Postal Service May Seek Service Cut
Movie Fans Suspect Foul Play at the Post Office

Cristian of Wilmington, DE October 6, 2009

The USPS routinely returns my mail as undeliverable, despite the fact that I have lived at this address for over 11 years. I have notified the local postal station about this issue several times, and each time have been told by the local station that my mail will be delivered in future; however, my mail continues to be returned to senders as undeliverable.

I have lost my healthcare coverage, and nearly lost my eligibility for state aid programs for which I am eligible because paperwork from these senders has been returned to sender as undeliverable. I have also had health-related stress issues due to this problem, and have had to spend numerous hours on the telephone trying to rectify the issue, unsuccessfully.

Pedro of Orlando, FL October 5, 2009

The USPS office (mailman and his supervisor Pier Hall) said they won't deliver our mail, even with a brand new mail box next to our door. We just moved in three days ago. The post man told me I could put the mailbox in but that in 7 months everyone in the neighborhood was going to be asked to convert to curbside mailboxes (expensive conversion to say the least!) so he said I should just convert now. I replied that we would convert when everyone else does. Now I am being told by the post man, and his supervisor Pier Hall, that they won't deliver our mail unless we convert to curbside, which would make me the only resident in my street and neighborhood with one. I feel singled out and discriminated. The mailman walks by my door every day and doesn't deliver my mail, yet he delivers to other houses with the same mailbox system as mine. I have not received any formal letter from any governmental institution about this 'mandated' conversion, nor has any of the residents in my subdivision. I don't see how they can refuse to deliver my mail to a perfectly good (and brand new) mail box next to my front door. I need help as my wife and I need to receive our mail periodically (like any other American citizen). We are being forced to go pick it up at the USPS office which is a huge inconvenience and a lack of respect for people's time. Again I feel highly discriminated and singled out.

Sean of Crown Point, IN October 5, 2009

On September 14th, 2009, I mailed two large packages from the US post office in Talkeetna, AK to my home in Crown Point, IN. One package was a piece of luggage filled with personal items that I insured for 200, and the other package was a 32-inch LCD flat-screen Sony TV that I insured for 500. I used the TV's original box to ship since it was a perfect fit, and simply wrote the mailing address on the side of the box. The woman at the post office said that writing it their was fine. I paid for everything and they gave me my receipt, my tracking #, and a receipt for the insurance, which I put into my wallet. On September 17, my wallet was stolen from my room so I no longer had any of my receipts of information regarding the packages. On September 19th I flew out of Alaska and stayed in Oregon for a week. I arrived in Indiana at home on September 26th and my piece of luggage that I shipped was waiting for me in my room, but the TV had not arrived yet. I shipped both items by priority, so the post office told me that it would arrive within 14 business days. Today is October 5th, which will have made it 21 business days since I shipped the package, and I still have not received the TV.

Now I know that it has only been one week over the estimated delivery time and I may be speaking too soon, but I also find it odd that one package arrived within the 2 week period of estimated delivery time and the other package is MIA. I have called my local post office and the post office in Talkeetna, AK and they both have told me that since I do not have any receipts or the tracking #, they cannot help me in any way whatsoever. So basically what they are telling me is that it is 2009 and they do not store anybody's information into a computer system for instances such as this? What do they use, post-its? When somebody asks me for the time I do not look up at the sun and make a guess. I look at my watch or my phone and tell them the exact time. It's like buying a new computer and installing Windows 95. We're not in the industrial revolution. Businesses need to update their equipment to keep their customers happy and at ease. I find it extremely irresponsible and unprofessional for a national business to not keep vital customer information in case something goes awry. I have also been reading a lot of other complaints from many other people who are in a similar, if not the same, situation as I.

It has also come to my attention that their is a place in Atlanta, GA called the Atlanta Recovery Center where, somehow, people get a hold of "lost" and "recovered" merchandise (most likely things in their original, purchased packages such as my TV) and auction them off monthly. Monthly?! How many packages does the USPS lose every month? Apparently enough to hold convenient monthly auctions. The box that my TV was in looks brand new, and it also has a giant picture of the TV on one side of the box (this is the only thing that I blame myself for). I am sure that the box looked very enticing, but so do a lot of packages that are sent through the mail. Needless to say, I am never shipping anything through USPS ever again due to their lack of interest in customer needs and satisfaction, and the fact that nobody who I have spoken with has offered any sort of help whatsoever. It is as if the company is being run by Alzheimer's victims. I feel like Dog the bounty hunter can help me more than this capricious business called USPS.

