I went to the Wards Auto Express at 2626 Colorado Blvd. and
had a brake job done on my Toyota Celica '82. It was a low pedal
problem. I was charged with two receipts the day I went to get
my car -- one totalling 543.91 and another one totalling 181.35.
I went back to report that on New Year's Eve I noticed my brakes
stuck, which understandably hindered my car's mobility. The
following day in the afternoon, I experienced tha same problem.
Thus, on January 5, '00, I took my car to Wards for inspection.
I took in my car in the early morning of January 5, and I advised
them that I would be contacted at my work up to 6 P.M. Upon
reaching my house that night I immediately called their shop
to inquire about my car. I was told that maybe, I need to replace
the front brake calipers. When I asked them how much it would
cost me. I was by the agent that he has no idea.
The following day, instead of waiting for the shop to call me,
I called them to follow up the matter. Finally, I was told I
have to replace the brake calipers and that each brake caliper
cost about $80. And I need a pair plus the labor and tax would
cost me at least $300. Having, called some of the manufacturers
that carry the part needed, I had known that each would cost
me about $31 each, lifetime warranty. And a legitimate mechanic
nearby offered to install the calipers for $50.
Therefore, with the obvious savings, I declined Wards offer.
However, I went back to Wards because the mechanic who installed
the calipers said that maybe there is something wrong aside
from the calipers, thus, there is always the chance that my
brakes will freeze.
Back to the Wards, I told Wards if they could inspect my car
further. But a certain Danny said at first that the parts I
was showing was not installed by their shop. I told him, the
part (master cylinder) may not be in my receipt but they could
check their computers for a more detailed breakdown on what
was done with my car.
To make it brief, I honestly felt that they are not acting in
the professional way that they should in handling my situation.
A final valid proof of the shop's indifference is that they
have not delivered on their promise to call me about a part
(brake metering valve) that may be causing my problems.
It has been two days since I had visited their shop and nobody
has contacted me yet. Unfortunately, I own only this one car
which exacerbate the problem. Fortunately, roadtesting this
car since the caliper replacement, I have not had the same brake
problems yet.
But I just want to complain about the Wards very poor handling
of my problem. Thank you. I just have this car serving a daughter,
a son and a grandson.
