Smart Certify

Cynthia of Cedar Rapids IA (11/8/04):
Smart Certify charged me for a course I did not order and I have an MBNA charge for $2,000 plus interest. I am being threatnened with a lawsuit. This is destroying my credit rating and can affect my chances of getting a job. I never ordered the course and was recuperating from major surgery at the time I supposedly ordered it.

I tried to return the course to no avail.

Nolan of New York NY (7/29/03):
I was called by Steve Crosby stating that I applied for some information over the internet. He told me that they had a special on some certification programs. He said that I can study their online programs for almost any kind of certification for two years. He also informed that this program usually goes for $10,000 but he will give it to me for $3,500 if I accepted on the spot (over the phone agreement, I had no choice but to accept or not).

He also told me that I would not have to pay a cent until the two years were up. Another catch was if I take a test in three months and fail twice, I wouldn't have to owe any money at all. It's been six months and I haven't taken one test (which I was suppose to take on my own). They started to bill me already and said that my payments are supposed to be due after six months. They also started to charge me interest when I first started with this program.

Then they sent me a paper to sign so they can waive that interest that was building up while I was taking the course. I signed it and they were still sending interest payments.

Robin of Los Gatos (3/9/04):
My first contact with Latisha was on 2-26-03. A request was made for an RMA (return merchandise authorization)number. She informed me this would take 24-48 hours to receive and review the original sales call and she would contact me after reviewing it. I have heard no reply, Left voice messages on two different occasions and as of (3-9-03) I have heard no reply.

The software package sold to me on the phone is no use to me or my accounting background. All I want to do is return the CD's, booklets, etc. Financing this purchase was approved and delayed billing will begin in 06-03. I am unemployed at this time, and simply cannot afford to waste the time or money. A full explanation of the courses chosen for me by the sales person Sondra Smith was incorrectly described.

Tian of Honolulu (1/25/03):
Back in 2001, somebody from SmartCertify Direct called me to offer me a Microsoft certification course because I had visited their web site at that time. I hesitated because I didn't want to spend that much money. Then somebody else, probably the manager, called later that they could give me a discount and I could pay them in several installments. I still hesitated. Then she said they can give me 30 days to try it and if I am not satisfied with the product, I can return it within 30 days. Then we settled down so I bought the course.

I tried for several days and decided to return it. Then I called them to give me an authorization number so I can return it. They refused to give me the number because they said they don't give product satisfaction guarantee. But they called the first time, they didn't mention what type of guarantee they give and they just said I can try the product for 30 days. Then I called them, but I had a hard time to talk to a live person. So I sent them emails, but they still refused to give me the authorization number. I decided to return the product anyway, but I got it back.

After awhile, my credit card company started charging me. So I had to pay my credit card company. The total amount is $486.
