FTC Sues CompuCredit
Aspire Visa to Pay $11 Million to New York Consumers
Consumer Complaints

Marilyn of Chicago , IL June 17, 2009

I have an account with Aspire Visa...They closed my acct. for no reason other than I was led to believe that they went out of business..And now I can't get anywhere with them..I make my payments on time and now I seen that my balance has gone up instead of down..I mailed off my payment to them instead of paying online because they jacked on a fee now to pay online..They have yet to cash my check for my last payment.

Karen of Elk Grove, CA June 9, 2009

I had this account for at least a couple of years without any late payments, always paying more than what was required. Approximately eight months ago I was informed that my account was being closed. I was informed that it was nothing I had done. I was led to believe by the customer service rep that this company was filing bankruptcy. Even though my account has been closed I continue to receive maintenance fees in the amount of 6.50 every month. Upon calling the company to inquire about these fees I could not get an answer. I am also not receiving monthly statements on this account nor is there any information provided on their website. I do believe this company is frauding the account holders and something needs to be done about them ripping off innocent people.

open the credit card account in 2003 with a promised credit limit of 300 when I received the card 179 dollars was charged for enrollment and another charge was taken out. I had a credit balance of only 75.00. I called the customer service to see what was going on and she said those where charges for membership fee and processing fee. I received a letter from a collection agency stating that I owe Aspire 1500. The is complete fraud and illegal buisness practices. I looked at my credit report and it showed that I opened the account in 2005 which isn't true and how can that balance be so high from a 75 limit? after those fees that they automatically took out? Please help! they are completely ripping me off and destroyin my credit history.

I have had this credit card for about 3 years. About 5 months ago, they closed my account and was told they were going out of business. I made the final payment on-time and that was it. Nowq they are saying I owe them 3.54. I have tried to resolve this with them directly but keep getting the run around. They will not re-open my account. I would pay th 3.54 because it is such a small amount but I honestly don't owe it. Also, this was a secure credit card; shouldn't I receive my security back? I noticed there are thousands of other consumers who are complaining about this company and their stories are the same as mine. I also noticed that New York City has sued them because of their illegal practices. Why is my credit taking a hit and what do I do to resolve this issue.

I had Aspire Visa problem just like everyone's complain here, and very funny that on Aspire Visa web still no changed showing: Can I use my Aspire Visa® at ATMs? Yes, your Aspire Visa® card can be used at ATMs that accept Visa® credit cards. Please refer to the Terms and Conditions for any fees that may apply.

I have had this credit card for about 3 years and have never made a late payment. About 5 months ago, they closed my account and wouldn't give me an explanation. I have tried to resolve this with them directly but keep getting the run around. Not only did they close my account and I've never been late or over the credit limit, they are STILL charging me the account maintenance fee of 6.50 each month and the annual fee of 50.00!!!!

I noticed there are thousands of other consumers who are complaining about this company and their stories are the same as mine. I also noticed that New York City has sued them because of their illegal practices. Why is my credit taking a hit when I am/was an excellent customer?

Mary of Hamburg, NY May 19, 2009

In 2002 i opened an aspire visa account and when i recieved the card what was supposed to be a 300 balance was only 32. When i called to ask why I wa informed that the rest was charged as my fees for opening the account. i made timely monthly payments and still recieved threats and harrassing notices. 2 months after i recieved my card i received paperwork from a law firm regarding a class action lawsuit aainst aspire due to excessive fees which made my opening available balance less then 50. i signed the paperwork n mailed it back.

i still continued to make payments and 3 weeks later received a check from law firm in the amount that id paid since mailing paperwork back with a notice that we'd won and the account was closed i didnt owe aspire anything and they were returning my payments to me. i thought thats cool. haha.

today i received a phone call from a lawyers office telling me that i owe asipre 1236.70 on an account that was opened in '05. when i explain that it wasnt my account im told if i dont make arrangements they will garnish my wages. i try contacting aspire to find out any information about account that was opened to try to clear up the misunderstanding not only can i not find a number or email address. how can a company not leave any information for customers or potential customers or people trying to rectify misinformation? how is that legal?

Matthew of Bronson, MI May 15, 2009

This company is a complete joke. I got their card 10 years ago and used it casually with no problems for a while. I was always mailing in money orders for my payments. Then out-of-the-blue, they began sending me bills which I sent out a money order the SAME DAY I got the bill, but conveniently, they weren't posting the payments to my account til a week after the due date, which was 3 weeks after I mailed my payment and charging me late fees. I called them up and they would give me stupid answers as if they thought I was an idiot like "i'm sorry sir, we don't have any way to check the status of mail deliveries" or something else insulting. Then I began paying online instead only to find out that they charge you to pay them. That has got to be one of the dumbest things i've EVER heard of.

Then a few months back, I got laid off from my job, so I had no money to give them. I called them up MANY times and explained the situation, hoping for some kind of payment plan that every other company in the world has or a freeze on my account which almost all credit companies have and they're all like a bunch of foreign robots reading off of a script saying nothing more than "i'm really sorry sir, but there is nothing we can do."

My account got a month past-due and I figured maybe that would show them that i'm serious. So I called up again and all they did was say "I can help you, what I can do is collect last month and this month's payments and get you current!," again, as if i'm an idiot. You can barely understand a word they say other than "i'm really sorry sir, there is nothing we can do," they've been very rude, hang up on me whenever I ask to speak to a supervisor and have never once in 10 years helped me with a customer issue. Worst of all *cue the violin*, they're ruining my credit.

I have always in the past paid my bill early and more than the minimum amount due, but in 2006 I came out of work on sick leave due to lung cancer, but with my husbands help still managed to pay my bill. That was until 7 months ago when unfortunatley my husband lost his job. I have been fighting with aspire to get my payments lowered but to no avail, they tell me that they do not have a hardship progam. This company is charging me a rate of 30.00% interest, I even asked them if they will change my due date so that I am not charged a late fee of 35.00 dollars a month they said that they could not do that. It is putting so much stress on me I do not no where to turn for help. Somebody needs to investigate the dealings of this company. It is outrageous that with the economy affecting the nation that they can act in this manner and seem to have no conscience on how they conduct business.

Samantha of Wesley Chapel , FL May 4, 2009

Account closed by the company, our bill was paid every month on time, some months more than the minimum was paid. They jacked up my interest rate to over 25% and still being charged account maintainence fees????Look at most recent statement and they transferred my account without my knowledge or consent but stated under that important news portion of my statement that if we wanted to opt out of this transfer to write and address in GA, I was charged 24.66 for this unathorized transfer as well. There are many complaints about this company surely something can be done.I have no problem paying for the chargeds I accrued but not all these other BS charges. My balance should be going down not up on this closed account!!!!
