It's hard to miss the Video Professor if you watch much cable TV. CEO John W. Scherer is everywhere -- promising to make you a computer whiz in no time ... and with no obligation!

But according to our readers, it doesn't always work out that way.

dai of bellevue, WA September 30, 2009

Nothing happened. After reading all the complaints, I decided not even to try their promotional promises. 189 instead of just shipping...WOW

Samuel of Plaistow, NH September 30, 2009

This company uses bait-and-switch tactics. I only wanted the "free" lesson. But got the entire lesson then charged 189.95! They also did not enclose a copy of the order within the packaged product. That should have been a red flag for me. I received an RMA and will be shipping it. But, after reading many complaints about people doing the same thing and waiting months yet still no refund, I don't expect this company to refund me. It's time they be taught a lesson themselves and shut down!

Thomas of Elgin, IL September 28, 2009

I purchased the Video Professor Photoshop Product online expecting to pay only 6.95 for S/H as advertised. My debit card was billed for 189.49. To make matters worse, I never even received the product in the mail.

Richard of Deer Park, TX September 27, 2009

On July 14, 2009 I called in an order to purchase video professor's html programming software. The ad said nothing of having a 189.95 charged to my bank account. I returned the product in the prescribed time and, after contacting video professor four times and being promised a full refund each time, I have no other option but to use other means to regain my losses.

Jesse of Norwalk, CT September 25, 2009

I agreed to a trial offer for Video Professor for an EXCEL program that I was interested in sampling. I paid shipping and handling to receive the product. After receiving the product, I found it was not what I wanted. I called then returned the product to Video Professor. Several weeks later I learn that my account had been charged 189.50.

When I called Video Professor customer service, I was treated condescendingly and when I asked to speak with a manager/supervisor, I was told there were none on the floor and that I needed to fill out some form which would be considered by a review board before I was to receive a full refund.

I then called my financial card company through who this transaction was facilitated and we had a nice little 3 way chat with yet another argumentative and unhelpful service rep. Asking again to speak with a supervisor, I finally managed to get one on the phone and was told pretty much the same thing. I had to fill out a form that they would send which had to be completed then reviewed by them. I just want my money back and want nothing to do with this company.

As a result of all this, my bank account had been debited 189.50 which created an overdraft on the account for which I am being charged a 35.00 overdraft fee. This NEVER should have happened because I sent the product back, they say it was never received, and when I looked this company up on consumer affairs, I learned that I am one of a long list of consumers who have had a very similar, unfulfilling experience with this company. Live and learn.

Gary of Downers Grove, IL September 15, 2009

Returned product by registered mail, & CS rep confirmed receiving product 7/27. I was told a refund will take up to 30 business days. Called 8/24 still no refund, called 9/1 still no refund, called 9/15, (which is 35 business days),still no refund. There solution, to expedite the paper work processing, which entails FAXING paperwork, & adding an additional 10-15 business days before I get my refund.

Gary of Norco, CA September 14, 2009

Ad said pay shipping only for cd's. Charged for 189.95 on bank accout for video professor purchase and 3.69 for shipping.

Timothy of Los Gatos, CA September 11, 2009

Saw a commercial add he had...offering a free cd, that shows you how to sell stuff on e-bay. Called the number-They refered me to there web site. I attempted to put my credit card number in each time they claim it did,nt take. I became frustrated and gave up. Then i started noticing withdraws from my account. The bank gave me a transaction print-out.The fraud unit told me to google the phone numbers on the transaction and find out whats going on.Well in this process...i was informed it was threw video professor they recieved my in in a automatic sign up for training. I lost a couple hundred dollars i did,nt at the start of school with 3-school age children.I had to change my bank cause Chase said i was a liability. All as a result of video professor.I got my evidence and would love to go to court to stop him and try to recover my loses. The Bank manager said i was not the only one this has happened to thru video proffsor. If enough people go to court against him he won't be so quick to sue and win. I had limited transactions going thru my account.

Stephanie of Apple Valley, CA September 11, 2009

In July,2009, I ordered a "free" video lesson from Video Professor and was just supposed to pay shipping and handling of 3.69 which came out of my bank account on July 27. On August 11, there was a debit from my bank account in the amount of 189.95, a further 3.69 on August 18, another 189.95 on September 1 and a further 3.69 on September 9. I called Video Professor on September 10 and was told that items were sent automatically and if not returned within 10 days I would be charged for them. Due to illness I had been unable to get to the post office to pick up my mail

At no time did I authorize them to send further items.

At first I was informed that there was nothing they could do about, then I was told they would only refund 79.00 nd finally after much argument was finally told that they would refund all my money. A form was supposed to be e-mailed to me for me to sign in order to get the money back but I have not yet received it. I am surprised that this company is allowed to get away with this - I have checked on the internet (which, obviously, I should have done before I tried purchasing from them) and there are numerous complaints about them.

Kent of Asheville, NC September 10, 2009

My son ordered a disk for 10 on understanding Vista. A month later I was billed for 189.50. I called the toll-free number to arrange return of the unopened material, which I promptly did per their instructions. They received it July 27 and promised a prompt refund withing 20 business days. When the refund didn't appear on my bank statement, I called again only to hear that it had been approved, but not sent and the refund would be expidited. After another 2 weeks, I called again to find it will be another 20 business days before my refund is processed. This is no way to run a business!

Had this been handled promptly, I might have considered other products or future purchases from Video Professor, but after this nightmare of an experience that won't happen. I wouldn't even recommend them to my ex-wife!
