Lisa of Milford PA (9/23/03):
Steal little, steal big: I purachased a Jaguar for my parent's 50th wedding anniversary. It was their first no-compromise car. I bought the $1120 premium package with a deluxe maple burl steering wheel. The steering wheel was not delivered. I notified Jaguar of this, and their response was "Oh, the you got the 'other' premium package." That meant without the major component -- the steering wheel.

My mother's response, "ok, so you did not step up to the premium package. (a/k/a "I'll sit in the dark." ) Three witnesses, including the sales rep, can confirm that there was no discussion of any premium package other than the one described in the brochure. Jaguar's ultimate response: silence.

The actual damages are $1120, the writtem price given for the premium package we did not receive. The compromise, however, defeats the purpose of a $40,000 gift.

Angela of Astoria NY (4/2/02):
I own a 1990 Jaguar Sovereign which was handed down to my from my parents who bought it new in 1990 for approximately $60,000. The car is only 12 years old, however, it is now totalled and inoperable because of a rusted subframe.

I find it extremely incredible that a 12 year old car of any model, let alone one which was so costly, should have a rusted subframe, especially one that has been garaged for most of its ownership. I contacted Jaguar constomer service to ask if there was anything that could be done by Jaguar to repair the car. They stated that there was a 6-year warrenty on the car. My contention is that there must be something wrong with that model, make, year of Jaguar, as there are classic Jaguars (Fords, Chryslers, etc.) in existance much older than mine without the same problems.

In addition, my mechanic who has serviced my car from the very start, has an identical 1989 Jaguar Sovereign in his lot, abandoned by the owner because it has a rusted subframe and is unrecoverable. Not only was there a rusted subframe, but the car altogether is a lemon with countless other problems and ailments throughout mine and my parents' ownership of the vehicle.

I wrote the president of Jaguar, appealing my case, letting him know that I would contact consumer agencies if I did not receive a response to my letter. I never received a response. My request was to have my vehicle repaired by Jaguar. My concern is that others are having the same dangerous problem as I had. When I brought the car to the mechanic, after hearing a strange noise at the front left tire, he informed me that this car should never have been driven in that condition, and the entire wheel could have come off while driving. I imagine this could have cause a major accident and injuries.

I believe if there is a problem with the make, year and model of my car, Jaguar has the responsibility to recall and / or repair the vehicle.

We think Angela is being unrealistic. Most cars are ready for the scrap heap by their 12th year.
