Dell Talks Back

We are awash in complaints about unpaid Dell rebates. The complaints below represent just a tiny fraction of the megabytes of complaints we've received over the last few years. There is no sign the situation is improving, so buyer beware!

Anyone with a similar complaint should do the following:

  • File a complaint with us; complaints to our site often lead to class action lawsuits which penalize offenders and get at least some recompense for consumers.
  • File a copy of the complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, which prosecutes violators;
  • File a copy of the complaint with your state's attorney general. You can find the address in our Resource Directory.

After being totally unable to contace the Dell Rebate deprtment I finally got a Senior Dell customer service specialist. After three months, no rebate,no way to follow up. This drags on and on, everyone passing the buck, and ultimately Dell is not paying the rebate due. They sent out postcards saying the order number was not valid, yet the initial email from the rebate department has the proper order number; so does customer service.

This is a "wear down the little guy" tactic, clear and simple.  This is a disgrace, and about lots more than the 100 Dell owes me. Your site lists example after example of Dell's sloppy, cavalier and perhaps intentionally devious rebate practices.

I filled out Dell's online form to configure a new computer, including signing up for Verizon DSL with a 75 rebate. The monthly fee for service was 3 higher than available straight from Verizon, but with the rebate I thought it was worth it.

I called two days later to see why the Verizon DSL rebate was not listed on my order.  Noone could tell me anything about a rebate and said it didn't exist! I have spent 8-3/4 hours on the phone, was promised a 100 coupon to buy merchandise TWICE, and have received nothing.

Like others, the Dell Rebate Center shows I have the coupon, but I can't get it. I really don't want the coupon, I want the 75 cash that the rebate promised on the order page.  Customer service says they have never heard of the rebate - call Verizon!

Shame on Dell for advertising rebates they do not follow through on, and for having such a shabby system that sends customers in circles.

On 8/1/06 I purchased an Inspiron E1505 Notebook with all the bells and whistles for my freshman college bound daughter. I was sold in part due to an instant rebate of 100 in addition to two other rebates totaling 250. I was told it was quick and simple to get my rebate by simply making an online submission. The telesales contact tauted the ease of Dell's online submission capability. However, the truth is, after diligently compiling all pertinent documentation with order numbers, customers numbers, tracking number, etc., the frickin system either states your submission didn't work because the rebate system is down for maintenance, OR their system has no record of your rebate submission. I've NEVER BEEN SO ANGRY!!! Customer service isn't cooperative and never has a record of what you've ordered. Customer Service can't or won't help. I've had it!! We have 4 dell computers all purchased within the past 2 years -- NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!

Dell's sales team shouldn't entice potential buyers with rebates the consumer is not going to receive. I was told I should have the back in time before the first payment is due -- NOT!!! I'm on a mission. I'm going to give 'em hell until I get what I'm entitled to. Michael Dell and his Board of Directors should be ashamed!!!!!!!!!!

I have not received my 75 rebate for signing up for Verizon DSL through Dell. The rebate form was mailed 6/30/06. I passed on a lower monthly price for the same service direcrtly from Verizon.

Not only did I not receive the 75 rebate, it's costing me an additional 30-35 a year because I'm paying a higher monthly fee than I would have.

I have not recieved my 250 rebate after over 6 months. I bought my computer in March 2006. I have sent countless letters. Each time,they say they have sent it, but it must have been 'lost' in the mail. Then I have to 'reconfirm' my address, which I do each time. Then they have to cancel the orginal check and re-issue another one, which takes 6 to 8 weeks they claim.
