12 yrs with Capital One and last month they jacked up my interest from 8.2% to over 17%. never missed a payment and this is how they treat me?? I was told they sent out a letter informing customers that they could no longer afford to give the lower interests rates. Bullshit, I never received a letter, and if I did, I would've closed my account then not now. Yes I just closed my account with them!

Victor of Chicago, IL July 10, 2009

on 5/29/2009 i received an offer from Capital One for a balance transfer with 0.000% APR until 5/2010 and 0% transaction fee. i applied and was given a credit line of 15,000. i called them at 866-381-0454 and requested a balance transfer 15,000. prior to completing the transaction the representative confirmed that the balance of 15,000 will carry an APR of 0.000% and there is no transaction fee for this balance transfer. a month later, a finance charge appears on my statement for 94.71 for an APR of 9.9% for a balance of 11,524.70. when i called Capital One, the account manager denied the above t&c and stated that there is nothing she can do. they gave no explanation as to why the figure of 11,524.70 appears on my statement.

this is an example of complete lack of accountability on the part of Capital One.

Connie of Malibu, CA July 10, 2009

I too, noticed on my May statement that my interest rate was increased from 7.9 to 17.9%. I immediately called and was told a letter was sent (BS)--- I would have called then if I had received it. Of course they complemented me on my perfect payment record and long-term association with them but just could not adjust the rate. Interesting item I found out a few weeks later, I received my annual free credit report from Life Lock and guess who ran a credit check on me in April??? you guessed it. My score was 735. I can't believe that in these tough economic times that they are penalizing good customers. Adios Capital One.

Frances of Troy, NY July 10, 2009

I just noticed that my interest rate on my Capital One card went from 9.9% to 17.9%. I called Capital One because apparently it has gone up the past few months. I was told that a February announcement had gone out explaining this increase and that it had nothing to do with my credit rating or history.

I can see if I had a poor payment history but I don't. I think it's unfair for them to raise rates to this extent when that is NOT what I signed up for with this account. I will now try to find the money to pay the card off and CANCEL it !

Edward of Bloomfield Hills, MI July 10, 2009

I disputed a charge of 2315.48. I did not authorize this charge. When I filed a dispute they credited my account for the 2315.48 then they contacted the bank NOT the merchant and found the receipt and reinstated the charge and considered the matter "closed". I had already talked to the merchant, he agreed that the error was at his end and agreed to provide the credit. If they had contacted the merchant, he would have immediately credited the charge. now it is up to me to contact the merchant AGAIN, get him to credit the charge back and then call Capital One and confirm. Next, I either contact the fraud dept. at Capital One or let it go. Question, why am I doing Capital One's job?

Francesca of Menlo Park , CA July 10, 2009

I called Capital one on 07/03/09 to cancel my credit card protection which they charge me each month. The Representative I spoke with assure me she had cancelled, yet when I called again on 07/14/09 to verify, it was nevr done. I asked to cancel and a ew representative said he needed to connct me with an account specialist. I was on hold for more than 15 minutes and finally hung up. i called again another representaive said he will need to again transfer me to an account speciallist. Again I held for 20 minutes. I called again for the 3rd time and told hem I was very upset that this simple transaction was causing me so much stress. I asked to speask with supervisor yet I was transffered again and held for another 10 minutes. Finanlly I called one last time really mad! Asked for a supervisor again, the representative transfered me and as I am writting this message I am still on hold. acording to the timer on my cell i've been on hold for 15 minutes and 47 seconds. Why cant I cancel this add on??? I dont need it why is it so hard? I need someone to help me this is unfair and hoe they cheat to steal money from customers like me. Now I am waisting my cell phone minutes and am super stressed out!

