when a mini copper hit us going pretty fast. The dirver was 17 and did not have on his glasses, he was alone in the car. When the police came his mom who had arived stated that he had his contact in. The doy did not even get a ticket because the airbags did not pop. The Van was moved and the air bags did not pop. I was in the car with My husband driving and our 4 children. When I ask Honda why didn't the airbags pop they stated you were not hit right, the engine mount was broken, the metal in the rear bumper is sticking out and the electrical system was missed up. It should not matter were you are hit the air bags should have opened and the reason why is bogis.

Robert of Gilbert AZ (07/22/07)
2001 Honda Civic air bag light. Car in accident, no deployment of driver's air bag, but deployment of passenger. Try to repair, replace driver's air bag, but the SRS light stays on. Honda Diagnostics no help.

Sheridan of Salem OR (07/22/07)
An impaired wrong way driver travelling at 65 mph hit my 2007 Honda Element SC head on as I was travelling at approximately 35 miles per hour, causing sevre injuries t me which require Neurosurgery and extensive rehabilitation. This is a combined speed of 100mph head-on! I was wearing my seatbelts but no airbags went off. I have been unable to find an experienced airbag attorney and Honda Corporation does not respond to my calls. Can anyone out therre advise me of how to be successful in contactinmg an experienced airbag attornery to take this over for me, or for me to find an independent examiner to review my vehicle before it leaves the storage lot?

Maria of Compton CA (07/19/07)
I got into head on collision last night in my 2002 accord ex coupe. The car had extensive damage My face hit the steering wheel pretty hard bruising my cheek and to my surprise my airbags didnt deploy. I need to get a number for HONDA and see what the deal was. I purchased my car new from Norm Reeves Honda in Cerritos,CA in 2002 and I don't understand why they didnt deploy, does this happen all the time?

Felipe of Kailua Kona HI (04/11/07)
4-10-07 my wife was in a accident and the air bag did not pop out!

Front and rear were smached in .

Wayne of Hyattsville MD (04/09/07)
On Feb.7, 2007, my son was involved in an accident while driving a 2003 Honda Element. During a heavy snow, he changed lanes and hit the car in front of him while driving approximately 45 miles per hour.

The airbags did not deploy.

My son sustained trauma to the chest and cuts to his head. Thankfully, his injuries were not worse, though he did require a two-day hospital stay. The insurance company advised us that the car was totaled. We do not understand why the air bags did not deploy. We contacted Honda and they sent out an independent investigator, Mr. Fred Schroeder, who is paid by Honda and other car dealers.

He stated, it was a classic submarining impact caused by breaking prior to impact. When we questioned this response, Mr. Schroeder indicated that the airbags failed to deploy because the Elementâ's bumper was higher than the car that was hit, implying that the airbags would only deploy during a collision with an automobile of equal or greater height. This makes absolutely no sense to me. According to the 2003 OWNER' MANUAL for airbags, for the ELEMENT, page 5, off your car collides head-on with a solid barrier at 30 mph, it will come to a stop almost instantly.

Since you and any passengers you are carrying are moving as fast as the car, you will continue forward at 30 mph until you are stopped by something. If you are not stopped by a seat belt or an airbag, you will strike the interior of the car with a force equivalent to falling out of a third-story window and landing face-first on pavement. However, if you are wearing a seat belt and your front airbag deploys, the belt will restrain you and reduce the chance of injury, and the airbag will provide additional protection for your head and chest.  Also page 7 states,  When a car with front airbags is in a frontal collision, sensors detect the crash and measure its severity. It he sensors detect a rate of deceleration that is high enough to cause life-threatening injuries, they signal the control unit to instantly inflate the airbags. While your seat belt helps restrain your torso and slow down your forward movement, the airbags supplements your seat belt in two ways: It helps further restrain your upper body and slow you down, and it provides a cushion between your head and chest and interior vehicle parts. If the above does not apply, the public needs to be made aware of this fact. The car industry, the car dealers, and the car salesmen have a responsibility to inform the consumers of these facts.

The auto makers are not telling the consumer that airbags will deploy only when you hit a car, ât a certain manner or height?. What can we do to make the public aware of the misinformation or lack of information given to us by the car industry regarding airbags? Pictures of the automobile, (after accident), are available upon request.

We drove a 98 Honda Accord. We were in a car accident where we collided and severely damaged the front end. Our vehicle was totaled. Our air bags didn’t go off. Our insurance guy who looked at the car said that our airbags were technically working and was also surprised they didn't go off.

