I have a 1999 Toyota Camry V6 engine that seemed to be burning oil. The people at the dearlership looked at my care and said they thought the engine had sledge in it. I was not told this was a problem with certain toyotas and there had been a recall for this. I was then told it would cost about 5000.to 6000. to fix and questioned me about oil changes, which were done appropriately. I was told that even if they fixed the car, something would go wrong with the care later. Then I was encouraged to look for a car to purchase. I looked some and then declined on purchasing a vehicle at this time. Then took the car to be fixed at an automotive and the guy then told me about the problems associated with my car. I then went to another toyota dealership and they cked with the warranty people and was told my car was not under warranty anymore. I bought this car in 2004. The warranty people said the 1999 vehicle was bought in 1998 by the original purchaser. It looks like I am out of the 8year warranty time.The car has just over 72,000 miles on it. I think Toyota should stand behind any defects in their vehicles regardless of time limit. Especially considering I had no knowledge of this problem previously. Is there any chance of getting the repairs paid for by Toyota? Even maybe a partial payment from Toyota for fixing this vehicle? Would appreciate your review of this situation and advice.
