Techondigital.com

Heidi of Oakfield, WI April 27, 2009

I ordered a video camera from techondigital for what I thought was a great price until a representative called and talked me into buying a warranty, battery and charger for more than what it would cost if I went somewhere else. I was also promised a full-sized tri-pod and a video camera case.

I received a table top sized tri-pod and a case that was defective. I contacted techondigital.com and a representative advised that he would send me the full-sized tri-pod and a new case. I also complained about the price of the battery and charger. The representative advised that he would add to the warranty I received. I never heard from techondigital again.

Now, when searching for their site online I come up with numerous complaints from various consumers who have also had the same experience with techondigital. I would like to file an official complaint and receive some type of compensation for this "scam". Thank you for your consideration.

As mentioned in previous complaints, they do sucker you into a sales pitch to buy additional equipment. However, I was prepared for this since saying no a few times is worth saving 60. What they don't tell you is that the camera is so cheap because it is the grey versions and all of the menus are in Japanese. I immediately cancelled my order upon hearing this and before I could ask for a confirmation number they hung up on me. I am very surprised this company has yet to be sued or closed down.

Great price on the web. I ordered the camera A couple of days later, I was called with a 'concern' that I didn't have enough supporting equipment. Concern soon became a hard sell. Hard sell became abuse. These people are at least aggressive, possibly criminal and potentially downright insane. Beware

Oct. 3, 2008 I ordered online a Garmin nuvi 650, paying with a M/C for 159.00. Received an email with instructions to call 1-877 to confirm order ASAP and Order ID. I called the number and William could not speak clear English, but was pushy about a memeory card which I told him I already had. Then he told me that the installed maps were 2005 vintage, and would that he would sell me the Garmin update maps for 2008 and also 2009 for 70.00.

However, the email invoce shows an 8.49 shipping fee which must have been obsorbed into the 70.00 figure, which made a total of 229.00 on my CC. To this, I agreed, but have not yet been able to update the maps without paying Garmin their fee. I've not pursued a refund which I consider totally futile. I did receive the Garmin and it works OK, and I still have the printed email and online order printout. The CC charge was from Camera Wiz, Inc. Once bit, but not twice!

This experience does irritate me immensely; enough so to register this complain with the Missouri Attorney General's office. Insofar as damages are concerned, only the 70.00 theft.

I made an online camera order (Canon Powershot SD 880IS) advertised for 179.99 + shipping. I did not order anything else-just the camera. On the website, the item was stated as being In Stock. When I placed the order (meaning gave all of my credit card information including the security code from the back of the card), I received 3 email messages. The first was a confirmation/receipt for my order (total 187.49). The 2nd was a notice with a phone number and extension asking me to call to confirm my order.

Then a few seconds later, as I was in the process of dialing the above number, I received another email stating my order has been cancelled because it was now suddenly out of stock. It stated I would receive an email in 6-8 weeks when and if it comes back in stock. I had the feeling that this all seemed quite fishy, so today I called to try to purchase the camera via phone order. This time, they attempted to sell me multiple very expensive items to go with the camera (extra SD card, extra battery-all totalling over 300!) I was not expecting to spend so much money, so as I began to turn down the offer because I could not afford that much, they started trying to make me a deal to remove shipping costs and even sell me a cheaper camera (lower version of the Canon Powershot). I had done my research on cameras prior to purchasing so I knew the things they were trying to feed were untrue and turned down the offers. At the end, he gave me his extension to call him after I had thought about it more. Not to be insulting, but he sounded like quite the sleezy salesman!

Well, I was smart enough to not take the fishy smelling offer, so there was no damage, however, I think this company needs to be reported as they are pulling a bait and switch and others will fall victim to this. Others may have already been scammed by them. Also, if I had decided to wait the 6-8 weeks for this camera to come back into stock, I might have lost out on other, better deals out there. It seems that this is false advertising also. I mean, they advertised the camera for 179 and said it was in stock on the website ( and it clearly is in stock because on the phone, the salesman was ready and willing to sell me one right then and there!) There should be consequences for this-they should be penalized in some manner. Thank you.