Nudrat of Hopkinton MA (11/06/06)
I had an accident on the 29th Oct this year. I was driving on the highway when the traffic infront of me slowed down and i slowed down when the guy coming from behind rear ended me with a severe high impact causing me to rear end the car infront of me (causing entensive damage to thr front), and that car infront of another. Was a 4 car accident. I was the only one who was taken to the hospital and was diagnosed by minor head injury and neck strain. I still have head ache, neck pain and feel nausea, body is sore. The car is a total loss concluded by my insurance company. The front is all smashed and the air bags did not deploy. When they are suppose to deploy? It was my luck that i survived. My seat belt kept me in place otherwise i could be thrown out of the car.

Madeleine of Evergreen Park IL (11/02/06)
I had experienced a recurring crack on the air bag cover. I have taken it to the Honda dealer every week thus far for the last 1 1/2 months. The crack has appeared while they had the car as well. No one knows why this is happening, including American Honda mechanics. Therefore, they can only keep replacing the horn. I have reported this issue as a lemon since there has been no similar reports so they say) and it is a safety issue since I have had the SRS light (airbags) go on during the time the crack has appeared. In addition to vehicle problems, I have also had problems with Honda Financial. I purchased my car 8/1/06 and sent in my first payment prior to the due date of 9/15/06. According to bank records, they received it 9/2/06. Around the beginning of October, during the time the 2nd payment was due, they sent me a payment notice stating they never received the Sept. payment. When they reviewed their records, they advised me the reason for the notice was because they were in the process of changing their accounts over and I was given a new account number. The customer service rep. stated she would switch the amount from the old account to the new account and the problem will be solved. Three weeks later, I received another phone call from Honda Finance stating my October payment had not been paid. Apparently, the issue was not resolved when they said it was! I was just so fraustrated with the combination of automobile problems and financial problems, I sold my vehicle and bought a Nissan.

Joani of Lincoln NE (10/30/06)
I was driving down NW 54th in lincoln nebraska with my mothers 98' Honda Accord EX when an old guy in a silverado truck pulled out in front of me off a gravel road. Of course I hit him traveling @ approx. 55MPH. The collision was a dead stop. Both my drivers and passengers air bags deployed. Lukily I was the only one in the car. Afterwards, I had a sever burn on my left arm and some minor burns to my face and stomache. Hitting the other car at those kinds of speeds also resulted in brusing to my chest and a cut on my stomache. After the insurance company had finished their work, my mom bought a 05' Honda Accord EX to replace the one I had totaled. I'm still scared to death to drive one of her cars. Will the air bags hurt again? Will they fail me once? Twice? I am currently looking at replacing my current vehicle with a 04' Honda CRV. I personally love the car, but am really concerned with the safety issue.

Barry of Chilliwack, Canada (08/09/06)
My son went around a corner a bit too fast in his 1995 Honda Civic Si. When he hit the (abs) brakes, he went into a 4-wheel skid and crashed the front of the car into a telephone pole. Next: the airbags didn't deploy for the driver or passenger. No one was injured but the car is possibly totaled.

Ashlie of Natick MA (05/18/06)
I got a letter stating that Honda has extended their warranty on the OPDS system (controls the airbags). I have had my OPDS system checked twice and was told that the next time the OPDS light goes off I have to come in that the OPDS would have to be replaced.

When I called Honda to tell them that the light went off twice in the past week I was told that I couldn't get Honda to cover the cost because the light was not currently on.

The light had to be on when I brought it in to Honda. I have a 2002 Honda Accord. I tried to talk to Honda about replacing the unit asap because I drive back and forth from Mass. to CT. and I didn't want to be halfway through my drive and have the light go off, leaving me with no airbags.

I was told that when the OPDS light is on that the airbags will not deploy. This scares me because I am traveling a majority of the way on the Mass Pike and I-84.

What if I am driving and the light goes off and I get into an accident?

Honda will not replace this unit without the light being on when it clearly states in my car history at Bernardi Honda in Natick Mass that the OPDS unit needs to be replaced if the light comes on again.

I feel that Honda is going to keep pushing me off and not fix something that is highly unsafe.

Larry of Elk Grove C CA (01/04/06)
I was in a single car accident in Ely, NV. My car was totalled and I had a broken neck resulting in an anterior fusion of C5-6-7. The driver side air bag didn't deploy but the passenger side did. I was off work for 3 months, I am still in Therapy.

John of Sandy Hook CT (11/30/05)
While driving in Honda Accord I was hit by another car in the front right side. The passenger side airbag deployed but the drivers side did not. The car is totaled. Shouldn't both passenger and driver side airbags go off in front collision?

Dave of Newburg PA (03/15/05)
My wife was driving home from work in a snowstorm and slid off the road and hit a ditch head-on. I am happy she is OK but the airbag never deployed.

