I bought a new '92 Nissan Xterra last August and since then I have had nothing but problems with it. A little time after I purchased it the check engine light came on and was taken in to the shop. They turned the light off and sent me away. Again, a week later it comes on again. Went in and they found the seal to the fuel tank was bad so they had to order the part. A few months down the road from that problem my brakes start grinding. I took it in for routine oil change and asked to have my brakes looked at because they did not feel right. They sent me away saying my brakes are fine. The problem got worse and the car started to drive funny with a noise coming from the back of the vehicle like the tires were going to fall off. I took it in again and they sent me away. On my way home I knew something was wrong so I called them the same day and the service desk person was extremely rude and tried to tell me the brakes are fine and the type of brakes my car has have a lot of metal. I didn't believe that so I told her I was going to take it somewhere else and Nissan was going to pay for it. Well then she passes me off to someone else and he also tries to tell me the brakes are fine and nothing is wrong with my car and they should sound like that. Well, that night it got to the point I was scared to drive it because every time I would brake they would grind as they would if the roads were wet and the ABS kicks in. The next morning on my way in to work the ABS light comes on. I call Nissan immediately and he asked me to drop it off to them. I took in. I get a call that night saying the bearings are bad and the car is too dangerous to drive. I told them I took it in two times for the same problem and they kept sending me away. He said "I hate to say it was an oversight on our part". So he had to order parts. I did some research on my own about the bearings and if there were any other complaints. I found that there was a recall on my vehicle for this problem. I went to the Bel Air Nissan and asked if there was and they looked it up and said "yes, it is a good thing you found that". It is not my job to find that stuff out. So the third day in the shop i call and they say the parts are in and they are working on it. I didn't hear from them so I called 8:15pm to find out the wrong part came in (axle) and that they need to order the right one and the part wouldn't be in until Monday. So by then they would have had my car for 8 days. My father called my sales rep and she was very helpful. She got them to call around and they found the part in Washington, DC so they said someone would drive down Friday morning and I would have my car that day. Why couldn't they do that from the beginning? Not once did they call me to tell me what was going on with my car. They promised a free gas fill up and they would clean the inside and out of my car. I picked up the car and there was no gas in it and they only cleaned the outside. I went back in to ask why no gas was put in and they said they were not allowed because they wanted to make sure they had enough for the trucks because of the snow. That just about did it for me. I just found out there is another recall on my car for the fuel throttle and again no notices. Notices should have been sent out Jan 15th and I haven't received any. A six-month-old car should not be having all these problems. My life was in danger. The tires could have fallen off the vehicle and what would they have said, "sorry we overlooked the problem".