Josette of knoxville, TN July 9, 2009

I have been a customer with capitol one for 8 years with an interest rate of 7.9% in May they raised it to 17.99% the said I was notified by mail and could no longer opt out. I stated that the letter I recieved said the new rate would apply only to new purchases. They said no that's not true it's outstanding balances also and there is nothing they can do to lower my rate. it seems illegal is there anywhere I can go for assistance

Christine of Spotswood, NJ July 9, 2009

Logged onto Capital One to pay my bill and noticed that my interest payment shot up from around 18.00 to 30.00. Couldn't understand why so viewed previous statements and noticed that Capital One increased my interest rate from 8.9% to 17.90% without even notifying me. What the heck??? Contacted Capital one and spoke to three different people. The first didn't know squat. The second and third basically said the same thing I've read in the previous complaints. "Due to economic conditions," "a letter was sent out and it's not our fault you didn't get it. Contact your post office," and the usual, "sorry, there's nothing we can do." I think a class action lawsuit is in order and the settlement should be that Capital One has to reduce the interest rate on all account holders to a very low fixed rate for life (wishful thinking I know, but one can dream) or back to what they were before the decided to make change their terms without notification. Something has to be done. They shouldn’t be allowed to get away with this. This is a major rip off. Just my 2-1/2 cents worth.

Cindy of Thomasville, NC July 9, 2009

I applied for a Capital One Credit Card that was advertised on-line. 0% interest on balance transfers and purchases until May 1st 2010.Being the skeptic that I am, I called to verify that this information was correct. I was assured that the information is correct. I accepted their offer and transfered a balance from another card that I was paying 9.9% interest on. I asked for the customer service reps name and ID#, which is Lujan ID#ZVV948, so there would be no problem. The first bill I received, of course, had a finance charge listed.

I called and spoke with a "Specialist" who assured me that a mistake had been made and I would see a credit on my next statement. All is well and taken care of. Today I received my 2nd bill, which also had another finance charge and no credit was given.

So I called again and spoke with another "Specialist", Bethany ID#KST712. She informed me that I was told wrong when I applied for the card and there was nothing she can do. She did say she would give me a credit for the last 2 months finance charges, since "I" misunderstood. I did't misunderstand anything. I had an interest rate of 9.9 with my old card and switched to what they promised was 0% until May 1, 2010. Now I have an inerest rate of 13.9%.

Gracy of Houston, TX July 9, 2009

On May 5th, 2009 I received a statement from Capital One with a 45.00 member fee, (before this I found out my card was restricted, which I had no problem with)I called Capital One on June 16th, 2009 and spoke with a woman, I asked her why i was charged a member fee if my card was restricted and I could not even use it. She stated and i qoute her words "It will be credited back to your account, you will see this is your next billing period." She also stated if I closed my account, then I would need to pay it off within 90 days or the member fee will be charged back to my account. I agreed to close it because it was restricted anyways so I mind as well just pay it off and receive my 45.00 credit.

Well, it was better said than done. I checked my June statement and it did not show up, today (7/8/09) I checked July Statement and it did not show the 45.00 credit either. It did show however that the account will close when balance reaches 0. I called in and spoke with Chad (rep) and he stated that there will be no credit to the account, I requested a supervisor. He transferred me to Donny (ID # ULR072) and Donny stated they will not credit the account because I called in 30 days after the fee was assesed. I informed Donny that the lady assured me it will show on the account and she never stated anything about me having to call in within certain days. Donny stated " Im sorry if you THINK you heard that" I told Donny "No, I dont think, I KNOW" I asked him to pull the recording and he denied because according to him it's for internal purposes only. Finally, he agreed to credit my account for 10.00!! That was unacceptable. I said "OH NO" He said well then theres nothing i can do.

I told Donny if he couldnt credit my account then reopen it. He didnt want to. He stated he will speak with another supervisor to see what they can offer. He came back on the line and stated there was nothing they can do. I asked for the other supervisors name he supposedly spoke with and he said Jamie. I then asked for Jamies Id # and he said " I don't have that info because he is not around anymore" I told Donny "It's ok I can wait for you to get that info" and he said " No I cannot, I've given you my info and that should be enough. I told Donny that I don't think he should deny me that information. I then requested his supervisor and at first he tried to say "What for?" but after a few moments he put me on hold and never came back on the line, eventually I disconnected.
