Monogram - Wal-Mart |
||||
|
I have had a Wards credit card for 5 years or more and always kept in good standing. When Wards filed bankruptcy, Wal-Mart took over accounts to be handled by Monogram Credit Card Bank of GA. A letter dated March 12, 2001 was received by me stating "while some Wards accounts will be provided with additional utility, we are unable to extend this utility to your account due to technical impediments in our system. However, your Wards credit card may still be used for new purchases at Thrifty rent-a-car, Shop at Home catalog, and for signature products/services and insurance until further notice. I called the 800 number and spoke to "Noah" who informed me this meant Monogram Bank would not be issuing me a Wal-Mart card. I indicated to him that constituted a denial of credit to me and i was not given a valid reason, nor was I told the reporting agency so that I could review my credit history. During the conversation when I became agitated and was demanding a proper denial, he mentioned EQUIFAX and I requested a letter be sent to me with a proper credit denial. Unfortunately, I did not make a notation of the date but do know it has been close to 2 weeks since I called. I emailed my dissatisfaction to Wal-Mart and received a reply about a week ago, indicating the complaint had been forwared to the proper person. If Monogram Bank does not wish to extend credit to me, that is fine. All I am asking is that I be given a legal reason for the denial as pertains to the Federal Equal Credit Oppurtunity Act. I have friends that received a Wal-Mart credit card who have had late payments. How do I with an A#1 credit record with Wards get denied credit without the proper notice. Elizabeth of Port Charlotte, FL, writes (4/20/01):
This was rapidly follwed by a letter from Monogram Credit Card Bank of Georgia which says we can try and cancel the contract and receive a partial refund but that we will owe the difference. So now, Wal-Mart wants payment for something I never autorized or purchased by Wards, which is now bankrupt and it appears that Monogram Credit Card Bank of Georgia also wants payment. Cynthia of Tracy, CA, writes (1/14/01):
I have shopped in WalMart since the day it opened here. I love the store, as it has everything that I need, at affordable prices. They always provide me with excellent and courteous service. So when I applied for their credit card, I expected the same from the services from their designated company! Unfortunately, MCCBG is giving WalMart a bad name, where credit is concerned. I have had to tell friends not to apply for credit there, because of the way MCCBG handles their accounts. Not providing me with the facts of my account, has left me feeling that I am being cheated. Charging me $25.00 for "late fees", for payments that I know they received on time, has me furious, and exudes additional mistrust. I have even asked for the due date to be changed, and they had said they would do so. Not changing my due date, has really left me feeling that they are in the business to make it impossible for its customers to escape late penalties! All of this aggravation and mistrust has left me very upset. I am not a person who makes it a habit of lodging complaints against my creditors. In fact, this is the first time for me. So please take my complaint into serious evaluation, and hopefully I will sleep without worry once again. We have other creditors, but none that conduct themselves in what appears to be such a cut-throat manner. Linda of N. Kansas City, MO, (3/27/01):
Why was I not contacted by Monogram Bank to discuss my options to close out my Wards account before Walmart paid for the rights to roll over my balance? I will not make a payment that is charged to that Walmart Credit Card. If I have another credit card currently open with Monogram Bank as the bank, I will be more than happy to pay the balance on one of those cards. My balance is a mere $40.00, but I never asked for a Walmart card and will not make a transaction on a Walmart card. I have called many different numbers and there is no one who can resolve this matter. Any assistance would be appreciated. Linda needs to pay up. Wards' accounts receivable are an asset that were transferred to Wal-Mart. She can certainly decline to accept the Wal-Mart card but she is obligated to pay the $40. Ralph of Wellington, FL, writes (12/26/00):
The man was very assertive and "promised" me that I would get approved for a Wal-Mart card. So I sat down and filled out the application with the hopes of obtaining a Wal-Mart card and being able to establish some new credit to report on my record. Today, the first day after Christmas, I finally received a notice from Monogram Credit Card bank of Georgia saying that I was turned down for credit due to past credit obligations. I have tried contacting Monogram to no avail. They "flat out" lied to me with a straight and sincere face. |
