I purchased a Canon Pixma MP210 from Staples with a 10.00 rebate coupon. I sent in the rebate receipt that Staples gives out with the purchase and cut the UPC off the box and mailed everything in as instructed. I received notice that my rebate was rejected because the UPC proof of purchase was not included with the rebate request. From reading others with the same experience, I am very disgusted with Canon's rebate promises and feel something sinister is going on.

I sent in a rebate to Canon for 5, with all the required documents. I received an email and postcard stating I did not send in the UPC. That is a lie. Unfortunately I did not make copies of all the paperwork I sent in. I believe there is a scam going on at Canon and I hope other people don't fall for this scam. I would not purchase a Canon product that has any rebate, ask the retailer to reduce the price because there is a good chance you won't see it.

It's only 5 but really stupid of them because I was going to purchase a Camera for 600+. Now I am forced to look at another camera. I can't do business with a dishonest company.

On February 18, 2008 I bought a free canon mp210 all-in-one printer with 2 different mail rebates. One is 50 and other is 20 rebate. Recently I got a card in the mail that told me Canon didn't accept my 50 rebate offer because I did not buy any PC OR LAPTOP. But Fry's Electronics store honors that rebate when you just buy a LCD MONITOR.

I just feel very disappoint for the Fry's Electronics store and Canon printer. Please tell them do not lie to the consumer for the free rebates.

I purchased a Canon PIXMA MP210 with a rebate offer. Canon refused my rebate saying I didn't return the UPC symbol. I returned every barcode on the box. I also kept a copy of everything I sent. They received the UPC symbol. I also have the unopened product which I plan on returning for a full refund. There's a scam going on and it's hurting Canon and the merchants selling their products.

I purchased a Canon camera and got a printer with it for free. The two articles provided for a 100 rebate in total. The purchase was made at Staples. I received an email notifying me that I had not returned the application with the proof of purchase seals from the boxes. I returned to Staples with the two boxes showing that the codes had been cut from the boxes. Staples filed a request with its home office to address the situation.

I then forwarded a consumer protection letter to Canon under Massachusetts law (chapter 93A of Mass General Laws) and received both 50 rebates within less than a week. I highly recommend checking with your state about consumer protection statutes that you can use to push Canon to live up to its end of the bargain.

Canon has set up their rebate system to cheat consumers out of what is promised to them. Basically we bought a printer that had a 50 dollar rebate. The printer was the Canon Pixma ip1800 printer. Its a 50 dollar printer that many stores (Fry's) sell with a 50 dollar rebate. If you get the print home and fill out the rebate you will notice not one, but up to 4 UPCs on the box. Well, if you don't send the right UPC to canon they will deny you your rebate. Somehow, there are four items on the package that are called Proof of Purchase but not all proofs of purchase are considered equal by Canon; if you do not send proof of purchase #1 you are denied. Canon provides these proofs of purchase but designed their process to be difficult and confusing. This is clearly a shady tactic to get people to buy their printers. The only way to rectify the problem is to send them the UPC they want. If I had room to store a large printer box for several months just in case Canon is shady then I might be able to solve the solution, but really Canon is a horrible corporation. Not only that they do not provide any available means of complaining to them via their websites. Furthermore, this printer broke within 2 weeks of very low usage. A crappy product they can only sell with a shady deal.

I lost 50 dollars.

I purchased a Canon Powershot A720IS on Amazon.com on Nov. 27, 2007 and was given forms for a 50 rebate, which I submitted Dec. 3, 2007. I sent in everything that was requested and was then notified that my request was denied because I didn't include the upc label off of the box, which was an outright lie. I contacted them several times. I sent them the photos of the rebate form with the UPC attached, a picture of the box with the cutout upc. I haven't heard from them. Just how many persons did this happen to?

It would be quite easy for someone to steal the UPC and use it to get my UPC; sounds to me like a big scam. Is this what happened? Another question: Why isn't someone responding to my requests? Is the person getting these complaints the person who took my UPC? Just what is happening at this Canon rebate center? My next step is to contact someone high up outside the rebate center and see their reaction to this problem. My feelings for Canon now are: I will never buy another one of their products.

Is there a class action going on with this? I know there has to be quite a few persons that this happened to. I would like the 50 I'm due.

I submitted 2 rebates on a free printer that I bought in conjunction with the purchase of a Canon camera. There was the initial 50 rebate...which I did receive and a secondary rebate of 20 that I have emailed and sent info on numerous times to simply be denied over and over. The most recent email received from Canon customer service was: ----- Original Message ----- From: John L 9017 Sent: Wednesday, February 06, 2008 3:50 PM Subject: Re: STAPLES CANON Inquiry Dear Canon Consumer: Thank you for contacting Canon USA. This was received in response to an email sent on 1/15.

So that took them 3 weeks. I''m out a 20 rebate--repeatedly denied regardless of information sent.

On 10/07 I purchased a Canon Powershot at Staples and was given forms for a 50 rebate. I sent in everything that was requested and was then notified that my request was denied because I didn't include the upc label off of the box. I contacted them several times and told them I could even send them photos of the box with the upc missing off the side.

I was later contacted by a Canon rep who at first seemed quite helpful. She told me to send copies of the owners manual and that should be enough to get my rebate. I did everything she requested only to later receive yet another postcard stating that my rebate was denied.

I am totally disgusted with this company. I used to like Canon products but now I am stuck with a camera that I don't even like and I'm out my 50 rebate.

Dan of Haddam, CT December 13, 2007

I purchased a Linksys router which came with a promotion for a PIXMA IP1800 photo printer with a 50 rebate making the printer free. The promotion asked for a copy of the receipt, the primary UPC code and their rebate form. The box does not have a primary UPC code so I sent the secondary UPC which had the same numbers they asked for. I later received a card from Canon stating that "The receipt you submitted was dated after the qualifying period for this promotion; Secondary proof of purchase submitted. The primary proof of purchase is required for this promotion is required." They were wrong about the first comment as I sent them the e-mail receipt with the date clearly circled. (and I have copies of this document) As for the primary proof of purchase, there is no primary proof of purchase. I have the box next to me and it has a cut out section where I removed the secondary proof of purchase and there is a third proof of purchase. Am I missing something?

These folks are asking for something that is not even on the box and using this to not pay the rebate. I am now wondering if this is a scam. I used to trust Canon as a retailer, but I will no longer do business with these folks. They have not even responded to my inquiries I sent on their customer service website. I would stay away from Canon rebates!

I ended up buying a printer I really didn't need expecting to receive the 50 rebate. Now I have a printer and no rebate....