Scott of Jacksonville FL (09/14/04)
I was recently in an accident, where my front end was struck by and oncoming vehicle at a T. Her airbags deployed. Mine did not. My seat belt was the only thing keeping me in place. I suffered a bruised should from hitting my side window, and some whiplash. I am most concerned about the reliability of the airbag system.

Caroline of Reseda CA (09/12/04)
My aunt was driving on the freeway when another driver cut her off. in an attempt to avoid an accident, she lost control of her 2003 Honda Accord. The car rolled several times. During that, her airbag did not deploy. she sustained major neck and spinal cord injuries.

Freshta of West Hollywood CA (08/09/04)
I got into a car accident last Friday and the front of my car is completely totaled. The problem is: my airbag did NOT go off and it should have. The police questioned this as well. I'm pretty worried as to why an airbag would not deploy during a head on collision. So far, my neck and lower back hurts. My car will be in the shop for 3-4 weeks and I want to know how I can go about discussing this with Honda, as I am not content with the non-deployment of my airbag.

John of Encino CA (07/01/04)
In what should have been a simple fender-bender where both parties drove away, my wife was injured by the deployment of her '97 Honda CR-V's airbag. This was very low-speed impact that caused minor damage to both cars involved. My wife suffered severe 2nd degree burns to both arms, in addition to bruises and abrasions to her face.

Ronald of West Covina CA (06/08/04)
The airbag on my 6 month old Honda Pilot went for no reason. On 4/14/04, my wife was driving home from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, cruising at a speed of 65mph. Both the driver side and passenger side airbags went off for no reason, causing the vehicle to loss control which resulted injuries to the passengers and driver and damages to the vehicle. After the airbag got deployed, the security system went off continously, therefore the vehicle was unable to start.

Because the vehicle was damaged when I brought it in for my insurance company to do assest the damages, both my insurance company(Mercury) and Honda insist that the airbags were deployed after the accident. I've ask the insurance company to launch an investigation on the SRS system to retrieve any data may be used to determine what cause the airbag deployment. They came up empty because the 2004 Honda Pilot is not equipment to record data before and after the airbags have been deployed. As a result, I have to paid for my insurance deductibles, extra 4 days of car rental due to delays in the SRS airbag investigation.

Joanna of Westlake LA (03/12/04)
I was in a car wreck two days ago in which i was hit by another car going about 40 mph. The airbags of my 2001 Honda Civic did not deploy. Personally when the bumper of your car is no longer attached I believe the airbags should have gone off. I luckily was not severely injured. I walked away with bruises. Now i would like to pursue a lawsuit but can not find a lawyer willing to take on the Honda corporation.

Jane of Verona VA (03/07/04)
I owned a 2002 Honda Civic Sedan EX and was involved in a direct frontal collision with a woman who blacked out while driving. She was traveling at approximately 55 MPH. I was waiting to make a turn when I was hit directly in the front, totalling my Civic. No airbags deployed. Honda has been notified by both my attorney and by myself personally, but we only received another copy of the safety manual on these 5 star safety rated vehicles.

I had injuries to my left arm and hand, my chest, my lower abdomin, and a blow on my head. I had severe pain for several months and now have a 10% impairment in the use of my left hand.

Shikina of Mooresville NC (02/17/04)
On Saturday, August 30, 2003, my boyfriend and I were involved in a terrible car wreck that nearly took our lives. I was driving my 2003 Honda Accord on W.T. Harris Blvd in Charlotte, North Carolina about 6:30pm when something small like a possum ran into the road. My first instinct was to avoid from hitting it, sadly I ended up running off the road on to the grass median and hitting the ditch. The nose of my car went down into the ditch and caused my car to flip head over tail three times to oncoming traffic on Harris Blvd.

During the last flip, and now on the wrong side of the highway, while still in the air, a man driving a white Lincoln Navigator crashed into both my front and back passenger side doors. The Navigator carried my car a few feet and then when he was finally able to stop my car slid off his hood then spun around a few times and then the car jumped the guard rail. If the guard rail had not been there, we would have gone plunging down into the woods. The front tires were hanging on to the guard rail.

I am not sure what happen to the man in the Navigator, but I do know that his SUV was seriously totaled upon our impact and he had to be air lifted to the hospital. My boyfriend and I had to be cut out of the roof of my car and rushed to the Trauma Hospital. Believe it or not, none of my air bags deployed during this accident, NONE.

