Charlie of Maineville OH (03/07/07)

I believe I paid about 200-300 dollars via credit card. The waiting began, until I was finally contacted with about 4 matches in about 3 month's time. This seemed reasonable to me. However, as the matches continued coming through the mail, there were several occasions where I would call the phone number provided, but would not get a response. I always followed up by calling the Matchmaker office, where they agreed to not count the non responsive matches against my contract. I made it clear in my initial interview that I wanted to avoid that situation with Matchmaker. After nearly a year, I did not receive the number of matches discussed when I first signed with Matchmaker. I called and left a message on the member's line to complain about the number of non-responsive matches I had received. My last message never got a response...and in fact, the matches stopped coming completely.

Clif Conklin of Marshall MI (02/05/06)
I went to the matchmaker international to find out more about their dating service. Although I was reluctant I decided to give it a try. The saleperson, Crissi, was very helpful and seemed to be willing to work with me to find compatible matches. She assured me that there were many compatible matches for a man like me. She furthermore told me that if I later decided to stop using the service that I could either 1-put it on hold and resume it at a later time, or 2-Sell the remaining matches to another member or a new incoming member. In any event she assured me that this is a painless process aimed at customer satisfaction.

After 12 matches it became apparent that none of the women I was 'matched" with were anything close to what I was looking for. Each time I complained on the return form in a "nice" manner. I  did not want to ruin the situation for them but wanted the service to know that it was not working for me. Three of the matches did not show for the date, 2 others kept me waiting for over 45 minutes, and at least 1 showed up  sick with a cold and told me that she only came out because she needed some dinner and was too sick to prepare it for herself. Needless to say that none were  even close to what was promised.

One lady told me that you  won't get a serious match until you have gone on at least 20 matches. When I asked for my money back I thought that Crissi would honor her offer and help me recoup most of the money I had spent. 25OO. When they refused and told me that I forfeited the balance of the matches and that they would not reimburse me any money. I decided to take them to small claims court. The Judge said that since I had nothing in writing that  he could not enforce any refund. I figure I am out approx. 2000 to a bogus dating service. Lesson to all who are reading this. Don't take the salesperson at her word, regardless of how pretty and sincere she seems to be.
