NHTSA Ends Toyota Tacoma Investigation
Toyota Resists Possible Tacoma Recall

The Tacoma is putting a big dent in American automakers' truck sales but it's also putting a big ugly dent in Toyota's reputation for quality, reliability and service. The trucks are plagued by engine and transmission problems as well as an assortment of defects and quirks that we don't usually associate with Japanese cars and trucks.

Here are some of the more recent complaints:

I own a 2000 toyota tacoma 4x4 in really nice shape, but lately i have had rattle problems when i set it up to 4x4 due to the winter times in Colorado. Well long story short... After reading all about this recalls on The toyota Tacoma's I wonder if I should send i t for a rust test, Where do I find a rust test for free? Toyota Dealership? How do I claim or check for the recall?

I bought a 1998 Toyota tacoma, xtra cab, 4x4 new. After 10.5 years and 180,000 miles, I turned it in as part of the buy back. The experience was terrific! Toyota had me a check and I had a new vehicle in less than 2 weeks! I wonder of some of the bad experiences are caused by the dealerships or the regional representatives people are dealing with.

While I was shocked Toyota had the problem with the frame, I was/am very impressed that they so willingly took my truck back. I am now the proud owner of a 2009 Tacoma double cab 4x4. Time will tell if this vehicle is as good as my two previuous toyotas. Sorry to hear of peoples bad experiences.

I am agreeing with the Blogs about the unfair practice of Toyota in the recall of my 2002 Toyota Tacoma. It has been more than two months and my issue is not resolved. They are offering a frame replacement...don't know when..I find this unacceptable since this devalues my truck. I am unable to trade because am in limbo. Toyota has proven to be one of the usual auto manufactures in its disregard for its customers. I have contacted the DOT and my state Attorney General. They said that everyone needs to do this. I am ready for a class action suit. They at least took care of customers with earlier recalled vehicles..but we are paying the price for shoddy frame steel and their good name is now mud in my eyes. Toyota, main office in California, has been of no value and they wlll not bend in solving this problem.

I have a toyota camry that i wanted to trade in, It is 10 years old.Could not because of limbo with the tocoma. Now i have put more than 500.00 into it and have a rejection sticker because of failed computer problems.. which now will cost me 1600.0 to fix. There is no recourse except to give Toyota the bad publicity it deserves. and to join with others with a class action suit. i also plan on calling my state senator and a lawyer for lemon laws. and the newspaper and television. We have no idea how to fix this other joing with others.

The throttle sensor and throttle body actuator motor failed and had to be replaced in a 2003 Tacoma after only 40,000 miles. The cost of the replacement unit was 1100, with labor a total of 1700. This is a significant failure in a supposedly reliable vehicle at extremely low mileage. Experience with several toyota trucks over the years seems the indicate the quality of the company's products has been decreasing rapidly over the past decade. After being a toyota customer for the past 20 years, I will not purchase a toyota product again.

Lindsey of Lowell, MI December 5, 2008

Lindsey of Lowell MI (12/05/08)
I took my Toyota Tacoma in for the free rust inspection. It had significant rust and I was told that it qualified for the buy back. A few days later I recieved a call that they were denying the buy back as carfax showed that there was a total loss reported in 2005. The title is not a salvage title! In that report it states that at the time of the accident a frame check was done and there was no frame damage. In other words the rust in the frame is clearly a manufacturing issue. Then they gave me the truck back with two large wholes in the frame that had been created during the inspection and are refusing to fix them.

My truck in worthless and I have to drive it which is dangerouse (due to rust in the frame) because I cannot afford a new vehicle and this one will not sell with rust and wholes in the frame.