I was driving a brand new 2003 Honda Accord EX, only 10 months old, and none of my air bags deployed. Honda is rated as having some of the safest vehicles on the road, but my brand new car flipped over 3 times, was hit by a big Navigator in both my passenger side doors, in which the impact totaled his SUV, but none of my Honda air bags deployed. The injuries we suffered were a direct result of these air bags not deploying. (My doctor is willing to document that).

From my body not being stabilized by the front or curtain side air bags my knee hit the dash board and caused my leg to be pushed back which broke my pelvic bone at my hip. I now have a plate and seven screws in my hip. I suffer with a significant amount of pain daily that I am trying to learn how to control. My hip will never be or feel the same. Not only have I already started to develop arthritis in my hip but there is also a chance that I may need total hip replacement surgery in the next 8-10 months.

My boyfriend is pretty banged up and having many problems with his shoulders back and neck. His doctor has recommended that he have surgery to repair his shoulder problem and fix his pain problem. This surgery will put him out of work for 3 months. During my investigation with these airbags, I found in the new Honda’s, that if one of these air bags is activated and deploy, they will all deploy. This means that if the Honda flipping over 3 times was not enough to activate these air bags then definitely the Navigator colliding into both of my passenger side doors should have activated all of them.

Basically, we were told that we had no case. My previous attorney spoke with Joan B, a representative from Honda, who explained to him that if I wanted to file a claim against Honda I would have to go through my insurance company. The crazy thing about that is Honda went and picked up the car from the junk yard before they said this. Honda was being very cooperative with me until they picked up that car. Well unfortunately I am having a huge problem with my insurance company paying for my accident; therefore, that is not an option right now. I told him that I thought that is why people hire attorneys..

Lisa of Union IL (02/11/04)
My 1997 Honda Accord SE hits a patch of ice and control is lost. The car hits a steel guardrail HEAD-ON at 40 MPH. It was a tremendous hit and I was sure the entire front end was damaged, possibly totalled. Guess what? NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. Everyone, including my insurance company was shocked at this.

I lost thousands of dollars over the course of the radiator event, and had to solve the problem myself. RE: the accident -- brusing across my upper body from the shoulder belt, lost time at work from pain -- due to no airbag deployment. Why?

Darlene of North Vancouver BC (01/11/04)
My 1994 Honda Accord slipped on black ice and subsequently hit two parked cars (and two separate carport supports also). The speed was approximately 30 km/hr. Both front airbags deployed but only partially. They were ineffective as they just came out of their container only and did not even reach the driver, never mind protect him.

In this case nobody, including the driver, was injured. Had this been a high speed accident, having airbags that only deploy partially would negate the reason for having any airbags at all.

Victoria of Folsom CA (10/14/03)
On August 27, 2003, Wednesday afternoon, I was driving my 1995 Honda Accord Wagon and was at a full stop on a freeway exit ramp in Sacramento, CA when a Ford F-250 pick-up truck (going about 50-60 mph) rear-ended me causing my car to hit the car in front of me that also caused it to hit another car in front of it. My car was considered totaled and my airbags did not even deploy. Fortunately, my passenger and I had our seatbelts on.

Aside from a whiplash injury, my passenger had a shoulder dislocation from the impact and I had a toe fracture. At the time of the accident, my passenger and I did not have any insurance coverage due to unemployment. Medical treatment had to be sought for these injuries and are being paid out of pocket until the person at fault's insurance starts paying.

Rex of Highland UTAH (05/05/03)
This mornilng my wife was driving to work on the freeway. She was going about 65 mph. The road was clear with no litter. Her side airbag went off with no known reason. It caused her seatbealt to leave a long bruise on her neck. Her left arm was burnt and scratched. She pulled to the side of the road thinking she had hit another car or something due to the loud noise when the bag deployed but when no one else stopped and she had stopped crying, she got out and found no scratch on the car, nothing in the road which she may have hit even though she felt no impact etc. It just went off. Now she does not want to drive the car so I had to drive to her work and trade cars with her.

Seat and roof were torn when bags deployed on drivers side of car both front and back. Wife was traumatized and has abrasions on her left arm and neck with brusing and burn looking rash.

Abby of Morgantown KY (03/11/03)
I had a wreck in my 1992 Honda Accord an the air bag did not work. I hit the windshield even though I had my seat belt on.

Tracy of Corona CA (02/27/03)
I was involved in an accident where my 2002 Civic Sedan LX rear ended another vehicle at approximately 35-40 mph. My airbags did not deploy and the seatbelt slammed into me causing bruising and current chest pain. I called Honda to ask them to do an airbag investigation on my car and they stated that they don't do that. My insurance company is insisting that Honda has to do it due to product liability, but Honda keeps denying that that is not their place to do that.
