AT&T Wireless Leads In Number Portability Problems

Although AT&T Wireless shares the name of its former parent company, it has long since moved out and started life on its own. But even as an independent company, AT&T Wireless displays many of the same traits that have caused its parent to watch its once-massive customer base ever so steadily erode.

You can't say AT&T is no longer innovative. Whereas most cell phone companies insist their contracts run until the moon has turned to dust, AT&T now waits quietly for some favorable contracts to expire so that it can hit customers with the highest rates imaginable. Don't laugh, it happened to Alina.

This is my 3rd time I still have not received my deposit back of 150 No one has contacted me by phone or mail. I was told that someone else has my old phone number. Can you research this so I can get my 150 back. I have all my receipts if you need to review them.

On my travel to India last month, I elected to take service from ATT to use my wireless. I contacted the International department twice and waited 45 min to complete my request and was told by both individual that my monthly service would be 5.99 to use my phone to contact USA and call would be 0.35 to 0.49 cents. If I did not take this monthly service it would be 1.99. Hence I did. On my return I received a bill for 2.29/min and an outrageous bill. I contacted ATT and the manager indicated that was the price that was quoted to me. I requested a transcript/recording of the call, but she indicated that call are not recorded and only that I requested the service was documented and I would not be given this information. I am very angry as the bill is more than the cost of my travel.

Tonight I went to one of your offices to transfer the service on the remaining wireless in my name and after over 1 hour in the office, I was finally told I would have to call customer service. The person who was going to take the rest of the contract ran out of patience with your system and no longer wants the phone. I need to know what it takes to cancel the service as ATT cannot provide good service on the phone or in their offices. Two attempts to send email. Both rejected.

They mad a mistake on the billing and billed me for the wrong accounts. They have now sent me to collections and my credit is being affected. I will provide account numbers if needed.

Anna of Bakersfield, CA July 28, 2009

I bought the phone in 10/08 I took it in to the store and they can't order me a battery from the store. So I called the 800 number two times and they said they were out of the battery and then I called Pantech (maker of the phone) and they said they didn't have any batteries either.

So, who honors my warranty? Att Mobility won't and I want to know why they can sell a product and it be under a year's warranty when in fact it's not worth a tinkers dam. People need to know how to deal with companies that don't back up their products. Thank you for letting me vent. I had a stroke last week and I need a cell phone on me at all times. Now it looks like I have to go buy a new phone and go through the whole mess again, because my phone battery won't hold a charge. Very depressing.

RISHI of DAVENPORT, FL July 19, 2009

I have been a valued Cingular/AT&T wireless customer well over 10 years. I recently upgraded my cellular phone on April 17th on one of my lines. I purchased a Samsung Eternity from Best Buy after about 4 years with the same phone I decided to get another phone so I signed a 2 year agreement. The phone has been giving me nonstop problems after about 30 days of Use.

The phone would constantly Jam up, as in crashing/freezing like a regular PC computer does. I would constantly get dropped calls, I cannot get Internet access 50% of the time. I called AT&T about this and they told me the SIM card was damaged, so I replaced the SIM card. The problem still was not fixed. The next thing AT&T business cars told me was that my phone was bad, so they replaced it with a refurbished unit in late May Early June. Again the same had the same problems, jamming up, no Internet access, dropped calls.

I have then contacted AT&T more than 10 times after with no resolution. I spoke to the manager of the customer care units at AT& T named Tasha. First off she was very Rude and told me that I was stuck with a 2 year contract with a phone that does not work. Then she offered me a 25 service credit on my bill, my question is what is 25 going to do if the phone is not working>?

She told me she would keep sending me refurbished phones but that was it. I DO NOT WANT A REFURBISHED PHONE. I am being screwed every way here and after 10 years of service with Cingular/ATT wireless I am being treated unjust. I want a brand new phone but am being charged an early upgrade fee of 200. my questions is IF THE PHONE THAT I WAS PROVIDED BY AT&T IS BROKEN AND DOES NOT WORK AND DOES NOT SUIT MY NEEDS, WHY DO I HAVE TO KEEP ITY AND FURTHERMORE WHY AM I BEING CHARGED 200 TO UPGRADE TO ANOTHER PHONE.

I am tired of dealing with this issue so I am writing to higher management. I have been with you guys for over 10 years and am looking into switching over to a new phone company very soon. Please look into this matter and see if a resolution can be made. I am looking to purchase the new I phone but not at a 200 additional upgrade fee.

I always wondered why people are always changing their wireless phone services...NOW I KNOW...I asked to have my phones NOT to have any web access from any of my phones in Feb 09...but was never warned about monthly subscriptions, which could have been cancelled at that time...now 5 months later they offer to have them removed...I paid any past due amounts for that period...yet I still get stuck with reinstatment fees...AT&T is nickel and diming me into POVERTY...I look forward to Apr 2010...END OF CONTRACT...GOODBYE AT&T...From a loyal, PAYING customer of over 10 years

Neelu of Maple Valley, WA July 24, 2009

AT&T has been sending us debt collection notices for bills that are not due yet. Notice received on the 24th and 26th are for an invoice due on the 27th of July and payment has already been made. We spoke to various people in AT&T that said agreed that it was an error but could do nothing about the debt collection notice not confirm if it cause problems with our credit.

Karen of Mabelvale, AR July 24, 2009

Samsung Propel cellphone wasn't working properly and called to get replacement. Customer Service rep said because the water damage sticker was pink that it wouldn't be covered under warranty. THis phone has not been exposed to any direct moisture, only daily use under normal conditions. We also have a motorola phone from AT&T and LG from Alltel. THese phones are used under the same conditions as Samsung Propel. THe difference in these phones is water damage sticker is UNDER battery compartment, as opposed to the Samsung Propel, which has the sticker on top of back of phone right under battery cover. THis a design flaw that needs to be aaddressed. CHecking online, about this phon, there are similar complaints about this particular cell phone. AT&T has this(locked) phone made by Samsung Corp.
