Wired Plastic

Byron of Atlanta writes (3/29/03):
A fancy debit card called Wired Plastic is claiming, through affiliate websites and emails, that it builds credit and reports to credit bureaus. It does not and cannot.

I'm just concerned about others who are trying to rebuild credit and pay the absurd fees associated with this card and then learn -- nothing reported to the bureaus.

Byron's right -- it's just a debit card which won't do a thing for anyone's credit. Better to save your money and avoid the fees, which may very well be substantial, as the folks below will tell you.

Howard of Independence MO (01/20/09)
Refused to refund my balance on their prepaid plastic card. I have emailed them and called them and they will not close my account without me paying them 15.00. I was never informed that I would be charged to close an account with them.

Balance on account 2.74.

On Dec 31,2008 I withdrew 500 from an ATM that was disfunctional. It charged me as if the money was disbursed. I had to write a dispute about was happened. They told me it would take 60 to 90 days fro the money to be placed back on my account. Itold them I have bills to pay but they did not care. I am still waiting for my account to be updated.

During this time, I had to pay 145 late fees to my landlord for rent. I could have used the late fees for other bills at home.

I put in a dispute for a fradulent charge in October and was never contacted about the resolution. I contacted wired plastic and they informed me that they refuse to reverse the charge due to the merchant having proof it's valid. I argued that it's impossible due to the merchant not having my signature. I requested a fax copy of what the merchant had sent them. I was told it would be faxed ASAP, never done. I called back and was told it would be done by 5, never done. I called back and was told it would be done by 8pm, not done. I called the very next day was told records show it was done. I explained if it was done I would not be calling. I again requested the merchant info along with proof that it was previously done. Still have not been received.

Caused financial hardship.

While on vacation in Augusta GA, my card number was stolen and used in Ohio at a vet office. Upon finding this out I was charged 200.00. I called Wired plastic to ask them what I needed to do to get that money refunded to my account. I was told that I needed after sending it by fax almost 2 months ago I have yet to hear anything from them. My phone calls are ignored. Was told that no one can help me other than the despute department that does NOT take phone calls.

The funds that were used were for my car insurance in which was canceled

I have read alot of bad reviews about this card, however I have had the card for over three years and have not had any kind of problems that have been mentioned. Although, there were 3 times when I would withdraw money from a Bank of America ATM and it would make a funny noise and give me a receipt, but no money. Of course, Bank of America is not able to help in this situation since the credit card is from a different company. But when this happened, the money would show up on my account the next morning all three times.

The company Wired Plastic may have screwed over people, but I'm sticking with them because of how good they are to me. And they never advertise to report to credit bureau. This is a good card to have if your on chexsystems and cannot get a bank account for direct deposit.
