Rose of FRANKLIN FURNACE, OH July 15, 2009

In April, 2009, Capitol One sent us blank checks whick we could use against our zero balance of 15,000 with their company. I called to confirm that the checks were correct and was assured by there employee No. L0D909 that if the checks were deposited in my bank by April 24, 2009, they would be honored at 0% for the life of the loan. I wrote the check for 3,000 to pay off the only account on which I had interest charges. About a week after I wrote the check, which they accepted and charged to my account, I received a letter from them stating that the 0% was an error and that it would only be good for six months.

In my opinion since they accepted the check, it formed a bilateral contract between Capitol One and myself and they can not change the terms of the contract as one of the parties. I am informing them that I will not pay any interest on the account, as they legally must honor their offer of 0% for the life of the loan. I have the original offer, copies of my check, deposit slip and communications I have had with them, and intend to stand firm and they can try to sue me for the interest if they choose. Beware of checks from Capitol One, as this is a bait and switch scam. They want to get us obligated and then change the terms to a higher interest rate, and I don't think they can do that in this instance. What do you think?

Eunice of Brownsville , TX July 14, 2009

I went in today Tuesday 7/14/09 to complain why the teller that had done a transaction on 6/25/09 550.00 from my account . Just because she saw my husband Name on it , when he had ask for that from the credit on line account and seeing that my account had a balance of 65.62 and on 7/6/09 I deposited 255.11 so the loan pay't that is deduct on the 15th could be w/drawn they turn around and make him check for 550.00 and that make me over drawn... The point is that if the teller (Monica) saw that is a small amount .. she should say in a nice way I can't release that amount of 550.00 cause your wife's account is going to be overdrawn .. Or is that you make money that way w/ overdrawn charges or what .

I am not saying that they fully in fault , but in this case yes .. But Mr. H respond was since they already know they don't ask for an ID .. My husband does more transactions then I do .. I just deposit in my account and let them w/draw my loan pyt . I don't even order checks for that reason.. But I didn't see an apology from the officer great guy. cause he tryed .. But there was another young lady tryed to help on Saturday 7/11/09 by giving me credit for the charges of overdrawn. But I don't recall her name she did apoloize for the mistake .. And I made my husband to pay that money and now he is w/ out funds himself..but I feel that they need to ask the customer if it is the correct account ..

If this happens again. I am going to try to close my account asap and try to get another bank to pay off my loan...even I pay more interest.. And not put my husband it either . I kept telling H I wanted to take my husband off the account but he didn't try to do it either.. Well I hope you all can take care of this matter in this bank .. I don't want no one fired , but for it be brought to their attention to be more careful in things like...Thaks for your promptness

I have POA for my 84 year old Father-in-law. One day he recieves a bill from Capital One stating he owes money. This upsets him. He has never had a capital One and this is the 1st bill he has ever gotten from them. I call and speak to Robert? won't give me his last name. Has a thick accent that I was having trouble understanding. I told Robert that my father-in-law suffered a stroke many years ago and can't sign his name and has speech aphasia so he can't speak hardly at all.

I tell him this is a fraudulent unauthorized card and it needs to be closed- he says he can't do that that i have to put it in writing. I tell him that he needs to cancel it right away so and eat the charges because this 84 year old man did not & could not have opened this account. He says he can't- he tells me it will show up on my father-in-laws credit report if we don't pay it- Itold him he is 84 years old & not worried about his credit score so its in their best interest to shut down that account as he will not be paying it. He says I have to put it in writing. So I send a letter back with the bill.

Another bill comes, my father-in-law is very upset wants me to take care of it! I send another letter back with the bill. Then I get he gets a letter that gives a time limit and states that I have to send copies of all coorespondence to another address. It is costing us money and much aggravation to write up these letters and stamps . How can they get away with terrorizing an 84 year old WWII veteran!!

Capital One has poor customer service. I am inconvenienced and frustrated by a service I pay for...

Jason of Battleford, SK July 12, 2009

Capital One Mastercard just set me up so that they could charge me a 29.00 Over Limit Fee! They sent me a statement for May 09 and I made my payment and made another payment a couple weeks after that which would have been an extra payment. My statement for June 09 shows up and says that my payment due is 0.00 so I never bothered with another payment in June and planned on making my next payment on July 15, 2009. I just got an email with my latest statement showing that I have a current balance which is 32.49 over limit (this includes their RIDICULOUS 29.00 over limit fee). So they sent me out a statement stating that I owed nothing for that month knowing that they were going to charge me interest that would amount to 3.49 over my limit before my next statement was sent to me.

Basically I feel like they set me up for this so that they could charge me this outrageous amount for an overlimit fee. How can they get away with these kind of tactics of blatantly ripping people off like this? I see all of these complaints about Capital One and their underhanded tactics and ways of scamming people and ripping them off. I thought the government was stepping in to put an end to all of these FEES that the banks and credit card companies are charging the public. Paying monthly fees so that you can access your own money in the bank and use a debit card for purchases. Customer Service has gone to hell everywhere these days!!

Bradon of derwood, MD July 11, 2009

I have never posted a complaint against any company until now. I have taken over my dad's finances, and I have worked out payments with 10 other banks. Capital One is the only one that has refused to help. Although on the billing statements they tell you to call if you need help. I have been told by customer service that they are unable to help me at this time, and that I need to call back in a few days/weeks. Well this has gone on for over 10 months.

I have been making payments on my dad's behalf for the last 6 months, yet this week Capital One called me every day, sometimes twice a day asking for more payments. Again I keep trying to work things out for the last ten months, and the company tells me to call back later because they are unwilling to help. I have never had an issue with any bank like I am having with Capital One.

r of everett, WA July 11, 2009

Capital One jacked my interest rate up too. From 6% to 17%. I have never missed a payment. The employee I spoke to said I recieved a notice in the mail (I did not) and replied "Whatever" when I told her I intended to never use Capital One again for anything. Anyone have a quick list of associated Capital One entities so i can screen them out too.

charles of somers, CT July 11, 2009

I had a so called fixed 8.5 % interest rate with capitol one for quite some time.In june & july I noticed they raised it to an average 23%.I called them and got no satisfaction. They claimed they sent me a letter about the change.I received no such letter.I also send payments every month even when not required.I say again I received no notification of the change.Capitol One is why we need reform in the credit card industry.

Melanie of San Jose, CA July 10, 2009

I discovered an annual fee on my July 2, 2009 statement of 59.00. I called to request that they close the account and remove the membership fee. I also mentioned that I did not want to pay the finance charge on such a high fee and Capital One claimed that although they would remove the membership fee by midnight today, July 10, 2009, they would not remove the finance charge on the fee until the account was fully paid off.
