Home Depot, Monogram Credit Card Bank To Pay Connecticut $672,000
Home Depot, Lowe's, Monogram "Interest-Free" Suit
Class Action Filed

Jewel of Huntsville TX (9/4/03):
I have a Wal-Mart card with MCCBG and was always having to pay late fees because my statement arrived a few days before my payment due date. At times it would arrive TWO days before the payment was due. Later I accquired a J.C. Penny credit card and it to was issued by MCCBG. Well the same thing is happening with that card. My last statement arrived 08-31-03. I opened it up and the payment due date is 08-31-03.

Marcus of Sherman Oaks CA (8/15/03):
Taking forever to post my payment. Mailed on the 1st of Aug. 2003 and posted on Aug. 12, 2003. I am beginning to hate these people, and our elected representatives need to do more to protect us from gigantic corporate hustlers like these. They seemingly intentionally ruin peoples credit. They advertised for 12 mos. same as cash, only to approve people for 90 days SAC with deferred finance charges applying on the 91st day.

Damages: 35.00 late fee. Deferred interest penalties applied. Negative credit reporting. Subtracted the 35.00 from my already posted payment of 600.00 out of a total 3600.00 balance.

Susan of Carol Stream IL (8/11/03):
I made a payment via the phone on August 2nd, which was a Saturday and my due date. I just got the new statement from them and they didn't even post the payment, plus they added a late fee. They refuse to clear the late fee.

This has been a stressful day and having to deal with these rude people who won't admit they made a mistake is troubling. The economic damage is equal to a couple months worth of diapers for our 1 year old.

AR of Phillipsburg NJ (7/3/03):
This bank's billing cycle has bills being getting received on the day of or after the payment due date. They mail in such a way that no date stamp appears on the envelope. They must collecting billions in late payments and interest due to their creative billing practices. They do not care to resolve this issue.

Damage Resulting: Monthly late fees of $29/mo and additional interest charges for late remittance over the course of 2 years.

Karen of Sterling Heights, MI (4/19/01): They are not posting my payments in full in a timely manner, therefore they are charging me finance fees. They also put a balance on my credit report, which should have been zero. I always pay my balance in full.

Emotionally I was distraught, fighting them for 4 months about my balance lagging onto the next months billing period. It was also a negative mark on my credit report, which I value. I consider my credit report a reflection on my character and values. It did not result in denial of my application, due to the fact I have an excellent report. But just it being there caused me distress because it did not belong on it.

Cheryl of Washington Twp., NJ (4/9/01):
I sent a payment in to the bank before it was due, it has not been posted and I was told it takes them 7-10 days just to receive their mail and more time to post payments. I was under the impression that the pony express has retired. I feel they are doing this so that they can say that the payment is late and they can asses a late payment. When I called they said that this is my problem and I shoud send the payment in as soon as i get my statement.

If the check is sent in before the due date, they should be able to process checks in a prompt manner. I sent in 9 other payments at the same time I sent in theirs around 3-29-01 and all my payments were posted and cashed by or around 4-02-01. all but Monograms. The customer service rep was rude and unwilling to hear what I wanted to say. I would advise anyone NOT to use this credit card, I will be transferring this account to another card, even if the rate is higher, oh and by the way, they have increased my interest because they say my payment was late.

Lucille of Auburn, NY, writes:
I purchased appliances for a house which I got from my father in October of 1999. By January 2000 I was disabled and could not pay off my credit cards. I got a homeowner loan last spring and the lender paid off all the creditors. GECAF (Monogram) keeps charging interest and penalties accrued between the payoff amount and the billed amount which overlapped. All other creditors agreed to accept the payoff but these people keep sending me dunning notices demanding payment and each month they add another $29. I have written to them and to the president of the company and have never received an answer, just another bill.

Charles of Jacksonville, FL, writes:
They reviewed my credit file twice within 2 months without my permission and dropped my credit line from %5,000.to $1,450. I've always paid them on time and even paid them off once so i don't think it was fair for them to go into my credit file and decide to drop my credit line. I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and my Congressman. The damages -- stopped me from making vital home improvements and embarrassed me at the Home Depot counter.

Linda of Brewster, NY, writes:
My husband and I paid all of our creditors in full last July. Many had arranged to accept settlement offers. The WIZ/Monogram was one of those accounts that accepted our settlement offer. We paid them the agreed amount in the agreed time frame, however they keep sending us to collection agencies and attorneys for the balance. I'm tired of being abused in this manner.

They now are stating that we are responsible to pay the balance. I wrote on my check that "cashing of this check represents payment in full", but they still pursue me.

Linda needs to send a certified, return receipt requested, letter to Monogram, enclosing a copy of both sides of the check.
