What is Asurion?

Asurion is a global tech care company that provides insurance and extended warranty plans for phones, electronics and home appliances. These plans are often offered through major wireless carriers and retailers.

The company also provides live tech support for common issues like device setup, troubleshooting and data recovery. In-person repairs are available at more than 700 uBreakiFix locations nationwide.

What does Asurion cover?

Asurion offers three protection plans, including phone protection, Asurion Home+ and Asurion Appliance+.

Asurion phone insurance covers some of the most common issues, including cracked screens, physical damage, mechanical failure, loss and theft.

To enroll in an Asurion phone plan, contact your wireless provider to see if your phone is eligible. You're typically only eligible within the first 30 days of activating or upgrading your phone, and the type of devices that are covered depends on the wireless provider.

Asurion’s Home+ protection plan provides coverage for home’s major electronic devices, including TVs, laptops, tablets, gaming consoles and much more.

This plan covers repairs and replacements for device breakdowns due to normal wear and tear or defective materials, as well as some repairs resulting from accidental damage from handling (ADH). Asurion Home+ Entertainment covers fewer electronics at a lower cost.

Asurion’s Appliance+ plan covers most major appliances, including refrigerators, dishwashers, built-in microwaves, washing machines, dryers and ranges, but does not cover HVAC systems.

How to file a claim with Asurion

Filing a claim with Asurion depends on which of the three plans you have.

Asurion phone insurance claims

To file a claim with Asurion for an issue with your phone, go to the Asurion website and select your wireless carrier and device make/model. Provide a description of what happened, your billing and shipping address, your phone number and a method of payment for the deductible.

After submitting the device claim, you should receive an email with shipping and tracking information for your replacement. You will be notified of the status of your claim and can track the claim online.

Asurion sends out 96% of replacement devices the day after a claim is filed. Asurion usually sends a replacement device with the same make and model, but availability may vary. The company’s representatives may choose an alternative that matches the form and functionality of the lost or damaged device. Your replacement device may be new or refurbished and the color, brand, model and features may differ from your original device.

If you need to cancel a claim, contact Asurion with your claim ID or phone number associated with the device. Most policies allow for a claim to be canceled within a few days.

Note that most carriers limit you to three claims in a 12-month period.

Asurion Home+ claims

You can file a claim with a Home+ plan online. After providing details about the product, the issue and your account information, you’ll receive email updates as the claim is processed.

Asurion Appliance+ claims

To file a claim with an Appliance+ plan, call 855-328-2847. You’ll need to provide your appliance’s serial number. Once your claim is approved, Asurion will schedule an appointment with a local repair technician.

Asurion prices

The Asurion wireless phone protection plan cost starts at $14 per phone per month. The plan cost varies based on the type of device you have and the tier you choose. Asurion offers other services at different price points, including cracked screen repair.

You must pay a deductible before insurance kicks in and pays for a repair or replacement. Our research showed the following deductibles for an iPhone 14 with 256GB of storage:

  • Cracked front screen repair: $0
  • Back glass repair: $0
  • Damage replacement: $99
  • Loss and theft replacement: $229

Note that deductibles vary by provider, phone model and location. Regardless, the deductible is typically far less than the retail price of a new phone, which saves you money in the long run.

Asurion Home+ costs $34.99 per month. If you only need to cover home entertainment, the Home+ Entertainment plan costs $14.99 per month. The service fee for a claim depends on the device:

Asurion Appliance+ costs $34.99 per month. There is a flat service fee of $99 per approved claim.

Does Asurion cover cracked screens?

Yes, Asurion covers cracked screens. Simply file a claim, and once it is confirmed as eligible, you can drop your phone off at an authorized repair dealer, have an expert repair technician come to you or mail your device to Asurion. Cracked phones can typically be repaired in a matter of hours, and authorized service repairs come with a one-year limited repair warranty.

Are Asurion replacement phones refurbished?

Yes, some Asurion replacement phones are refurbished. If you qualify for a replacement phone, it will be either a new phone or a refurbished one.

How do I track my Asurion claim?

You can track your Asurion claim with an easy-to-use tracking feature on the website. You’ll also receive email updates as your claim is processed.

