US Postal Service

Consumers have a lot of problems with USPS, as the complaints in this section attest.  What's perhaps most unfortunate about this is the hostility displayed by too many postal employees who could care less whether their efforts to serve taxpayers are successful.

Postal Service May Seek Service Cut
Movie Fans Suspect Foul Play at the Post Office

By the way, many consumers routinely leave their outgoing mail in the lobbies of apartment buildings. Not a good idea, as Christopher of Seattle now knows.

Then there's the question of whether the Postal Service is meeting the letter and spirit of the Americans With Disabilities Act. Oh, and some of those postal workers don't drive too well either.

A few of the more recent complaints ...

Xuemei of San Diego, CA October 1, 2007

Xuemei of San Diego CA (10/01/07)
The United States Post Office lost my very importment EAD card (Employment Authorization) letter! It cost me almost 200 dollars and took three months for applying for the EAD card. Without the card, I can't work legally. The USCIS officer said they sent the card on July 23, but until now I didn't receive anything! The officer said USCIS will not re-send me another EAD card.  If I need the EAD card, I have to apply again--which means 350 dollars and another three-month waiting. I went to the post office and asked about my EAD card mail.  The clerk said they were not responsible for the lost mail because USCIS sent it as a regular mail. This is not the first time USPS lost my mail.  They lost my blockbuster DVD also.

USPS lost my EAD card, which cost me 186.15 and three-month waitting for applying. And its seems that I have to apply for it again, which means 350 and another three-month waiting. And if I get the EAD card in time, I can work legally, and earn at least 5000 every month, and three month's work lost is 15000!

Mary of Apple Valley, MN October 1, 2007

Mary of Apple Valley MN (10/01/07)
I had five letters in my locked box for mailing.  The letter carrier failed to take them and instead left mail delivery on 29 Sep. 2007 right on top of them.

I had to drive 3.5 mi. to the Apple Valley post office outside stamped box to send the letters

Carol of Barberton, OH September 25, 2007

Carol of Barberton, OH:
i have been calling the US post office in Barberton, Ohio for TEN YEARS.  i am the only person at this address and have been the only person.   However, I receive mail for people i have never heard of; the list goes on and on. i just keep receiving their mail, and i even have a sign on the mailbox with my name only.  i guess it's either ignored or they just want to dump off this mail. Everytime i talk to someone at the Barberton Post Office i am assured that it wont' happen again.   Well for TEN YEARS it just keeps happening. i even asked if i got a post office box if the mail for others would stop and was told "No."   What do i need to do to stop this mail?  I am permanently disabled and not able to chase the mailman down every day with all this other mail.

Mr of Corona, NY March 31, 2007

Michael of Corona NY (03/31/07)

I had my roomate attempt to pick up parcels, as I was unable. My roommate then called from the post office saying they were refusing to give him my parcels. She claimed that she needed MY ID. I then asked him to get the local number, so I could call and speak with the postmaster to clear the matter up quickly. She refused to give that information. When I got there, several people were inside being served. When they saw me they said they were closed! I said, no, I’m with him, I’m here to get my parcels. They again said they were closed, even though they were serving other people who had come in after me! I said my roommate was here for an hour, & I’m bringing in the ID that is needed. They refused.

Alfy of Mechanicsburg, PA December 28, 2006

Alfy of Mechanicsburg PA (12/28/06)
On December 12, 2006 we sent a Christmas package to our son in Boynton Beach, Fla via USPS. It is now December 27, 2006 and the Christmas package has not been received by our son. What a Christmas he has had!!! You can rest assured we will no longer use the US Postal Service for any mailings. Think UPS or Fed X
