NJ Reaches Settlement with Samsung
Samsung Agrees to Pay Denied Rebates

Grendl of Woodland Hills, CA September 28, 2009

I purchased a Samsung S730 camera new. Within two months it stopped working. I returned it and it was repaired and returned to me. 7 months later, it stopped working again. I returned it and received a letter stating that the camera had "severe liquid or impact damage" and couldn't be repaired. This is false. The camera was never dropped or exposed to liquid. I have lost the value of the use of a $200 camera because Samsung does not stand behind their shoddy products.

Henry of Red Deer, AB March 5, 2009

Regular use of this device will void your warranty. My Samsung I85 digital camera began having white spots on the photos. These spots appeared in many photo's ruining them. Cleaning the outside lens did not solve the problem. I contacted Samsung Canada and followed their instructions for warranty service. I supplied my original receipt along with a description of the problem and couriered the camera to their authorized repair shop.

Nearly a month went by before I inquired as to when my camera was to be returned. I was told by the repair shop that Samsung declined warranty work because the serial # on the camera was rubbed off. No one called me to tell me this. I contacted Samsung Customer Service and was told they would not honor their warranty and that I must pay to have the camera shipped back to me at my own expense. My complaint is the serial # is printed in INK on a STICKER attached to the bottom of the camera. The sticker is still there but the ink did not hold up to normal usage of the device.

The camera is also an MP3 player and video player. Besides taking photos I would carry it around and listen to music. I was told by Samsung customer service that many Samsung MP3 player customers are also denied warranty work because the serial number gets rubbed off during normal usage of their devices. Nowhere in the manual does it warn, Regular use of this device will void your warranty. or When holding your new I85 camera, do not ever touch the bottom of it because the ink on the serial # will rub off and we will not be obligated to honor our warranty to you our loyal customer.

Because Samsung states in their online warranty that the serial # must be present on the device to get it repaired under warranty and because said serial number is printed in ink that does not hold up to normal usage, I through no fault of my own, am left with a camera which was purchased NEW less than a year ago and has no warranty that Samsung will honor. Also, I have to pay $$ to have broken camera returned to me. I would have been better off financially not even trying to get it repaired by Samsung. My camera which I loved taking pictures with will forever remind me with white spots in the photos of how one of the largest electronics manufacturers in the world saves a few bucks by ripping off their customers.

Bought a Digimax S500 camera 1/3/07. Have the original reciept. Camera started malfunctioning after 4th month! Shutter would not open/close. Also would turn on and turn right back off with a few annoying beeps.

While still under warranty I called and had to pay to ship it to the service center. It took about 1-1/2 weeks for the repair. I received a letter from the President Yoon Park stating how sorry they were and if I had any more problems don't hesitate to contact them again.

Well ofcourse it worked for awhile but after that, i just didn't need to use it so I had it in the box.I just left it alone until it was time for my granddaughters'prom. I thought about my camera but by then the warranty had expired 1-0! I knew i was probably screwed! I called Samsung anyway and the rep. told me that they didn't even have a previous record of me sending it in for the first repair and ofcourse I have the letter from the president with no date. She then said, even so, after that repair there was only a 6mos.warranty period. I would now have to send it to the service center and pay $58.75 plus s/h! I used to love samsung but I will NEVER buy another Samsung product!
