The Right One

Patricia of Duxbury, MA May 8, 2009

I contacted Right One in November 2008 and signed a contract for services to start as of January 2009 when my divorce went through. My husband was injured in IRAQ war and he had decided that he wanted the divorce and refused to come home. In December Right One was notified that my husbands injuries had multiplied and he would return back to Massachusetts to live with his family. I sent Right One the letter, which I received from Maryland Court indicating the divorce did was dismissed. I have received not utilized any services from Right One. I have spoken to A.M. Alessi and other individuals at Right One monthly for a credit and to stop proactive monthly billing of my American Express. A.M. Alessi informed me that she speaks with the Right One financial department and a full refund will be returned to me. To date to refund has been received. My home had to be sold, as Bruce no longer receives an income. I sold the home with over a 200,000 loss. Reserve soldiers even the house who were injured lose their military income and he is not eligible for retirement money until age 60. Disability pay although granted in 2008 can take 2-3 years to receive. Bruce can no longer work at the job he worked prior to being activated to IRAQ. I have also spoken with Jerry from American Express, operator number 44253, and American Express has placed a dispute on the inquiry. Anything you can do to obtain a refund for me is most appreciated. I am currently out 1687.76 and the amount is increasing monthly.

I saw an employee of the Right One post a very untrue story. It says she is from TX. There are no centers in TX. They do not pay the low wages she claims. I know several people who work for the company, as well as people that have used the service. There are no 15K fees. That is an outright lie. She or he was obviously a miserable person who didn't like the job. The people I know who worked for the service have had people become engaged, married and put their services on hold b/c they had success! 100's of people sign up every day and only the people who are miserable with dating, and not giving people a chance are the ones to compain. As for the people I know who have used the service. They didn't pay 10's of thousands, and not over 5K... thats complete crap. There are some people who have negative experiences, but thats why they need to contact the company and get help if they are not meeting Mr. or Miss. Right... The Right One has been around for well over 30 years. They know what they are doing. From what I've heard from employees, some people say all they want is a good looking, successful, person with a ton of money etc... well guess what... there are all types of people out there. They need a chance. The stories I've heard make it seem like people are very clueless on what love is. For every one bad experience, there are a 100 good ones! Just keep that in mind. No company out there is perfect and people need to remember that and give this company a fair chance. If you are not satisfied, then do something about it.

I am a former employee of The Right One They prey on single people. If one has ever had a background check done, how long does it take?? A thorough one could never be done in the 90minutes of your appointment or as they say a "tour of the facility" which in all actuality is a HIGH Pressure sales Pitch- I have seen some of the "potential clients" and I feel they mislead them to come in. They tell them to come in casual, then take a picture of them when they decide to give the service a try (make sure to bring your credit cards, checkbook, CASH (Yes they brag some diddly came in an paid over 9k in cash)for those who don't have an extra 4k upwards to 15k in the bank account or credit cards they can direct you to a great finance option (Bank of America or Wells Fargo). I took calls for this company for a couple of days and saw the err of their ways. If they fire an agent they will pay them minimum wage for the hours worked (I am not sure if this is even legal- One is promised a guarantee of 400 a week or 10 an hour; however, if they fire you they decide that the hours one worked thinking they would get 10 per hour is switched to 6.65 per hour (they were not happy with your performance, so why should they pay you the guarantee- Brian said this). This place is a sweat shop and I have never seen a company so greedy! They are making millions of dollars a year and to not supply the staff with the correct pay is monstrous. Is this even legal? They do not call members back- Members are irate when you call to pitch them our service because they are currently members who are not getting introductions (which could lead to a date). The lowest plans are 3795, 5795, 9795 & 14795 (yes 15K to introduce).

Greg of Austin, TX April 9, 2009

Much like several of the other complaints and experiences from other consumers of this service, I was suckered in by very very heavy sales pitch. The adviser was absolutely ruthless, even after I declined 3 times. After making a call to the business owner and striking up a deal for half price and some added benefits, I gave in and paid 1697.50 for 10 referrals, not including the cost of a background check. I met 2 referrals in person and neither of them were anything close to the criteria I had requested.