    I think this is definitely worth it overall. Let's just begin with that. So far they have been very fair with me. With every claim, they have gone ahead and approved it. Which I found to be very fair. I did pay for the "Complete protection". Which means any product I purchased on Amazon was & will be covered. So again - Fair. That said, a few times I was put through the "ringer" with requests for images and more images and then the same images were requested again. A bit annoying, but again, at the end they approved it. So I won't ding them for that.

    I, unfortunately, simply always reserve my full stars for Exceptional service and they simply have not met that. I will admit, I am a bit of a hard case, but I think giving away 5 or 10 stars so freely cheapens the top stars for those who truly work for it. Which I won't lie, is very rare. But so far, I will say this - it has been worth it. I truly recommend it. When you buy as much garbage as we do for the kids and of course myself, you can't go wrong with insurance. I was adding manually towards the end to almost every order. So when I saw this, it was a no Brainer.

      This is really an extraordinary program that I am so happy I participate in for the last 2 years. I had a $900 30TB drive die, right after the return period ended - and a delicate DJI Osmo pocket 3 get blown over on a tripod in the wind - and both claims were handled as if it were a TV commercial. Easy claims process, extremely gracious friendly customer service, an instantaneous refund on the external drive - I didn't even have to send it in. They tried for one day to fix the camera that blew over - and then immediately told me that they would not be able to fix it and refunded me the money. You get exactly what you pay for with no fuss and no fine print and no gimmicks. Five star program. Highly recommend.       I ordered golf clubs. While using one of the golf clubs, the head of the club came off! It was scary because the head went zipping through the air and landed out in the distance. I contacted Wilson and explained what happened. The rep said to send pics, so I did. I told the rep that I was no longer comfortable swinging the other golf clubs. Wilson's response was "If he is concerned about the rest of the set, we are more than happy to inspect the other clubs alongside the 7-iron. If you would like to proceed with the replacement of the 7-iron and an inspection of the remaining clubs, please send us a photo of the complete set." So they wanted to inspect the rest of the golf clubs by photo.

      That is when I contacted Asurion. I actually did not purchase the protection on the golf clubs but we did purchase the monthly plan (because we have an Amazon habit). It was covered. It was super easy to get a refund on the golf clubs. When I contacted Asurion, the CSR said we can help with that. He was empathetic and understanding of the complexity of the situation. He understood that there was major doubt with the other clubs because of the 7-iron head flying off. He told me what was going to happen next and the speed of the refund will depend on me (taking pictures, sending receipts). Email confirmation it had been accepted and full refund would be in a gift card after receiving the golf clubs. A different CSR even looked into sending us a box but said he was not able to. The CSRs went above and beyond for me and it is much appreciated. I was so impressed the with the empathy and knowledge of the CSRs.

      There were two associates of Asurion. The name of one of them is May. She was excellent in explaining the process provides in meeting customer needs. May shared information with clarity and guided me through the process as I provided information on my pc. She directed me what I needed to do in order to receive reimbursement. With great patience she led me from step to step toward resolution. She is an associate that hopefully is valued by Asurion. A second associate was likewise in helping me on another day as I connected the new hp printer to my pc. With excellent guidance he led me through many steps in correcting an error I had made. His knowledge and confidence in his directions to me excellent. I regret I never asked for his name. Both associates gave me a sense of being a valued customer. It was easy to trust them. Hopefully he valued associate by Asurion.

      I’ve always enjoyed the warranty program for the last many years. It’s always been very simple and very easy. If your product is broken and not working. Bring a new one into Tractor Supply and show them. They will replace it with a new one. This time around, it was completely different. My 25-gallon spot sprayer had kicked the bucket and no longer working. It was under warranty, so I brought it in.

      I had to get a hold of the warranty company. In which they told me I had to go to the UPS and ship it off to them. I just by chance, for some reason, kept the box. Very few people would keep the box for several years. It’s big and bulky and had to carry it down there. And then had to wait for an e-gift card. I needed the spot for the same day. But that wasn’t the case this time around. It was very frustrating and carrying that into UPS was very frustrating. They always advertise that if it’s broken, bring it in and they’ll get you a new one. Well, that’s not the case.

      I have been using Asurion for more than 15 years and they have been rock solid. Usually get your replacement phone the very next day. Easy. Every time. In addition, I have been super happy with the home electronics protection, if they don't replace it they will fix it, if they can't fix it or replace it, they will pay out your claim and not lowball you.
