Jerry of San Marcos, CA May 15, 2009 I had just boughta used class c motorhome(21')and the exhaust sounded really loud to me so I took it to midas for what I thought were the muffler specialists to see what they thought.I told them that it may have some after maket headers on it and if they thought that may be why it was loud brad said he would have it checked out by his (asm or asi ? certified technition). After inspection he said that I had rusted out mufflers and they needed to be replace along with a heat riser gasket to solve the problem. brad said he would have to order the mufflers he could not get the parts till the end of the day.I agreed to the estimate and to have the work done when the parts came in.when the parts arived i showed up at shop with a different store managerand proceeded to get the work done. while wating and observing I noticed how fake the customer service was and the small talk to make you feel comfortable and then they would get notified of all the extra work they recomended to make your cars safe.As my vehichle was being finished and I was paying 487.00 for new muffflers I said to Tony I sure hope this fixes the loud exhaust he assured me it would then when they started it to backit out of the garage I said "it sounds exactly the same"he replied "its a v-8 its going to sound throaty. I left very upset that for 487.00 I gained nothing.when I got home I forgot that I had a coupn for 15% of and went back to give it to tony he teated me with no concern like Iwas a fly in his ointment.I contacted corporate they said sombody would contact me within 3 buisness days the only one to call was tony and I had no intentions of talking to him.once again feeling like "Iv've paid go away chump".Now Brad has told me that he found out after the fact that his certified technitoin informed him that my headers were why it was so loud.So now for 487.00 I haved gained nothing,no noise reductioun ,no perfomance enhansment ,no cosmetics, and it had also passed smog 34 days pryor so no mechanical improvement . Iwas not ever shon the old mufflers either. I was not ever shon the old mufflers either. Nick of Milwaukee, WI May 7, 2009 I came in December 10, 2008 for an oil change on my 2001 Ford Escape. After he got done I drove off of the lot and almost immediately I smelled something burning but I thought it was something outside so I didn't pay it any attention. That same evening I got off of work and again something smelled like it was burning. Then all of a sudden the oil light starts to flash. I pull over at a gas station and popped the hood and noticed there was oil splattered underneath the hood, on the belts, and on the hoses. There was also smoke coming from down by the fan which would explain the burning smell. At that time I already knew Midas messed up on my oil change but it was so late in the evening I couldn't even go back becasue they were closed so I drove home. The next day on my way to Midas all the syptoms I had the day before were still present except for the fact that my engine was now knocking. About 2 - 4 blocks away from Midas the engine shut off. I was able to restart it but it seized up completely as I was pulling into their driveway. They came out and pushed my vehicle into their garage while I waited in the lobby for 5 - 10 minutes. The manager called me in and stated to me that there was oil in my vehicle and that he didn't know why my engined locked up. I said well can you do something. He said they don't do engines and that I should take it to another shop that does. I was like whatever. So my vehicle sat on their lot over night because I didn't have the money for a tow. The next day I was able to get one and I had it towed to my mechanic. As soon as he popped the hood he could already put together what had happened but to be sure he had to remove the engine and for him to do that I had to pay him some money. He told me I should go with a rebuilt engine versus a used one so that is what I did but not until February. Before I did all that I went to the Midas website and sent a complaint to there customer service department. The next day the manager of the shop I took my vehicle to called me and he still insisted his shop did nothing wrong. So when February came I gave my mechanic 2,000 as a down payment for the 4,000 plus total it was going to cost me for the rebuilt engine. About a week after he got started he called me and told me knew what had caused my engine to seize up. I came to the shop and he showed me the oil filter while it was still on my old engine. Apparently the fool who did my oil change at Midas forgot to remove the old oil filter gasket before insatlling the new oil filter. That is what caused my oil to spary all underneath the hood. The next day I went to Midas with my old oil filter exactly how it was when my mechanic took it off of my engine and showed it to the manager. He made copies of my mechanic's statement and I also gave him his business card. The next day I got a call from the owner. He still insisted that they did nothing wrong because they claimed the vehicle had oil in it when I brought it back up to their shop but if that were true then why did my engine lock up and why did the oil light come on??????? He never answered my question. He would always try and change the subject. So me and the owner spoke several times throughout the month of March but still nothing happened and by then I was starting to loose my patience with them. To make long story short I'm suing Midas now for 4,376.86 which is the cost of my new engine and labor. I WILL NEVER EVER DO BUSINESS WITH MIDAS AGAIN FOR AS LONG AS I LIVE!!!!!!!!!!! Barbara of Thompson Ridge, NY April 26, 2009 On December 29, 2008 I brought my car into Midas for a routine oil change and paid over 600.00 for repairs. The next day the engine light went on and I brought the car back to Midas and it cost me another 800.00. I have been in contact with the owner and the answer I received was this was another issue and your car has been sitting idle for 4 months, and this is normal. I keep telling the owner my car was never sitting idle and before I brought it in for a routine oil change I drove over 60 miles that day to see how the car was running. My car drove and sounded great! This Midas has done all repairs and oil changes for the last two years and my car was there in August of 08 and everything was fine. Then in December 08, I needed to spend 1521.26 for repairs. I think Midas needed money and they charge me more then double for parts!
