Michael of Bridgman, MI May 8, 2009 I have been receiving letters and phone calls from this man acusing my daughter of aa hit and run accident in Chicago when the car was here in Michigan and had been for at least 2 weeks. The incident happened 11-21-2008 the car was parked in the garage in Bridgman, MI and had been for at least 2 days the car has NO DAMAGE. He is acucssing me of not having insurance when my company has contacted their client American Family Ins. and they provided no documentation until this AFNI guy called and started trying to intimidate me with threats. He has very little Information. This whole matter does not call for this kind of reaction it is being handled by insurance companys his attemps to " scare" me is childish at best with name calling and attitude. Richard of PENSACOLA, FL May 1, 2009 I received a collection notice from them regarding a T-Mobile account. Afni wanted my personal information to talk to me. I called T-Mobile and found out that the debt was from a company that T-Mobile purchased. The debt is 6 years old and T-Mobile had no other information. That meant I had to go back through Afni to dispute the claim and now they have the last 4 digits of my social and my date of birth and drivers license number. I never had an acount with anyone other than AT&T. Now Afni has enough information on me to legitize a claim that never occured. That should be illegal. Janine Huber of Statesville, NC May 1, 2009 Received a collection letter in May 2005 for a Cingular Account I'm never owned. Provided proof that I had never lived at the address AFNI provided and that the account was not mine. AFNI said they would not report this to any credit agency. Today my credit report was pulled and the collection in on my report. I called AFNI two time today and both reps told me they had never reported this it was in their files. I was told to get a copy of the report and send to them which I'm doing. I am very concerned this co. has lied to me about reporting an error on their part in the 1st place. I do not know at this point if AFNI is going to correct their area or if I must get legal help to clear their error. Cynthia of Lawrenceville, GA April 21, 2009 Cynthia of Lawrenceville GA (04/21/09) I had sent AFNI, Inc. a debt validation letter, per the Fair Credit Reporting act. I gave them 30 days to respond. No response. I gave them one more good faith letter, this was sent in January of 2009. AFNI, Inc. responded this time around, though the documents they provided were a collection bill to pay along with a bill that appeared to be typed by an employee of AFNI, Inc. as it certainly did not look to be legit. Further more, AFNI,Inc. failed to provide me with proof showing they owed the debt, show me how much they paid for the debt, prove the debt was mine, prove to me that they were licensed to collect in the State of Georgia and other requests per the Fair Credit Reporting Act for debt validation. Since they had failed to provide me with any proof within 30 days, AFNI,Inc. is supposed to stop collecting and also they are supposed to remove the debt from the consumer credit report. Also, the name they had listed, was a name I had never used before. They claim this to have been validated per the last 4 digits of my Social Security Number. However, the this is not true and certainly does not match. They also listed me at an address which I had never lived at. In addition, AFNI,Inc. was obligated to inform me within 30 days before placing the negative account on my credit report, which they did not. I had found out about this account after checking my consumer credit report. Further more, I had done my research on AFNI, Inc., as I had question AFNI,Inc. after hearing so many horror stories of collection agencies fraudulently collecting from the wrong people and not following the Fair Credit Reporting Act and rules. I have since been in contact with both the Attorney General in Illinois as well as in Minnesota. The Attorney General in Minnesota has sued AFNI, Inc. and is currently suing AFNI, Inc. for other complaints of false collections she has received by consumers. Identity theft is at a high and these days people are becoming victims of identity theft without knowing. As for their statement that the name, address and social security number had been verified, the last time I checked, if a name did not match the full name associated with a social security number, that would be an indication of fraud and someone trying to access another persons personal information.
