Ken of Loveland, CO November 9, 2006

Ken of Loveland CO (11/09/06)
At the time of I am writing this it is Fall 2006. My wife's 2005 Pathfinder, which we purchased new, has had 13 separate problems that have typically required one visit to the dealer to diagnose and another to fix. These are the problems the vehicle has had so far:

1) The fuel filler door broke in a way where it could not be closed.
2) The rear driver-side window would sometimes refuse to roll up.
3) The VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control?) had to be reprogrammed.
4) The towing harness had to be replaced.
5) The auto-dimming rearview mirror would not dim.
6) Part of one of the roof rails fell off.
7) The front passenger-side tire would rub at certain steering angles.
8) Two panels in the cargo area buckled in under light loads.
9) The fuel filler neck developed a leak, causing the check engine light to come on.
10) The fuel system vent valve failed, causing the check engine light to come on.
11) The fuel system vent valve failed again, causing the check engine light to come on.
12) The fuel system evaporative cannister became clogged with debris under normal soccer mom use of the vehicle, causing the check engine light to come on (623.00 if you have to pay for its replacement).
13) A pressure sensor in the fuel system failed.

I called Nissan Consumer Affairs about the excessive number of problems, and asked them to extend the vehicle's warranty -- WHICH WOULD COST THEM NOTHING IF NOTHING ELSE BREAKS. However, they refused, apparently not caring that I will NEVER buy another Nissan.

Wasted an inordinate amount of time at dealerships waiting for issues to be diagnosed and fixed.

A screw fell out of the intake manifold of my 2002 Nissan Pathfinder and was sucked into a cylinder. The dealer mechanic states that it destroyed the piston and valves as well as gouged the cylinder walls. He says the car was obviously well cared for and there was nothing I could have done to avoid the problem and that it looked like a factory issue.

I am advised that I need a new engine at 10,900 or a used (38,000 miles) motor at 6,900. Nissan refuse to help me on the replacement because the car has 68,000 miles - the warranty is for 60,000. I cannot get through to even argue this with any of the parties to the denial of help - I've simply been told by a charming female voice (Tiffany) that Nissan has decided not to help on this. I've decided never to do business again with a firm that won't even discuss with me.
