Rob of Huntersville NC (03/04/09) I had no idea Blockbuster was charging late fees again. I had two movies that were 4 days late and I see a charge for 53.60 to my checkcard from the store I rented from. 4 DAYS??
Needless to say, Blockbuster will never get another dime from me and I am spreading the word. Can't wait until they start shutting stores down...they deserve it. Netflix here I come!
Casey of Phenix City, AL March 3, 2009
Casey of Phenix City AL (03/03/09) was late returning a movie the first time. Usually I pay when i rent the next movie. The first time i did not know that they took the amount the movie cost out of my checkin account. My account was overdrawn and I didnt understand why. So I paid the fee which was 44.00 to my bank until I got my statement. Then a couple weeks later I was checkin my transactions and i noticed that they did it again. So I called them and asked why are they taking money out of my account without telling me.
They said they had the right to because I was late returning my movies. I never gave them my account number, they got my account number from me using my card to rent movies. I have been on the rewards program which means I pay them every year an amount to get free rentals and to only pay a restocking fee if i am late.
I am the type of person who never lets my account get overdrawn and now I GOT THIS ONE ON MY BANK RECORD
Allison of Tampa, FL February 24, 2009
Allison of Tampa FL (02/24/09) two weeks ago I rented a few movies. I was a couple of days late returning them. Ever since they brought back late fees, if I have any, I pay them the next time I go to blockbuster since I am a frequent customer. I am a college student and I had midterms this last week and so I have not rented movies since I returned them late a couple of weeks ago.
Today I got a phone call from a collection agency letting me know that my credit is on the line if I don't pay the 6 dollars! Blockbuster never called, wrote, or sent an e-mail. They just sent it straight to a collections agency. How tacky. I am going to pay the 6 dollars but it is the last dollar they will ever get from me. I got a Netflix account and I am sticking to that. Ridiculous that they felt they needed to strong arm 6 bucks out of me after only 2 weeks.
Scott of Wallingford, CT February 23, 2009
Scott of Wallingford CT (02/23/09) I go into Blockbuster all the time. I rented a movie and two games on my most recent visit, they were returned a day or two late. I have not rented from the store in about two weeks or more as I was laid off and did not have the money. Normally if I am late and there is any fees I will pay the next time I rent or I am sent a card from Blockbuster telling me I have a fee or a movie/game was late. Three weeks went by and I received a notice from collection agency. Where is the telephone call speaking to me or the card advising of my outstanding debt? Blockbuster paid the collection agency more than 12.83 to send me that letter, was it worth it? No wonder the economy is the way it is today from businesses like Blockbuster Video.
No damage resulted but it would have been nice to receive a telephone call,a message left on my phone or even a card in the mail to notify me of this rather that receive a notice from a collection agency had I not caught the letter this would have gone on my credit. Imagine for a lousy 12.83. I now go to Hollywood Video, so Blockbuster suffered yet another lost customer.
Paula of Lake Mary, FL February 21, 2009
Paula of Lake Mary FL (02/21/09) I received a Statement advising me I had an account balance of 4.24. Upon calling the Blockbuster location, I learned the amount due was the result of late fess for 2 movies I rented over a month ago. I'm going to pay the statement, but will no longer do business with this retailer. I, like most people, was unaware they had started imposing late fees again. I'm sure this is a money-maker for them, but will eventually be the customer-service issue that will put them out of business.
