First USA Bank |

To put it mildly, First USA Bank is not a consumer crusader. It's notorious for its high interest rates, ever-multiplying fees and not-so-nice customer service. And not too long ago, First USA coughed up $1.3 million to settle a deceptive practices case brought by 28 states. Seems the bank had provided its customers names and account numbers to telemarketers, who then sold (or said they sold) various goods and services to the bank's long-suffering account holders. Besides all that, there are such tales as this ... Gary of Franklin, TN September 15, 2009 I experienced the same issue as many of the emails posted on your site about First USA doing a credit check on me without authorization. I received an alert from Experian that they did this and I am afraid it will affect my credit rating. It seems there are hundreds of people claiming this happened to them. Do I have any recourse to keep this from happening again? Is there a suit pending on First USA to keep them from doing this? R.Connolly of Plymouth Meeting, PA September 7, 2009 This company requested and received an inquiry from a credit reporting agency without permission. This is not a bank I have ever conducted business with Richard of Deerfield Beach, FL September 4, 2009 They ran an unauthorized credit report on my wife and me on Aug 1, 2009. From the other complaints, this seems to be their MO. Leslie of Melbourne, FL September 2, 2009 This bank pulled my credit without my permission. The address Equifax listed does not reflect a phone number and information does not have a listing for this bank. patricia of houston, TX August 31, 2009 I recieved an alert from Experian that a change had occurred on my credit report. When I looked, I saw FIrst USA BANK had run a credit check on August 27th. I have no Idea who this bank is therefore, have certainly not authorized a credit check. Please advise how I should proceed in ensuring no one opens an account in my name with this financial institution. impact to my credit score and possible fraud. Michael of Temecula, CA August 18, 2009 My credit card has 4,821.53 balance left on it. My paymets have been around 100 every month. Now my minimum payment is 241 - they say they are calculating it at 5% of balance instead of 2% as in the past. How are we supposed to manage our money these days? when a credit card company can change the rules on me after the fact and change it by 140%? Going from 100 a month to 240 is a huge difference. If all my credit cards do this to me, I will not be able to make all the payments. My Finance charge is 20.44 and minimum payment is 241.00 - makes no sense at all. How can I be forced into this? I did not agree these rates when I took out the loan, I would not have taken it if that were the case. So really how do they change my loan payments on me after the fact? The economy is hurting, people losing jobs, taking pay cuts, ect... and the credit card company makes it harder? its not like my payment increased by 5% or 10% this is 140% !! increase on a loan that was pre-negotiated. Judith of Loveland, OH August 5, 2009 Cancelled my card, increased my rates charged me late and overdraft fees that was erronous due to others errors in no sending per not only my checking acct proof but bank manager check it that it was never sent thru but blamed for damaged payment check which was not damaged when mailed and then made it look like it was late when requested a replacement check to be sent and I do so rapidly with apologizes for your inconvenience that was out of my control since it was not damaged at the time of mailing yet you neglected to send it thru my bank. You rather increased my rate largely, put fees that should have been on it and then proceeded since I have always paid you unknown reasons why you should truly have cause to cancel. Barry of New York, NY July 25, 2009 I had the First USA credit card, later I legally discharged all my credit card debt by bankrupcy. However, this First USA still send my file to collector. Now they still are bothering my life. This is 10 year ago matter. It is not fair. Please do not trust this credit card company. They do not follow laws. Lori of Warren, MI July 23, 2009 In 2003 I had a balance on my First USA Bank credit card for 513. After that time I filed chapter 13 reorganization and will late fees and interest, the balance exploded to 10,922.00. I have tried unsuccessfully to get an answer from First USA Bank. This has damaged my credit tremendously since it is a judgment / lien on my credit report. Gary of Deland, FL July 10, 2009 I received an email alert from my credit report company today advising that First USA Bank was requesting my credit history. I have never had any contact with First USA Bank and never applied for a loan or credit from them. It greatly concerns me that they are pursuing my personal credit history without my knowledge or authorization. Do you know who I can report this infraction to? Advertisement
