Thomas of Baraboo, WI January 17, 2009
Thomas of Baraboo WI (01/17/09) I received a letter from First National Collection Bureau, Inc. on Jan. 17, 2009, stating that I owe a balance of 918.25 to Cross Country Bank/Applied Bank. A year ago I checked my credit reports and it stated that my address for this was in New York. I've never been or even lived in New York. Apparently has the same name, but has my social security number. When I tried to talk to a lady at First National Collection Bureau, she became very rude and hung up on me.
This situation is affecting my credit. Everytime I try to get this resolved nothing happens. I keep running into dead ends. I've contacted several agencies and no one can give me the whereabouts of the original contract; or even a phone number to contact Cross Country Bank. I feel that I've been a victim of identity theft. Jeff of Yankton, SD January 12, 2009
Jeff of Yankton SD (01/12/09) I sincereley believe that Cross Country Bank continually steps over the line legally to harrass consumers and ruin consumer`s credit. I had the unfortunate experience to readily accept the credit card they offered, totally unaware of the nightmares that consumers tell about this pathetic company. I recieved the card in 1997, and everything was fine until I went overseas to Greece. I was pickpocketed in Athens and the perpetrators charged my card upwards of 600.00. I called my brother from Greece, explained the problem, instructing him to call the bank to cancel the card because of theft.
I returned back to the States about two weeks later and was instructed BY Cross Country Bank to have a notary public sign an affadavit that I was not responsible for these charges because the card was stolen. I did as was told, all the while Cross Country Bank said that I was NOT responsible of the charges, especially since I reported the card stolen before the charges were incurred. I thought this was the end of it. Boy, was I WRONG!
It is 2009, and Cross Country Bank has harrassed me and my family for almost a decade. I have gotten threatening letters, phone calls at all hours, and other letters that said they would 'settle' the dispute for half the amount owed. owed? I didn`t incur these charges. What was the affadavit for? They KNEW all along that the card was stolen, yet they continue to harrass me TEN YEARS later over 600.00, and I`m not even responsible for these charges? It`s hard to believe, after reading TONS of horror stories similar to mine regarding Cross Country Bank. Not only did they harrass and threaten, they nearly ruined my credit rating. This company should be put out of business. It`s a SCAM.
Sandra of Lumberton, NJ January 11, 2009
Sandra of Lumberton NJ (01/11/09) April 29, 2008 I needed the services of a tow company, so I called Volvo on Call Plus. I had been enrolled for more than two years. I was informed by the person that answered the telephone I was not in their system. I needed to get to work, so I called my mechanic and he dispatched a tow truck to take my car to his shop. The diagnosis was a dead battery. Total cost to me 117.00 for towing and to re-charge the battery.
I did not follow up with Cross Country until November 2008 when my credit card was automatically billed 89.99 annual renewal fees. I immediately called Cross Country and requested cancellation of the charge and filed a written complaint to have the April 117.00 cost for towing and battery charge up reimbursed.
To my horror, On January 6, 2009, Cross country refunded me 45.00 the fee that my mechanic, as a courtesy, charged me his price for towing. I expected to be reimbursed the total 117.00 or at least the 89.99 annual fee for service that I paid in 2007.
