Dell Talks Back

We are awash in complaints about unpaid Dell rebates. The complaints below represent just a tiny fraction of the megabytes of complaints we've received over the last few years. There is no sign the situation is improving, so buyer beware!

Anyone with a similar complaint should do the following:

  • File a complaint with us; complaints to our site often lead to class action lawsuits which penalize offenders and get at least some recompense for consumers.
  • File a copy of the complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, which prosecutes violators;
  • File a copy of the complaint with your state's attorney general. You can find the address in our Resource Directory.

Got a new Dell; couldn't even get a rebate form out of them for it;(we couldn't download the one they said they e-mailed) talked to 4 different customer service people; told all of them we wanted the form re-sent. Also, told everyone we talked to that we were not going to be using the McAfee service and wanted a credit for the 87 charge. CS rep said she would send a return authorization for the disc; that never showed up either. Since we got our first bill today, I can tell there has been no credit, and time has expired on the return policy and the rebate policy.

As near as I can tell, we are out 87 for the McAfee and 130 in rebates. I e-mailed our sales rep's boss today though my experience has been that all I will see is 3 more e-mails assigning case numbers, but no results.

My order with dell computer when I purchased my laptop included a 150.00 rebate. I have not been able to claim my rebate nor have I received any help in getting my rebate. I have not received my 150.00 rebate nor have I been credited the 150.00 on my account with dell

I bought a Dell DJ mp3 player, influenced in my decision by a 50 rebate. I filed the rebate, in Nov 05 and its receipt was acknowledge in an email in early Apr 06.

A few days later I received an email that said Dell had no record of my purchase. I checked with customer service, who confirmed that they had a record of my purchase, but they had no record of my rebate!! I have exchanged many emails with customer service but now I don't get replies from Dell when I email.

It's just 50, but heck, it's MY 50!

I bought a desktop and a laptop within two weeks of each other. The desktop was advertised with a 100 rebate. I submitted the necessary paperwork for the rebate.

Later in the mail, I received a postcard indicating that they needed my order number. I wrote the order number on the postcard and mailed it back to the address that they indicated on the postcard. Several months later, I contacted customer service on the Dell website and they said would expediate my rebate.

I waited a few more weeks and contacted Dell by email asking where my rebate was.  I was told that I was not entitled to a rebate. I tsaid I thought that was fraud.

I had to borrow money just to be able to pay the amount that I owed for the computers.

I got my Dell computer for Christmas 2005. I sent in my rebate form in January of 2006. I continued to track my rebate on the Dell website. In April I received an email from them saying my rebate check had been sent and please cash it or if I have not received to please let them know. I called and spoke with someone and he said he did not have my P.O. Box. This was supposed to be taken care of in May, here it is 6/9/06 and I have not heard a word.
