Romero Motors
Ontario, CA

Diane of Montclair, CA, writes:

Although Hyundai has had a poor reputation in the past, I decided to give their new product/warranty a try. On 12/9/99, I visited Romero Motors with intention to purchase a new Elantra. After haggling for two hours, we agreed on a specific payment arrangement. I verified this agreement with them three separate times during our discussion. And both the Salesman (Victor) and manager (Jeff) agreed to honor this deal. Also, right before signing I verified the deal again.

Since then, the deal has not been honored and the dealership is expecting me to make a payment approximately 1.5 higher than we agreed upon. This is poor and terrible business ethics.

I contacted the dealership and the General Sales Manager (Brian), stated basically, "Were you stupid enough not to read the contract COMPLETELY?"

I was appalled and disgusted by his lack of concern or initiative to take action on honoring their agreement. I will have to suffer by borrowing money from a family member. If intially the agreement were to be kept, I would have another paycheck available to me. This is unfair and unjust.

Diane's complaint is not very specific, but she's right about one thing: a smart person ignores what the salesman says and reads the contract carefully, completely BEFORE signing it.

Buy in haste, repent in leisure.
