Madeleine of Evergreen Park, IL November 2, 2006

Madeleine of Evergreen Park IL (11/02/06)
I had experienced a recurring crack on the air bag cover. I have taken it to the Honda dealer every week thus far for the last 1 1/2 months. The crack has appeared while they had the car as well. No one knows why this is happening, including American Honda mechanics. Therefore, they can only keep replacing the horn. I have reported this issue as a lemon since there has been no similar reports so they say) and it is a safety issue since I have had the SRS light (airbags) go on during the time the crack has appeared. In addition to vehicle problems, I have also had problems with Honda Financial. I purchased my car 8/1/06 and sent in my first payment prior to the due date of 9/15/06. According to bank records, they received it 9/2/06. Around the beginning of October, during the time the 2nd payment was due, they sent me a payment notice stating they never received the Sept. payment. When they reviewed their records, they advised me the reason for the notice was because they were in the process of changing their accounts over and I was given a new account number. The customer service rep. stated she would switch the amount from the old account to the new account and the problem will be solved. Three weeks later, I received another phone call from Honda Finance stating my October payment had not been paid. Apparently, the issue was not resolved when they said it was! I was just so fraustrated with the combination of automobile problems and financial problems, I sold my vehicle and bought a Nissan.

Joani of Lincoln, NE October 30, 2006

Joani of Lincoln NE (10/30/06)
I was driving down NW 54th in lincoln nebraska with my mothers 98' Honda Accord EX when an old guy in a silverado truck pulled out in front of me off a gravel road. Of course I hit him traveling @ approx. 55MPH. The collision was a dead stop. Both my drivers and passengers air bags deployed. Lukily I was the only one in the car. Afterwards, I had a sever burn on my left arm and some minor burns to my face and stomache. Hitting the other car at those kinds of speeds also resulted in brusing to my chest and a cut on my stomache. After the insurance company had finished their work, my mom bought a 05' Honda Accord EX to replace the one I had totaled. I'm still scared to death to drive one of her cars. Will the air bags hurt again? Will they fail me once? Twice? I am currently looking at replacing my current vehicle with a 04' Honda CRV. I personally love the car, but am really concerned with the safety issue.

Ashlie of Natick, MA May 18, 2006

Ashlie of Natick MA (05/18/06)
I got a letter stating that Honda has extended their warranty on the OPDS system (controls the airbags). I have had my OPDS system checked twice and was told that the next time the OPDS light goes off I have to come in that the OPDS would have to be replaced.

When I called Honda to tell them that the light went off twice in the past week I was told that I couldn't get Honda to cover the cost because the light was not currently on.

The light had to be on when I brought it in to Honda. I have a 2002 Honda Accord. I tried to talk to Honda about replacing the unit asap because I drive back and forth from Mass. to CT. and I didn't want to be halfway through my drive and have the light go off, leaving me with no airbags.

I was told that when the OPDS light is on that the airbags will not deploy. This scares me because I am traveling a majority of the way on the Mass Pike and I-84.

What if I am driving and the light goes off and I get into an accident?

Honda will not replace this unit without the light being on when it clearly states in my car history at Bernardi Honda in Natick Mass that the OPDS unit needs to be replaced if the light comes on again.

I feel that Honda is going to keep pushing me off and not fix something that is highly unsafe.

I was in a single car accident in Ely, NV. My car was totalled and I had a broken neck resulting in an anterior fusion of C5-6-7. The driver side air bag didn't deploy but the passenger side did. I was off work for 3 months, I am still in Therapy.