The referrals that they were sending me to choose from did not meet criteria either. This was after calling them to let them know that the referrals were not meeting my expectations. I gave up and had better luck with normal dating. One of the benefits that finally sold me on the membership was the re-sell option. I was assured that these memberships were in high demand and easily sold on ebay or other classifieds.

After months of listing the membership on ebay, craigslist, the local paper, and other circulations, even for a greatly reduced price, I did not have one single person interested in buying it. This service has proved to be a complete scam and I'd be happy if I even got half of the money I spent on it back. Loss of over 1000

Joe of Alpine, CA April 6, 2009

This is an addition to the previous complaint. My request to reverse chartges was denied and I was told that I would be given a 1000.00 refund. Before I was given a 500.00 refund, I had to sign a statement that I would not give them any bad press. I refused to sign the statement. Before you sign a contract with this company. BE CAREFUL!! BE VERRY CAREFUL!

Betsy of Carrollton, TX April 3, 2009

Seriously misrepresented the service they provide. High pressure sales tactics to sign-up and then even higher pressure to upgrade your service level. They gave me a pitch about how highly matchable I am and that they have hundreds of potential matches for me. Some of the referrals they called to give me did not meet any of the criteria I had given them. Referrals I approved never returned my phone calls, which makes me think that they were phony. From what I've read on the internet, this service has a bad reputation across the country. I think a class-action lawsuit may be in order. Come on attorneys, do we have a case, or are we just screwed?

Basically I just [gave] away over 4200 to go on one date. One down, 32 more dates to go, and since the service isn't giving me any referrals, I doubt I'll get another date. So much for their money back guarantee, if you don't find someone long term by the time you get to the last introduction, you get your money back. I wonder if anyone has ever gotten close to getting all of their introductions.

Marta of Irving, TX March 26, 2009

I joined in 2006 and have never receieved a single referral but they deduct my payment like clock-work. I paid over 2000.00 dollars. I am a successful government employee who doesn't have time for the bar scene and would like to meet a special someone, not that difficult...

I should be saving my 75.00 for my retirement. I did better at dating on my own.

Yueyan of Irwin, PA March 18, 2009

The Right One, a dating service, is not doing the business as they said. I signed up for their service on Feb 10, 2007, at 3795 for 10 referrals. It was a lengthy meeting persuading me to sign the contract and pay the money at the same day. I was not able to leave. In the meeting, Jenna told me that these referrals were matching with me based on the pages of questions I filled (3 hours work on the questionnaire). They should be most compatible to me from their large data base?

In the past 2 years, I have received only 3 referrals, I was able to meet two of them, one time with each. But they were not close to my criteria at all. One seemed to be busy with all other matches The Right One scheduled for him. No referrals in whole year of 2008.

I have called and sent in emails. The last phone I made was in early Sept 2008, talked to Alison. She told me that The Right One was under new management and she would start me from 0 referral. However, I heard nothing from them. I am very disappointed for their services. It is definitely not what they promised. They make contracts with clients under a false impression. They demanded thousands of dollars from me and are negligent in providing the service I paid for. I want to know how to get my money back and how to prevent more people being scammed.

I filed a complaint to BBB on Nov. 13, 2008.

Deb of La Mesa, CA March 12, 2009

I joined The Right one in december last year and have no complaints at all. In fact, I had a blast at my initial interview with Sherri and everyone there seems to genuinely care. I have had three great dates and one not so great but I was explained about the feedback system, it can only get better if we tell them everything and return the feedback on time.

On the one referral I was sent, the guy never returned my calls so I phoned Mary and she did some research. She called back later that day and said she spoke with his sister, he was actually in the hospital. That explained alot! All and all, I am happy so far and have met some great people!

Barbara of Austin, TX March 11, 2009

I ran across this list of complaints while looking for The Right One's toll-free number. Guess why? Once again, the great guy they referred to me is a flake and a half. I joined in 2007, have had about 10 referrals and only met 2 of them in person. The two I met were nice guys but were not at all in line with my criteria. The others were just strange. Two made plans with me then didn't show up. One of those (supposedly a successful engineer) didn't have voice mail (!) at home or have a cell phone. A couple of them sounded so drunk I could barely understand them. At any rate, the 5,000 active men we have in the Austin area - at least 1,000 in your age range seem to have disappeared! BUYER BEWARE!