Sean of Farmville, VA September 30, 2009

First off, I was directed to contact Consumer Affairs by a USPS representative at their 1-800- customer service number regarding this matter. For a little over four months now, my wife and I are not receiving the bulk of our mail at our residence. We moved into the newly constructed home in June '08. For approximately one year we had no problems receiving all of our mail at our residence. At some point during May/June of '09 however, we started noticing our quantity of mail diminishing. The pieces of mail that we were receiving was addressed to either my name or my wife's name, but the street address was wrong.

For four months now, somehow our address is showing in the USPS' records/database. So whenever we get a bill or magazine (if we even get it) it arrives with the wrong street address on it. Again this started happening in May or June of this year. I have talked to at least five different USPS employees at our local post office several times including the Postmaster and one of his Supervisors. Each time I get the exact same answer: That they will look into it and fix the issue.

Well guess what, our address is still wrong in their system. That is the address we initially had no problems getting our mail at when we first moved into our home. Our neighbors are having zero issues getting all of their mail. I have tried pleading with our local post office to fix this problem and they have not. We feel like we are getting the run around. We have every right to be entitled to receive our mail at our home and should not be forced into renting a post office box as suggested by a postal employee during one of my trips to try to get this problem resolved. That is not acceptable. We don't know what else to do...Please help!

Timothy of Torrance, CA September 29, 2009

I month ago a new carrier shows up on the block at 4:pm in the afternoon, our mail had always got there around noon. I thought there was no mail for the day and had my dog in the front yard. When I noticed this carrier I put the dog away, end of story right...WRONG. I have been the target of hers ever since, even though the dog has not been seen by her in over three weeks. She continually skips my deliver completly at random seeming to operate at her own judgement. Deciding weather or not I will get my mail seems I am now a target.

I have gone to speak with her supervisor last week and wound up speaking to the SUPERVISOR OF CUSTOMER SERVICE Mrs R., who apparently is not skilled to handle this situation. She was to inform the carriers supervisor and no one ever called me back. No mail again It is now two days I have to go back to the USPS to complain again anf guess who Mrs R. who again tells me the same thing with the same result....nothing! It has been 5 days since I got my mail and there has been NO letter or note explaining anything.

So what am I to do she the carrier is new to the neighborhood and I guess she can do what she feels, because her surpervisory staff is not interested in fixing this meanwhile I am NOT GETTING MY MAIL for no reason. If she feels there is an issue with my dog, she is WRONG as she seen him once I fixed that situation, yet she feels she can continue to frustrate people.

Trinh of Lanham, MD September 28, 2009

I sent a box to my country, Vietnam at the Post Office located in Brookland station, Washington DC, District of Columbia on Sep 11, 09 by priority mail. However, upto now my family has not recieved the box I sent. It has already nearly 3 weeks. I would like to know where is my product now, and which company responds to transpost my product. I adhere the information which I got from track and confirm, It was said that it departed for Vietnam from Sep 15, so my question is has it still on the way? or it has lost? or what? The last time I sent the same box, but just only 4 days after my family received it already, not not this time.

ohio of Troy, OH September 28, 2009

the post office is not picking up our mail if we do not receive mail. i called Friday (9/25/09) and told them our mail had not been picked up. They told me the girl had forgot to pick it up. So I needed to take it to the PO before 5:00 pm. Monday (9/28/09) I again called the PO our mail was not picked up. I was told if the postman does not have mail to deliver they will not pick up. As a business we need our mail picked up. How can you stop service?

ross of long beach, CA September 28, 2009

after being told by your office that mail delevery would resume ...it hasnt.... postal carrier has a personal issue with either myself or my neighbor...and doesnt want to do his job, claims my neighbors dog is loose all the time {false}. says its unsafe for him to deliver mail {false}. anytime this person is on vacation or has a day off i get a weeks worth of mail... so far iv had 2 pay checks turn up missing... never returend to sender so???

comsumer affairs has been working with me for over a year on this matter and still no regular mail service? if i cant trust the consumer affairs dept to help me, who can help me? from the southern california office of consumer affairs Denise has helped alot..but i got sent to cheryl who said all was fixed ...and still no mail service.

now she's telling me its the postal carriers option that if he see's a dog he feels threatend by he dont have to deliver the mail ... i understand the concept.. but if the dog in on a leash being held by the owner and all this is around the corner from my house...how does this affect my mail delevery? well in my issue..it does not get delivered. so now the postal office does not answer their phone...the post master general doesnt have a number ..gotta send mail..lol and consumer affairs dept seems to be dropping the ball... i guess my last option is to find a lawyer that will take on both.