Ordered a camera yesterday online at a great price. Confirmation email said that I needed to call to confirm. When I called, I was pressured to buy a very expensive 5 hour battery that I didn't want. Salesman lied and said that the battery that comes with the camera will only last 20 minutes. He wouldn't sell me the camera at the price listed unless I bought the expensive battery accessory. In my opinion, this company is not one that you should want to do business with.

I placed an on line order on Nov. 17 for a Fujifilm camera S8100 along with two items. The next day I got calls that I had to return to confirm my order. When I reached James he started into a sales pitch that I had to have a special 2gb memory card at the special price of 157.00 for this camera to take over 30 pictures. Then the told me that I had to have some special batteries at 129.00 for four. I told him I did not want either at this time he said the order would come in two packages and would ship next day then. I have yet to see either as of 11/26/2008. I have tryed to contact TechonDigital and they will not answer my Emails and put me on hold when I call and will not return to the phone.

I have had to cancel a credit card to protect my credit

I ordered a garmen gps for 165.00,model 680 on nov 7.Ireceived a email confirming the order and a order number.I was instructed to call them on sunday to confirm my order. I called them on Sunday and they oked the transaction. I gave them my credit card #,then the salesmen tried to sell me a90.00 memory card. After telling him I wasn!t interested he kept lowering the price.I refused and he hung up on me. I waited and called back to see if I was still going to get the gps.I got a different salesmen and tried to lower the price of the card lower.I informed himI wasn't interested.I asked him if they were going to ship the gps and he said yes.On Frtiday the 14 I received a Email informing me they were out of stock for at least 6to 8 weekes and the were cancelling my order.ON Sunday Nov 16 I saw them on web site for 189.00 in stock. They should be turned over to the Attorney generals office

I was going to use it on a trip next week. Now he has my credit card number.

Viewed an excellent price on a panasonic Lumix DMC FZ28 digital camera at techondigital. Price seemed too good to be true so I called and confirmed that the camera was new with a US warranty and they said of course as it was advertised. I ordered online the next day and got an email to confirm my order. When I called I was told I needed these accessories such as memory cards and additional batteries at overinflated prices. When I refused they quickly told me the camera was gray market and had no warranty with a manual written in Japanese.

This was clearly a bait and switch. The web site advertised as brand new with a 1 year warranty. This is not only deceptive but illegal as it was false advertising. How do these companies continue to operate? I will be contacting the state attorneys office in New York and have already filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau Serving Metropolitan New York. I urge all of you who have had the same experience to do the same. Only action on the part of consumers will close down these scam artist businesses!

Ronald of New Kensington, PA November 8, 2008

TechonDIGITAL is a SCAM e-business site. Unfortunately, I did not read the numerous posts of warning by readers prior to attempting to purchase a GARMIN 7200.

An attempt was made to pressure me into purchasing a memory card and an updated map far above market value. I declined both. (I recorded the conversation and will supply it to New York authorities.) The conversation concluded with, Enjoy your Garmin. I thought I would receive it. How naive I was.!!!

Three days later I received this e-mail from TechonDIGITAL canceling my order:We thank you for your order and appreciate you shopping with us . Due to the product you ordered being out of stock for 6-8 weeks from today's date. We regret to inform you that the order is canceled due to the product being on backorder. when or if we get the product again in stock soon will send you an email to place an order please do not resubmit your order again . sorry again and thanks for your understanding .(The poor English and errors in punctuation are TechonDIGITAL's. not mine. What a professional company!!! NOT!!!)

Conclusion: If one does not buy accessories at above-market prices, one will not receive the item. One's order will be canceled. Offering the lowest price is a SCAM to sucker you into their website. Now they have my name, address, telephone number, credit card number, security code number and e-mail address. There are, literally, hundreds of complaints that can be used to litigate this company.
