Purchased a 2002 Volkswagen beetle 5 years ago and it has been nothing but problems... the money pit from hell. First of all I had a system in the car that malfunctioned and fried the cars computer which the warrently would not cover= 800. Shortly after the headlight went out=175 and then the EPC light came on and car completely locked up--couldn't drive it, had to get it towed.

My windows have always rolled down like Herbie the love bug and my blinkers just stopped working. For 2 years my coolants lights have went off and the check engine light has been on for 4 years. My exhaust also sounds like an airboat going down the road. Just recently my water pump and thermastat went bad- car overheated=1400, spark plugs and coils fried=270 and 3 weeks later car is back in the shop because the freezer plug is bad=324. Let's just say while my car is being worked on..yet again I will be searching for something else!

So please if your reading- be smart- buy a honda, toyota..etc and remember VW beetles are like paying for parts for a mercedes!

I have had window problems with my 2003 VW New Beetle convertible - passenger window doesn't track properly; driver's rear quarter window would not go up - cost to repair at dealer >700. I have been on many web sites containing at least 25-50 posts from owners with various window problems which VW will not acknowledge.

>700

I purchased a 2006 VW New Beetle TDI new from the dealer just after the warranty expired for milage the transmission went bad and it will cost approx 9000.00 to repair this problem. I have read several cases like this where VW transmissions on new beetles went out just after warranty expired due to milage. VW will not repair any of these cars and will not even diagnose the problem without charging a fortune! Is there any recalls for this problem or class action law suits for this problem?

I have a 2005 VW beetle and I have 84000 miles and I need an entire transmission. Per the dealer's in town they can get me a rebuilt one for 5800.0 or a new one for 6500.00. This is just crazy. I am having to go back to my bank that I have the loan with and borrow more money in order to be able to drive my own car. I have called the dealership and have been given the run around and no help at all from any of the dealers. I requested just to check the car and give me a quote for the repairs and I was quoted 250.00 just to check the car and give a written quote. I asked if that would be deducted from my final bill and I was told no. This is insane that a car cannot go 84000 miles and has to have a new transmission.

I own a 2005 VW Beetle. I have repeatedly complained about transmission problems with the car and the way it drives. VW checked my car out repeatedly and assured me it was ok. Now at 60900 miles (Just out of warrany) my transmission has gone completely out. All estimates to fix the problem are over 6000. I tried to take the car  to discuss the problem but was given the run aroound and wouldnt return multiple voice mails so I ended up taking the car to another shop for another estimate.

In the mean time I contacted VW customer service to speak with a rep. After the regional case manger investigated the case (Erin) stated that because I have taken the vehicle to another shop to have it looked at the problem is all mine. They will not assist me in any way . However they will acknowledge this was an issue before my warranty went out on several occasions.

I am currently left making a car payment for a vehicle that does not run. And repairs I simply can not afford nor should I have to. I have documentation of all complaints to VW.
