Midas Faces Bait-and-Switch Charges in California

Ken of Sierra Vista, AZ March 27, 2006

Kenof Sierra Vista AZ (03/27/06)
I went in to Midas becasue my brakes were squealing. Why Midas? Although they were more expensive, I assumed a Nationally known company with a reputation would be more beneficial in the safety of my family. After a "free" inspection, I was informed I needed new front pads, and my rotors re-worked. I expected this, but the surprise was; my reaer brakes didn't need to be replaced, and the price for the fronts pads was almost 400. I was surprised about the rear brakes, because I knew from my own inspection that they were very worn. Midas only used the parking brake cable measurement method to determine the condition of the rear brakes, which are drum brakes.

After exactly one week, my front brakes were squealing worse than when I brought the vehicle in. I took it back to Midas, and they re-worked the rotore (really, this time) and sent me on my way. I suspect they only used "stop-squeal" on the brakes, because a few days later, they began squealing again. After exactly two more weeks, I took the vehicle back, and was told my front pads would be replaced free of charge, and I would get "a break" on the labor for the back pads which were now squealing as well.  So far...not impressed with Midas.
