Class Action Targets Classmates
Classmates Joins Netzero, Juno
NetZero, Juno Merge into United Online

Kathleen of Coronado, CA November 17, 2009

Company keeps charging my credit card, even though I have asked them to stop.

Barbara of Parma, OH November 16, 2009

I registered 2 yrs.ago then after 1 yr. I decided I no longer wanted it. I unscribed several times and requested on=line to opt out of it. They e-mailed me that I would no longer receive anything from classmates. I thought that was the end. I didn't hear from them by e=mail anymore but they have continued to charge my VISA acct. I tried calling them but the operator keeps saying there is an overload of calls and to contact them on-line. I still keep getting charged every three months for something I don't subscribe to anymore. How can they get away with this? I want a total refund.

I am a gold member. Could get on fine for a few weeks. Now want password. Don't know it. Have fill out form asking for name and e-mail to get new password. First they said not inough info??? Now they say will sen and do not send. Classmates is a joke. I have to contact them and can find no way without password--DO NOT want automatic renewal!!!

Gary of Chesapeake Beach, MD November 15, 2009

I signed up for Classmates.com Gold membership for one year at a cost of 39.00. Nearly a year later, I received notice of a pending charge to my debit card at Navy Federal Credit Union for 39.00 and when I investigated this charge I learned it was an automatic renewal for my classmates Gold membership. Thankfully (I thought) I caught this before my previous membership expired, went to the classmates website and canceled the automatic renewal. The website notified me that I should be sure I wanted to do this, as my membership would expire the next day if I canceled this renewal. Of course, I elected to cancel it.

Several days later, the pending charge went through at the bank, resulting in an overdraft to my account.

I contacted customer service, and was informed that it was Classmate's policy to never give a refund for membership. I could cancel my membership if I wanted to, but there would be no refund. In my opinion this is not a refund, but reversal of an unauthorized charge to my account. I notified classmates of this opinion, and also that I expected them to provide the 25 overdraft fee that they caused. After several e-mails, I was offered a pro-rated "refund" but no overdraft fee. Of course I responded that this was unsatisfactory, that I expected a full reversal of the unauthorized charges and the overdraft fee, or I would be contacting an attorney.

Lori of Port Charlotte, FL November 12, 2009

I did sign up for the gold membership not realizing that you did not get an email advizing you that your year was up. So, i had wanted to have my subscription cancelled and they said that they would get back to me. I told them that i could no longer afford to pay the 39.00 it costs. They just put in for payment to my bank acct. I asked them to refund it. I emailed 3 or 4 times this evening and have not gotten an answer. I think that they should give people a refund. They should have to give some kind of notice to people. As bad as things are in this world right now financially, they could be human and understand that people cannot afford this right now. I would love to have my refund back.

In September 2009 I received a charge to my Discover Card from Classmates.com. I thought I had cancelled the subscription last year. I called and found that I had cancelled my subscription but this was for my husbands account that has not been used in a year. They said that we had to cancel on line we tried but we could not access the area they told us too, the screen is blank. I called again and they refused to cancel the subscription, they said my husband had to call even though they were charging my credit card and I had his log in and password. I called my credit card company and complained and had the credit card company suspend the payment. When I got my credit card bill this month again there is the charge. Again I call and am told that my husband has to call. So my husband has to take times off of work to sit on hold and call, they said they couldn't do anything because they have to speak with me. Classmates.com knows good and well that we have not used the service in a year. I believe that they have automatically charged my credit card in the hopes that we would not notice and I wonder how many other people get scammed like this.

Bettie of Springfield, MA November 10, 2009

I wondered into classmate.com from facebook. I started to buy the service to look up friends. So I filled out all the information including my master card number. At the last moment I changed my mind. When I went back to my email I got one from classmate.com saying I was a gold status member. This number was on the site: (888) 239-0316 When I called them they said they knew nothing about it. But this is the telephone number that was there. I am a brain injured person. I can't afford what they offered. They said money would come out of my account every month.

Kelly of Roswell, NM November 9, 2009

Kept getting a pop up on the 7 day free trial, and like a dummy I decided to give it a shot. It said Classmates.com would send me an email notifying me when my trial period would expire, and give me the option to pay for Gold membership. I never got any such email, and started getting unauthorized charges in excess of 40 on my card! I tried to remove the classmates.com account, and no success. I looked all through the site for a contact method to talk to them about the unauthorized charge and never found any contact information. I have screen shots of the trial offer, my credit card charges, and all the mail server logs dating back to the first message to prove they never sent me an authorization email, and that I never agreed to such a charge.

I'm disputing the charge with the credit card company, and they are telling me they are getting a lot of these. They said they are attempting to contact the merchant account company responsible with no success, and that this is credit card fraud. They said for there to be a legitimate case for Classmates.com they MUST have contact information on their website for dispute resolution, and I see NONE. A quick search on Google for "classmates.com scam" and I see there are literally thousands of people in my same position. I'm thinking "shouldn't the cops be involved at this point?"

Barbara of Lake Worth, FL November 8, 2009

Classmates.com online membership does not allow the consumer (me) to cancel the gold membership. This is a hoax, I've advised my credit card company to deny charges - they did for one month, now the charges are back on. I deleted my credit card information online with Classmates.com, the online confirmation if this is in tact BUT they keep charging the card. THIS IS FRAUD.

I'm paying interest payments on my credit card for these monthly fees and since I carry a balance this is mounting. After reading the complaints on line from others scammed by Classmates.com, I will continue to contact my states attorney general's office and other agencies to help solve my financial unauthorized use of my credit card and to put these people out of business. They should be in jail.
