Eric of Henderson, NV December 10, 2008

I called Just Brakes on 12/09/08 to get estimate for replacing brakes on my 2003 BMW X5. The rep. introduced himself as Bo-J and said it would cost 99 plus. He said to drop the car for an estimate. So, I dropped my car there and after 45 minutes he called me saying to come by and check to see what needs to be done. He wouldn't discuss the price on the phone. When I got there my car was on the lift with all four wheels off. His mechanic proceeded to show me that the boots on the front axle were torn and leaking oil.

This seemed obsured since I just took the car to Honest-1 Auto afew week earlier for a brake inspection and they didn't mention anything about the boots being torn. Also the car was inspected at BMW dealership afew months ago! I just wanted to get the cheapest estimate available to replace the front brakes. My car has only 45K miles. It's highly unlikely that the axle boots would be torn like that. I think Just Brakes tore them!

They wanted to charge me 550 to replace them. Also, they said I need fix the calipers because the piston is sticking. The cost = 220. Also, Bo-J said I need to replace both front and rear pads and rotors. The cost = 430. The grand total coming to 1200. What a Ripoff! I was furious. I told him to put the car back together and I am taking it somewhere else. He tried to convince me to fix it there because they would charge much less than the dealership. Upon leaving I told him that he'll hear from my attorney.

They tore both the front axle boots. Estimated cost to fix according to them is 550.

My brakes were squeaking and had started grinding on my way to AZ from CA for Thanksgiving. I took my van to Just Brakes on the Friday after Thanksgiving. They tred to convince me that my van needed 600 worth of work done to the brakes, and told me that if I continued to drive the van parts of the brakes would fall apart any day, the brake fluid would come out and I would lose control of my vehicle.

Thank goodness I had my dad with me, because we took the van to Meineke, and had the work done for 200. The techs at Meineke told me that I just needed new pads and my rotors turned, and I didn't need the hardware replaced as Just Brakes had said. When I told the tech to put my brakes back together and put my wheels on, they tried to tell me it was too late because I had already intialed that they could start the work.

The tech that helped me at Just Brakes said unless I agreed to all of the work I couldnt even drive the van away. I told him I dont have the 600 to get the work done, and he said, that I misunderstood him I dont need all of that work done. I told him he already said I needed all of that work done and I was going elsewhere now.

Watch out what you sign at Just Brakes, you have to sign and initial just to get them to look at the vehicle but what you are signing gives them the authorization to start the work. And their techs seem to just want to find the way to scare people and rip them off. They even told my dad after I said I am going elsewhere I hope your randsone isnt riding in that van.

Luckily I took my van right to Meineke, and the tech there said whoever last looked at my brakes hadn't put them back together correctly.

I went in to have my brakes repaired. On my way to the shop, I opened my glove compartment to confirm the location of my wheel lock, knowing that they would need to use it to get the wheels off. When I arrived to the shop, they took my vehicle into a service bay. Five minutes later a tech came out to ask me where my wheel lock was. I told him it is in the glove compartment. Five minutes later a different tech came out to say he could not find the lock. I told him that I saw it on my way here. He asked me to take a look.

I don't know where the first tech disappeared to, but I believe he took the lock. He was no where to be found. I believe someone at the shop stole the lock. I informed the service men at the front desk that the lock was there on my way in. Their response was that no one there has that type of car. I told them that it doesn't mean they don't know someone with this type of car. I left without work on my brakes and without a wheel lock.

I have to immediately purchase a wheel lock from the dealer because without the lock if I have a flat tire on the road, I will not be able to have it changed. Also, my brakes need to be changed immediately and that cannot be done without the lock. The lock will probably cost over 100.
